Chapter 251 Olivia's Daughter.
After parting ways with Alan, Winnie got into her car and immediately opened a text message, hoping for Olivia to provide her current address. But Olivia hesitated, leaving Winnie sighing.
She used to be fearless, but now she had become so cautious. She had no choice but to seek Rock's help to investigate and he quickly provided her with an exact address.
After expressing her gratitude to Rock for his assistance in the matter, Winnie drove to the location.
As the navigation led her further away from the city center, she eventually arrived at an old narrow building in a dilapidated alley.
Winnie couldn't believe that Olivia and her parents were hiding in such a place amidst the deteriorating environment. What had happened in these three years that caused the Smith family to end up like this?
Taking a deep breath, Winnie got out of her car and slowly walked into the building. Just as she was about to knock on the door, it swung open, and she came face to face with someone unexpected.
It was Laura holding an empty box of powdered milk, and upon seeing Winnie, she immediately looked up with wide eyes. The two best friends locked eyes, each with a hint of tears.
"Laura," Winnie called out softly.
"...Winnie?" Laura dropped the box in her hands and turned around, shouting inside, "Olivia! Winnie is here!"
Footsteps came from inside the room. Olivia, with her face now much slimmer and lacking the baby fat she used to have, appeared behind the door. Her long hair had been cut short, reaching her collarbones, framing her fair neck and shoulders.
Winnie remembered Olivia as a sweet and domineering girl three years ago, but now she had transformed into a silent and sophisticated woman.
While her features had become softer, exuding a hint of maternal charm, her eyes lacked their former shine. Surprised, she looked at Winnie, tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
Winnie took a deep breath, her trembling lips refusing to utter any words. She immediately made her way into the house.
"Winnie... Why have you come?" Olivia quickly wiped away the tears, pressed her lips together, cast a cautious glance outside, and closed the door swiftly.
This action pained Winnie. She carefully observed Olivia and the two-bedroom apartment that filled her heart with sorrow.
The Smith family used to live in a spacious villa, and Olivia was once a little princess. Tears welled up in Winnie's eyes as she looked at the two of them, her voice hoarse and filled with bitterness.
"I'm sorry, Olivia. I came back so late. Tell me everything that has happened to you in these three years."
"It's good that you're back!" Laura finally regained her senses and hugged Winnie tightly.
"We thought you were dead at first! Thankfully, Rock released us... He passed on the news, and I found out that you were alive. Winnie, you must have had a tough time these past three years, not daring to contact us..."
She didn't dare to make contact, afraid of revealing any flaws, still not strong enough to spread her wings. Winnie clenched her fists. Looking at Olivia,
"My biggest regret is dragging you into this! This matter is not over." Winnie said defiantly.
"Don't say that, I've been fine these past three years," Olivia said, calmly smiling and avoiding eye contact. Her worn-out and fearful appearance pierced Winnie's heart like a thorn.
"I'm back, don't be afraid, Olivia. I'm willing to do everything I can to support you and rebuild the Smith family," Winnie said with a pained voice.
Olivia shook her head gloomily, "Winnie, don't have any illusions. You don't know the influence of Lawrence R and the Ordelia family..."
She recalled that night three years ago and all the horrible things that followed, like a ferocious flood, almost immediately shaking her head.
Laura looked at her with pity and resentment, "Olivia, the three of us ended up like this because of Darcy's mischief. I think Winnie should know about all the suffering you've endured these past few years."
"Don't say anything, it will only make her feel uncomfortable," Olivia tried to stop her.
Laura, with red eyes, persisted,
"We've been weak for three years, suppressed by Darcy for three years. How long are you going to hide like a rat?”
“You need to think for yourself and also think about Mia and your parents. The Smith Group, such a massive enterprise, can be crippled with a single decree from Lawrence R while Darcy operates in the shadows, nearly reducing you to begging!” Laura said.
“That wretched woman has committed so many sins, I don't believe anyone can expose her!" Olivia said.
Laura blamed herself, "Winnie, that night three years ago, Olivia was humiliated by many people, and the next day, the scandal spread throughout Lymington. She lost her reputation overnight.”
Laura continued to explain the events as the memories of horror came flooding back, “Darcy turned the tables on her, saying it was you who sought out that girl, trying to defame her with a fake kidney donation, and claimed that you deliberately induced premature labor to seek revenge on Lawrence R. That jerk believed it all and turned against you with a deep hatred."
Winnie was silent as Laura continued.
"He bankrupted the Smith family, and as for silencing Olivia, Darcy secretly caused them to accumulate billions of dollars in debt. Olivia was made to stink, and no gentleman wanted to marry her.”
“At that desperate moment, when I found her, she was in a haze. If it weren't for her parents needing her support, she probably would have committed suicide.”
“To make matters worse, she later discovered she was pregnant with Mia. Olivia has a unique physical condition, and if she gets an abortion, she will never be able to conceive again. There was no other choice but for her to give birth to the child. To this day, she doesn't know which man was involved among so many that night."
Olivia's body trembled, her face ashen and pale. "Please, stop talking!"
Laura gritted her teeth and held her, still continuing, "Lawrence R can seal her fate with a mere decree, but Darcy goes to extreme lengths behind the scenes. Benjamin and I have tried to help Olivia, but she's opposed by Lawrence R, the Smith family bankrupted at Darcy's hands, and she's burdened with billions of dollars in debt. Olivia has been made to smell foul, and no eligible bachelor would associate with her.”
"Whispering rumors, both the Smith family and our family have suffered... Ray continued to control me, it's my fault! Even Olivia, who struggled to find a job while pregnant, was suppressed by Darcy's subordinates. As the cycle went on, Olivia's will was crushed, and the Smith family became what it is today, living on the streets in defeat.”
The room fell silent as Laura spoke.
“After giving birth to the child, Olivia became even more cautious, not even allowing me to see her. I could only secretly buy some milk powder and household items for Mia..." Winnie's eyes turned crimson.
Her friends were trapped and tormented like this! And Darcy, covering up her misdeeds. Olivia, so young and beautiful, should have had a bright future with Lord Lymington.
Everything was ruined, forcefully, an unwed mother for three years, enduring ridicule and falling from grace. Before meeting Olivia, she held resentment.
But now, knowing Lawrence R's suppression and Darcy's complacency in his wrongdoing, Winnie's hatred for these two people was almost overwhelming. Her gaze firmly fixed on a spot... Just then, the sound of the baby crying came from the bedroom. "Mommy, mommy..."
The soft cries of the baby girl startled everyone. Olivia immediately rushed in,
"Sweetheart, how did you wake up?" "Mia woke up. She's only two years old and can't speak properly yet. Do you want to go and check?" Laura spoke with relief and affection when mentioning the little one.
Winnie curved her lips and nodded heavily. The two women walked into the bedroom, where Olivia was busy changing her daughter's diaper in a fluster, and the bottle fell to the ground.
Winnie picked it up, remembering that Oscar stopped using bottles early. She pursed her lips and said, "Olivia, where is the formula? I'll make it."
"How would you know? I'll do it!" Laura said.
She looked at Winnie and vaguely recalled that morning three years ago when she went to confront Lawrence R and caught a glimpse of the hospital incubator.
That was the baby Winnie prematurely gave birth to. Lawrence R had blocked all information for these three years. Not even Laura or Ray, his brothers, could see the child. But she heard that the child survived.
Lawrence R cherished the child like a treasure and rarely let him go out.
In these three years, he had a drastic change in personality and cut off contact with his brothers, but he had a close relationship with that scum, Darcy.
They say the child considers Darcy as his mother. Laura couldn't confirm the rumors to Winnie, in fear of causing her more pain. Moreover, the child...
Winnie would surely never be able to retrieve him from his father. She heard it was twins, but the other one died when they jumped into the sea together.
Not wanting to reopen Winnie's wounds, Laura swallowed her words. If Winnie had the chance to meet the young master, she could discover it herself and then they could talk...
Laura sighed and went to the kitchen to prepare the milk powder. Winnie took the two-year-old baby girl from Olivia's hands. She was chubby, with little dimples on her wrists. So adorable.
