Chapter 954 Strange
"Of course not!" Winnie wiped her tear-streaked face. "We have to trust Jeremy's skills."
Jeremy walked away, dialing his subordinate as he got into the car. His eyes narrowed with a cold intensity. "Anything unusual with Lynn in the last couple of hours? She doesn't have a phone, so she shouldn't be able to contact her people."
"Mr. DeRoss, she doesn't have a phone, but I found something!"
His subordinate quickly reported, "Right after you left, Lynn moved to a corner and kept biting a button on her clothes. I took it from her and checked it, but found nothing unusual. To be safe, I dismantled the button."
"No need to check further," Jeremy pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's probably a communicator. She was trying to signal her people that she didn't get what she wanted from me."
As he spoke, a thought darkened his eyes. "Mia's in even more danger! Keep pressing her until she gives us a lead!"
Would Lynn's people go rogue and harm Mia after losing contact with her?
No one could predict what might happen.
Jeremy floored the gas pedal, and the car sped off. A faint sheen of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
He led a large team, chasing all the way to the end of the main road, an industrial park. It was a vast area with numerous factories. "Split up, each of you take a section, and search every road thoroughly!"
Midway, Louis sent over additional manpower, about thirty people.
But two hours later, the hundred-strong team had scoured every corner of the industrial park, finding neither the unlicensed car nor any unfamiliar men or little girl.
They returned empty-handed.
Jeremy stood on the factory roof, his tall frame tense as iron.
His spirits plummeted, clutching his phone, his brows furrowed deeply.
The darkness was thick, the time nearing midnight.
The cold wind made his eyes bloodshot. He contacted Ray, who answered with a curse, "I found the car, unlicensed, matching the one in the surveillance footage. But the driver escaped, and there's no sign of Mia. I had the police check the car; no hair or fingerprints of a little girl were found, proving Mia was never in that car."
"What about your side, Jeremy?" Ray assumed Jeremy had a lead.
"We searched the entire industrial park, not even finding the car," Jeremy bit down on his cigarette, feeling baffled.
Ray took a deep breath. "Then the only place left is the first intersection. Ask the police for updates!"
They quickly contacted the police.
The police were inspecting abandoned cars by the roadside. "Mr. DeRoss, we found the car, but no one was inside. We're checking surveillance to find the driver, but no little girl was found in the car."
"Impossible..." Jeremy gripped his phone tightly. Surveillance showed Mia being taken by these three cars.
She had to be in one of them.
Why wasn't she in the first two cars?
And the third car had vanished in the direction of the industrial park!
"Keep searching. A living child can't just disappear," Jeremy growled, reminding himself. If she wasn't in the first two cars, she had to be in the last one.
But why wasn't the car found in the industrial park?
He immediately contacted Winnie. "Give the phone to Olivia."
"Jeremy, did you find Mia?" Olivia's voice was strained with worry.
Jeremy had to keep his composure. "Check the surveillance at the entrance to the industrial park. Look for any cars entering between ten and twelve."
Olivia knew this meant Mia was still missing.
She held back tears, glancing at the clock. It was almost one o'clock.
What would those people do to Mia? How would they treat her?
She couldn't bear to think about it, her fingers numb as she clicked on the computer. After a while, her tear-streaked face lit up. "I checked. The park closes at eight, and no cars are allowed in. But at ten fourteen, that unlicensed car broke in, heading left! There's no surveillance further down the road!"
"Everyone!" Jeremy called out, immediately giving orders. "Search the left side of the park again. That car came in here!"
A large team drove to the left side to search.
But ten minutes later, they reported back to Jeremy. "Mr. DeRoss, we really didn't find any car here."
A car that big couldn't just disappear!
Jeremy's eyes grew colder, standing at the left side of the park. His breathing was heavy, as if he could hear Mia's helpless cries. She had to have been brought here.
Why had both the car and Mia vanished?
He ran forward, frantically searching. Suddenly, he heard the sound of rushing water beyond the park's wall.
Using his height, he leaped up, peering over the wall. Outside the park was a wide river, the water rushing forward, merging with the sea at Lymington.
This was Lymington's famous Silverstream River.
How could he have forgotten?
Jeremy's body temperature dropped to freezing. He quickly jumped down, searching for an exit in the wall.
Sure enough, at the back of the park, he found an exit leading to the rushing Silverstream River, with boats passing by.
He knew why Mia and the car had disappeared!
He quickly ordered his men, "Prepare the diving equipment. Search this area of the river."
"Sir, do you think they dumped the car in the river? What about Mia..." his subordinate asked.
"She was moved," Jeremy said, squinting at the distant boats, his brows furrowing deeply. The Silverstream River led to many places, and the kidnappers had found a cunning way to break the trail.
Now it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Where to look for Mia?
What was her condition now? After such a journey, had they beaten or scolded her for not cooperating?
Jeremy felt a surge of anger and helplessness, clenching his fists.
Just then, his phone rang.
It was Winnie. He frowned, answering, and heard Olivia's voice. "Jeremy! The police just contacted us. Someone reported seeing a little girl being held in an eastern neighborhood. The police are on their way. I think it's Mia. We need to go too!"
Jeremy's mind raced. The east? It was far from the park. Mia had clearly been taken to the park. How had she suddenly been moved to the east? Wait...
He frowned. "Who reported seeing Mia?"
"I didn't ask in detail. The police said it was a woman? Just go!" Olivia was frantic.
"Okay." Jeremy's brows furrowed deeply. Something felt off. The kidnappers were following Lynn's orders. Why the sudden change? How was Mia found in an eastern neighborhood?
