Chapter 229 Locked Up
"You're nothing short of a devil. You got to, happily, get engaged to Darcy, sleep with her last night, and yet why can't I choose my own life? Who gave you the right to deprive me of my freedom? My dignity? My child?!" Tears fell, icy and cold. She was driven to madness.
Blankly, she fell onto the carpet, tilting her head back, her long hair cascading around her beautiful neck, like a wounded swan, full of sorrow.
"You exposed those kinds of photos to the public, letting everyone in Lymington know that I'm a wretched woman, getting pregnant and sleeping with you, and sleeping in the bathtub with Rock. No man will ever want me again."
"If you had behaved, why would I do that?" the man spoke indifferently. There was a hint of a cruel, yet handsome expression in his eyes. He planted his hands on his knees, leaning towards her in the dimness.
"I gave you a chance, Winnie, but you didn't seize it."
That day at the bridal shop, he had made up his mind, and his words were indeed true, causing her to pay a heavy price.
"If you don't want me, forcing me to divorce you, then why are you still clinging onto me so tightly? Am I that attractive to you? You beast! It's because of you that the Harrington family is on the verge of collapse today."
He firmly held her chin with his long finger, coldly smiling as if treading on a lion's tail. "I said, the child is mine, and no one else can be called their father...You are what I don't want, and you are unable to become someone else's!”
“Rock deceived his parents; this child is from the Harrington family's seed. When you all changed his surname right in front of me at the bridal shop, his fate of destruction was sealed today. Am I a beast? No, Lymington all knows, Lawrence R is not easy to provoke!"
Winnie finally realized how terrifying it was. He was seeking revenge on Rock, on all of them!
Just how terrifying was this man? She felt, that the person before her, had become so unfamiliar and bloodthirsty.
"What do you want in order to spare Rock, to spare the Harrington family?" she asked weakly.
Her chin was deformed by his grip, showing the strength he exerted. A cold sneer echoed above, "Just dare to plead for him again."
"By using your power to arrest him, aren't you forcing me to come back and plead?" Winnie sneered, tears welling up.
She suddenly shook off his hand, stood up, and regardless of whether there were other people in the room or not, she took off her coat. Underneath was a champagne-colored dress with a flat collar. She viciously tore it off as well,
The fabric, smooth as flowing water, was incomparable to her long, slender, fair, and delicate legs. Her long hair covered her chest, and in the dim light, her pale white body collided like jade in the man's eyes. Lawrence R's icy breath grew tense.
Winnie hated him with everything that she was, walking over and kneeling on top of him, devoid of everything. She finally understood.
"Is this what you want? Fine, take me as many times as you want. As long as you spare him, I am already familiar with this kind of deal." She sneered.
The last time it was her cousin Lena. He had long trampled her self-esteem underfoot. But she still underestimated this man's desire for destruction. Suddenly, his scorching hand captured her, flipping her over to the side.
Lawrence R took off his shirt and maliciously pressed it down, saying, "You think I want a despicable person like you? That I would still bother to touch you?"
It felt as if her heart was being pierced by one nail after another. She smiled, her deathly white lips leaving behind traces of cherry-red blood, "Well, that's true. Last night, you must have slept enough with Darcy, now you have no strength left."
"Shut up! You, a cheap woman who cheated, don't know when to stop!"
Lawrence R turned around and knocked on the table, gesturing for the bouncer outside the door to come in. "Bring this woman upstairs and she is not allowed to leave this apartment without my permission," he said.
"Don't you even dare imprison me!" Suddenly, his wrist was bitten.
"What! Are you crazy?" He looked down in horror at the clumsy woman pouncing on him.
She had almost bitten off a piece of flesh from his wrist, showing just how desperate Winnie was. She had already reached her breaking point on the way here, but she had been holding on, trying to keep her composure.
And yet, he still wanted to lock her away. Why? Even after divorcing her, did he still want to possess her? Was it that simple to enjoy the benefits of a successful person?
"You forced me to come back just so you can confine me here? You are dreaming! I have already paid for all my wrongdoings. I haven't done anything to you! You have hurt me enough. You wanted to end our engagement and divorce me. You even wanted to get rid of our child!"
"I finally sought Rock's help and yet you ruthlessly destroyed my future. Since you won't let me go, and you won't let Rock go, then we'll fight to the bitter end."
She was truly desperate. If she was imprisoned, she would forever burden Rock and the Harrington family. She let go of his wrist and quickly grabbed a fruit knife from the side of the sofa, stabbing it towards his arm.
‘It's better to end it all, my dear child, Mommy is sorry.’ She spoke silently to her little baby
"You crazy woman." Lawrence R furrowed his brows tightly. His arm was bleeding profusely, but he didn't dodge. If he dodged, she would fall off the sofa. Her belly was already so big. A hint of complexity flashed through his black eyes.
"What are you..." Winnie didn't expect him to not dodge. She regained a bit of her clarity, staring blankly at his shirt stained with blood and the horrifying wound on his wrist.
"Are you done being crazy?" Lawrence R forcefully pressed her down on the sofa, carefully examining her dilated pupils.
With a cold tone, he said, "If you're done, then go upstairs. Your threats have no effect on me. And don't get delusional, I'm only keeping you locked up so that Darcy won't suffer anymore."
With those words everything fell silent. The pain he had inflicted on her didn’t compare to this sentence. So, in the end, it was still about Darcy. He was willing to go to such lengths to spare her from pain. The child he didn't want ended up being used for this purpose. Impressive!
Of course, Lawrence R didn't actually think like this, but for some reason, hurtful words slipped out. Perhaps he didn't want her to notice that he still cared about this child, that he didn't want to give her any leverage.
‘Forget it, let's talk about the rest after she gives birth to the child.’ He shook his head as he thought to himself.
"Take her upstairs and lock her up!" he shouted, pinching his brow.
A maid and two male bodyguards quickly approached, restraining Winnie. The fruit knife in her hand had already been kicked into a corner by Lawrence R.
He gave a dark warning, "Remove all sharp objects from the room upstairs and keep her under surveillance 24 hours a day."
"I would rather starve than be locked up by you. I'll fight till the end. My child will never let you and Darcy take advantage of him, even if he dies. Just you wait and see!" Winnie thundered unexpectedly.
