Chapter 325 Another One
Winnie was momentarily stunned, unable to comprehend why he had finally changed his mind and believed her words. She grabbed Olivia's hand and hurried toward the car.
The South Cave was located at the end of the natural reserve. The car could only be driven up to the tourist center. Beyond that point, a dark and undeveloped area awaited. Undeterred, Winnie stumbled her way up the mountain.
Flashing police lights highlighted Lawrence's towering figure as he stood beneath the night sky. His shirt and short hair were slightly disheveled, casting shadows over his handsome face. "They might be under the cave," he whispered to Winnie.
"Was our son taken inside?" Winnie couldn't see where the entrance to the cave was, but she was aware that they were standing on high ground. Her heart raced and she clasped her hand tightly.
At this moment, the special police force were scattered all around, shouting toward a large opening in the cave. "To the kidnappers inside, listen up! You are surrounded by law enforcement! Release the hostage quickly!"

Darcy froze upon hearing the police's announcement. Mars was taken aback as well. They couldn't believe that the police had successfully tracked them. Just half an hour ago, Mars' henchmen had reported that Lawrence was busy searching in the north.
"What is going on? Isn't Mr. L supposed to be in the north? How did he catch on?" Darcy was completely panicking. She had assumed that if Lawrence came to the southern suburbs after searching in the north, they would at least have until tomorrow morning. By then, she would have had enough time to torment and kill Sidney.
However, Sidney wasn't dead yet. At that time, another asthma attack seized Sidney; he was almost on the verge of death.
Darcy and Mars exchanged a cold glance, realizing they had to act quickly. They jumped into the deepest part of the cave.
Sidney dangled helplessly from the kidnapper's grip. His already frail body couldn't withstand further torture, and he was on the brink of passing out.
Mars swiftly pushed Darcy toward the kidnappers and coldly instructed, "Darcy, let them injure you. Fake it properly. I'm leaving first. I can't expose myself, and you know the reason why." With that, he disappeared from another exit beneath the cave, moving at lightning speed.
Darcy could only grit her teeth and stomp her foot at his desertion. After all, Mars really couldn't reveal himself. She quickly instructed the kidnappers to leave two wounds on her body before forcefully taking Sidney and instructed, "Tear him apart."
As soon as she finished speaking, a group of policemen descended from above. Meanwhile, Mars planted several explosives and ignited them. The echo of the massive explosion reverberated throughout the cave.
The sound almost shattered Winnie's heart. 'An explosion?' she thought to herself as she staggered for a moment. Before she could react, she saw Lawrence jump into the fiery opening of the cave.
"Lawrence, you can't go down there. It's dangerous. The police have already gone to rescue the Sidney!" Luke exclaimed anxiously.
But the man paid no attention, adjusting the rope twice before coming to a stop. Winnie stared deeply at Lawrence who was descending down the rope. She was determined to rush into the cave and save their son as well.
The police officer stopped her. "Don't cause trouble! Let us put out the fire first. The situation below is still unclear."
"No, I have to save my son," Winnie replied, tears welling up in her eyes. Even with the explosions, she remained determined. As Olivia held back the police officer, Winnie seized the opportunity to grab onto the rope and began to climb down.
After a large group of special forces descended, the cave was in disarray, covered in ashes.
"Sidney!" Lawrence roared angrily, his red eyes resembling an enraged lion. His sharp gaze scanned the surroundings, desperately searching for his offspring. His chest rose and fell dramatically as he was covered in cold sweat.
"Sidney?" Winnie paused for a moment, slightly puzzled by the name. She assumed it might be the name Lawrence had given Oscar himself. Her emotions became complicated as she looked at him.
"L... I'm here!" From a distance, Darcy's voice weakly pleaded for help.
Lawrence's eyes widened, and he rushed over. "Darcy! Where's Sidney?"
"Mr. L, the kidnappers were ruthless. They wanted to kill Sidney. I did my best to protect him, but there was an explosion just now. I don't know if he's dead or alive." Darcy wailed, consumed by grief.
Lawrence nearly lost his balance, his eyes ablaze with anguish. "He can't be dead..." He seemed to have gone mad, immediately giving an order to a special force member, "Rescue Darcy." Leaving Darcy behind, he began desperately digging through the rubble.
"Mr. L, save me..." Darcy's leg was indeed pinned under a rock, and seeing Lawrence completely ignoring her, her face turned green.
"Sidney!" At last, Lawrence located his son several meters away, the little boy's head smeared with dark, crimson blood. In that instant, his heart seemed to be crushed on a razor's edge, consumed by unbearable agony. A single teardrop shimmered in the corner of the man's eye, his fingers torn and bleeding from forcefully digging through the rubbles, yet he scarcely noticed.
With urgency, he unearthed his son and cradled him in his arms, checking for signs of life, desperate for any reassurance of breath and heartbeat. Lawrence stood up straight, but quickly sank down heavily.
"Mr. L, is the child all right?" Darcy, who had already been rescued by the special forces and placed on a stretcher, spoke weakly with concern in her voice. However, her gaze remained fixed on Sidney.
"He's still breathing, but his mouth and nose are filled with dust," Lawrence said hoarsely.
Darcy's heart sank suddenly, her face turning pale. Unbelievably, Sidney was still alive. Half of her plan had failed. It was all because Lawrence had arrived too quickly. She managed to kill one, but she hadn't had the chance to properly kill the other twin.
Looking at the depths of the ruined cave, she assumed that the little bastard, who had suffered an asthma attack for two hours, must have died. The entrance to the cave was buried so tightly, it was impossible for anyone to find him. Once she got out, she would immediately call Mars to have his body moved. Everything would be seamless.
"Officer, take Darcy up for medical attention," Lawrence commanded.
Darcy didn't dare linger any longer, fearing it would arouse suspicion. As for what Sidney would say, she wasn't worried. Dealing with that little brat was easier than dealing with his other twin. Darcy was sent up with a pained expression on her face.
"Daddy will take you to the hospital right away. Hang on!" Lawrence quickly coaxed as he saw Sidney faintly open his eyes.
He was about to walk away when Winnie, with teary eyes, rushed over. "Give him to me, Lawrence. You can't take him away alone."
Lawrence tightly pursed his lips, holding his son tightly as he gazed at Winnie's eyes, deep and cold. "I have no intention of arguing with you. You can't protect him, and as for taking care of him, you can't possibly offer better conditions than I can. I will provide him with the best medical treatment and care that you can't reach." He swiftly moved past her.
Winnie tried to stop him but couldn't. Oscar was seriously injured and she couldn't be selfish and intervene in the situation. The scene of Lawrence digging through the rubbles to save the child flashed vividly in her mind. He even disregarded Darcy throughout the process. Perhaps this was what people call as the bond of blood, even though he had never spent a day with Oscar.
While Winnie looked at her son in the man's arms, filled with guilt, the little one suddenly weakly voiced out. Sidney knew his dad was going to take him away, and he anxiously grabbed his dad's sleeve. "You can't go..."
Lawrence frowned and patiently said, "You are too weak now, don't speak."
"Daddy, don't go… And there's something else…" Overwhelmed by desperation, Sidney's tears flowed uncontrollably, yet his scattered thoughts hindered him from completing a coherent sentence. His hand fell, and he slipped into unconsciousness.
Lawrence's heart skipped a beat and murmured in confusion, "What else, Sidney?" Instinctively, he glanced around the cave, but there was nothing.
