Chapter 750 Winning Back the Ex-Wife

Though Lawrence towered over her, his attentiveness made him seem like a large, devoted dog, circling her with a subtle smile playing in his deep-set eyes.

Winnie, fuming with anger, couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. "Seriously, Lawrence? Where's that high-and-mighty CEO act you used to have?"

"I heard that when you're around someone you like, it's best to ditch the pride. Self-respect is an illusion," Lawrence said casually.

Over the past few days, he'd done some serious thinking. With his sharp mind, he came up with the ultimate plan to win Winnie back. He figured out that the key was to be shamelessly persistent and relentlessly tenacious. Given Winnie's gentle nature, she'd cut him some slack a few times. If he kept at it, eventually, she wouldn't be able to shake him off.

Lawrence silently smirked.

Winnie looked at his confident demeanor, completely unaware of his schemes, and felt increasingly speechless.

"Pride's overrated when it comes to winning back an ex-wife." He gave her a deep, ambiguous look.

With Lawrence's teasing, Winnie started to miss the cold, distant Lawrence from before.

She walked into the emergency room, annoyed, needing to fill out the patient's consultation form first.

Lawrence leaned against the reception desk, raising his right hand charmingly. "I'm injured."

Once again, she was in a tight spot.

She had no choice but to take his temperature and fill out the information.

Lawrence followed her all the way, his thin lips slightly curled as he watched her busy figure. Then he went to the respiratory department for a stomach wash, and his arm and chest wounds needed anti-inflammatory treatment.

After a flurry of activity, Lawrence glanced at his watch. It was nearly one o'clock in the dead of night.

Although he really wanted Winnie to stay with him, he couldn't bear to see her too tired. "Winnie, call Ray."

Winnie glanced at him, thinking he wanted Ray to come take care of him.

Unexpectedly, Lawrence said into the phone, "Ray, help me take Winnie home."

Winnie was taken aback and refused. "No need, I'm not familiar with him. I'll take a cab home myself. I don't want him yelling at me again like he used to when he was protecting Darcy."

Lawrence's handsome face darkened for a moment, and he apologized on Ray's behalf. "Winnie, that was his mistake."

"Have you never been wrong?" Winnie shot back sarcastically.

Seeing her bring up old grievances, Lawrence sighed helplessly. "It was my mistake. I deeply regret those things. I want Ray to take you home because it's late, and you're beautiful. I don't want anyone bothering you. As for me, don't worry about it. I'll sleep here tonight. By the way, I'll pay you back for the medical expenses you covered tomorrow."

Winnie glanced at him sideways. Lawrence, already handsome and disheveled, sat alone in the infusion room, empty and deserted.

She had inquired about the rooms earlier; they were all full.

He was quite seriously injured, sitting on a bench all night with no place to stretch his long legs.

Winnie closed her eyes in frustration, wondering when she had become so kind-hearted.

She said coldly, "If you want to freeze here, suit yourself. You don't need to pay me back. Don't think I don't know you're using this as an excuse to come bother me again tomorrow."

Lawrence, seeing through her in one glance, curled his thin lips. "Not paying you back is fine. It shows you don't see me as an outsider. Next time, I'll treat you to dinner."

"Who says I don't see you as an outsider?" Winnie realized he was really good at getting under her skin.

She shot him a cold glare. "I'm just not giving you a chance to get close to me. I'm too tired to deal with you. I'm leaving, no need for Ray to take me."

"Stick around, Winnie." Lawrence gently held her with his big hand. "I'm worried. I know you don't want Ray to take you because you're afraid no one will look after me here." Lawrence said, feigning pity.

"You're overthinking it." Although that was indeed her concern, Winnie wouldn't admit it. She couldn't stand his advances anymore. "Let go of me. If you don't, I'll stick you with a needle."

Winnie felt Lawrence was annoyingly clingy.

"Alright, if you insist on going alone, let Ray know when you get home. If you don't text him, I'll have to ask Rock if you got home safely." Lawrence squinted, looking worried.

"Lawrence." Winnie clenched her fists and finally compromised, "I'll text him. You don't need to ask Rock. I'll sleep at Dazzling Estate tonight, okay?"

Satisfied with the answer, Lawrence let go. "Be careful on the way."

Winnie angrily stomped away in her high heels.

Lawrence slightly curled his thin lips. It seemed that the shameless persistence was working. Winnie didn't have as many schemes as he did.

Lawrence had never imagined that one day he would shed his callous demeanor and humble himself before Winnie. However, as long as it meant winning back his beloved Winnie, Lawrence found it to be of no consequence.

After returning to Dazzling Estate, Winnie sent Ray a cold message: [I'm home.]

Ray quickly replied: [That's good, get some rest. By the way, Oscar is with my mom today, and Sidney and he are probably at my mom's place. Don't worry.]

Clearly, Ray had already arrived at the hospital, and Lawrence had commandeered his phone.

Winnie threw her phone aside speechlessly, washed up, and lay on the bed. She was clearly exhausted, but her mind kept replaying the events of the evening party. In the end, Lawrence's handsome face lingered in her mind, refusing to go away.

She didn't fall asleep until very late.

Two hours earlier.

Rock was at The King Family's place when Mars suddenly called him away.

Mars was furious, accusing him, "Rock, what the hell was that brilliant plan of yours? Not only did we fail to kill Lawrence, he ended up saving Angelina and becoming the Harpers' hero! I just saw Harper thanking him profusely!"

Rock hadn't gone inside the villa to see.

His face twisted with anger.

"How was I supposed to know that an explosion wouldn't kill him? Is he superhuman? And he saved Angelina, too?" Rock said.

"You underestimated his strength! You've ruined me. If it weren't for your instigation, I wouldn't have acted at The King Family's place. If it were just him, it wouldn't be a big deal, but Angelina ran into the greenhouse. Now, both The Harper Family and The King Family will definitely investigate this. If they trace it back to me, I'm in trouble." Mars glared at him resentfully, took a call from Ronnie, and immediately threw down his cigarette butt and left.

In the dark night, Rock coldly watched Mars leave and slowly began to smile.

He hadn't killed Lawrence, which was infuriating, but if this mess dragged down the Petersons and Mars… that would clear his path nicely.

After all, Rock did not wish to remain Mars's subordinate for his entire life.
