Chapter 627 Illness Originates from the Mind
Mars said, "Uncle, I've been tracking Sean for a few days. This fool is now feeling very proud because of his father's power. Despite his cowardice, if used properly, he could be our biggest asset."
"Sean?" Ronnie frowned, a playful glint in his eyes, "Mars, do you have a plan?"
"Lawrence is not around, and those old guys with Bob are like loose sand. Whatever the situation, it's advantageous for us. Jeremy is Lawrence's right-hand man, the most difficult to deal with, so let's not confront him directly. What if we instigate infighting among them?"
Mars smirked sinisterly, crushed his cigarette, and slipped his hands into his pockets.
Ronnie understood his intention. He grinned. "All set, just waiting for the right moment."
"Isn't EWM just lacking a bit of data?" he said.
On the island, Winnie counted the days absentmindedly, unknowingly trapped here for half a month.
Despite the leisurely days and Lawrence's constant care and attention, she was visibly losing weight. She believed that illness stemmed from the mind. Feeling stifled and unable to shake off her married status, she experienced guilt for spending every day with Lawrence.
Especially when Lawrence teased her, she would argue with him.
Even in their arguments, once she started talking to him, her thoughts would drift away from Rock. She couldn't accept this side of herself.
One day, Lawrence urged her to get up. "Wife, the butler says today is good for clamming. I'll take you to the white sandy beach."
"No..."
Before Winnie could object, the man lifted her from the bed and teasingly rubbed against her, commenting, "You're becoming lazier."
She wasn't lazy; she simply didn't want to be alone with him. With the servants present in the mansion, she could at least avoid engaging in conversation with him.
Lawrence was cunning; he understood how to provoke her and playfully tease her, passing it off as flirting. He manipulated her into reluctantly giving in to him.
"Call me 'husband'? Or should I help you change clothes?" His eyes lingered on her delicate skin, marked with faint redness.
Winnie pushed him away in annoyance. Blushed, she quickly dressed and stormed downstairs.
Lawrence watched her cold back, a hint of a bitter smile in the corner of his lips.
Sometimes, she behaved, but most of the time, her stubbornness prevailed.
Lawrence had never met a woman as challenging as Winnie. From the start, he had felt that she was the most special to him. That's why he had loved her for so many years, finding it impossible to move on.
"Aren't you coming? If not, I'll go to sleep!" Winnie's cold voice echoed from downstairs.
He furrowed his brows, then descended the stairs in beach shorts. Lawrence, holding a professional fishing rod with the fishing line between his lips, looked unexpectedly sexy. Come on, sweetheart. Today, I'm going to catch a big fish just for you," he said.
Winnie stole a glance at his handsome features; lately, he appeared more lively each night. 'Shameless man,' Winnie thought before darting outside.
Lawrence took charge of steering the yacht away from the island, navigating towards the heart of the sea. He applied sunscreen to Winnie and meticulously arranged a sunshade for her.
Standing lazily by the yacht's edge, he began fishing.
Soon, the hook started moving, tugging downward continuously. Excitement gleamed in Lawrence's eyes. "Darling, it's a big codfish. Come help me pull it up!"
Winnie had never been treated to such a swanky deep-sea fishing adventure. The sheer size of the fish sparked her curiosity. She started to get up, but then quickly collected herself. She was hell-bent on not letting him play her emotions like a fiddle or sidetrack her with his conversation topics.
Pretending indifference, Winnie turned and went into the cabin, saying coldly, "I'm not interested. Do it yourself."
Lawrence's eyelids drooped slightly, but he maintained a smile as he inquired, "Sweetheart, what would you like for dinner? Are you in the mood for pan-fried cod or sashimi? I can prepare whichever you prefer, alright?"
"No, I don't want to eat what you make!" Winnie turned her face away, her lips pursed stubbornly. "Stop doing these useless things. Lawrence, don't think your daytime tenderness can change your despicable face of nighttime exploitation! I'm not that stupid; my heart won't be worn down by you here, nor will I be moved. If you think you're being affectionate, then continue."
After speaking, she ignored his dark, handsome face, clenched her fists, and ran down the cabin steps. Lawrence's eyes darkened.
Winnie hadn't uttered such harsh words in days. He believed she was truly on the brink of giving up.
He sneered, pulled the fish up, was about to wipe his hands, and went after her when the phone in his pocket rang.
Glancing at it, it was Jeremy calling.
"Hello, Jeremy?" Lawrence sounded.
"Lawrence!" Jeremy sounded unusually excited. "EWM has succeeded in research. Doctor Aaron from the lab announced the good news ten minutes ago. I immediately called your father, and the second call was to you!"
"Is that so?"
Lawrence's tone remained calm, slightly affirmative. "Jeremy, you've done well."
"Is that all?" Jeremy was rendered speechless.
"Lawrence, you've created the world's most intelligent chip! Shouldn't you be a bit more thrilled? You spent half a month in Dreamland for this chip, nearly mortgaging the entire Island Electronics. After investing over a hundred billion dollars, the best outcome has finally emerged! The Rodriguez Group is on the verge of becoming a global leader. No company can outdo it, and the market value is expected to quintuple. You are truly the wealthiest man."
"Yeah, I know." Lawrence remained calm, making a decision. "Spread the news of the successful chip development and attract investment firms. Hold an official press conference in half a month, and I'll attend."
"When are you coming back then? Bob is practically forcing me to death!" Jeremy quickly brought up this matter, asking, "Do you see the dilemma I'm in? I'm not knowledgeable about chips; my role is to oversee the lab. With the news out, numerous global companies will likely be interested in partnering with the Rodriguez Group. Your presence is urgently required by the company, and this matter is crucial. You are better equipped to handle everything from promoting the chips to securing partnerships. If something goes awry during this time, there won't be enough people to take the blame. This is a significant opportunity!"
Looking at Winnie in the cabin, Lawrence turned around, his eyes darkened by the sea breeze, lowering his voice. What is Brian's team working on? With numerous shareholders in the company, the Rodriguez Group backs them, and it's time to leverage their support! Does the world come to a halt in my absence?"
Jeremy was taken aback by his words; swallowing hard, he asked, "Tell me, what have you done to Winnie? Or, have you not won her over yet?"
The atmosphere on the other end of the phone suddenly turned grim!
