Chapter 958 Biding Time

Darcy fled back to Trento City when the Ordelia Group went under, thanks to Lawrence. Her family was in shambles, and when they tried to team up with the Blanchet Family, they got ditched without a second thought.

During that rough patch, she lived like a stray, with news of the Ordelia Family's downfall everywhere. She drifted from place to place, hiding in grimy corners, biding her time to get back at Winnie and win Lawrence back.

Little did she know, Ishara was even more cutthroat.

She bribed a doctor and found out Ishara had stolen Winnie's embryo.

But then, Lawrence got taken down by Rock, and Darcy gave up on him.

After nearly a year of being homeless, her resentment festered like a wound. Reality's blows turned into a burning rage. She had been lying low for so long, but now she wanted to come back, to show up in everyone's face, to seize the chance to get revenge on Winnie and Lawrence, and to reclaim her lost wealth!

So, she gathered intel about Trento City and set her sights on Lynn.

That fool, so easy to manipulate.

With Lynn's help, Darcy could have re-entered high society.

But Lynn was unreliable. She came up with a plan to trap Jake, but at the last moment, Jeremy kicked her out of the wedding chapel.

Mia's true identity was also revealed by Winnie.

With Lynn's downfall, Darcy decided to use her to make a quick buck and rise again. She pushed Lynn to kidnap Mia and demand a billion dollars from Jeremy.

Lynn failed again, and Jeremy wasn't fazed by her threats.

Darcy orchestrated the kidnapping from behind the scenes, and Mia was already in their hands.

What could she do?

Jeremy mobilized the entire DeRoss Family, nearly turning Lymington upside down in the middle of the night. Darcy knew it was only a matter of time before she was exposed.

So, she devised a plan to have the kidnappers ditch the car in the industrial park and secretly move Mia to the eastern district, while she pretended to be the hero and called the cops.

If she couldn't get the billion dollars, she would reappear in Lymington this way, letting Winnie know she was back.

'Winnie, Lawrence, Olivia, Jeremy... all of you, just wait.'

'From now on, you will know no peace!'

And now, her target was Ray.

Ray had always been different to her.

As for the kidnapping, she was just giving some advice from behind the scenes. She had everything arranged with the kidnappers.

As for Lynn, Darcy smirked coldly. Since she dared to call the cops, she naturally had a way to keep Lynn quiet.

Darcy's eyes gleamed with a sinister light as she looked out at the familiar streets of Lymington. She was back, and she was determined to rise again! She heard Ray was divorced; wasn't he the perfect choice?

Laura was nowhere to be found, and she was much easier to deal with than Winnie.

Darcy's lips curled into a calculating smile.

At 4 a.m., Evergreen Hospital, an ambulance pulled up, and Jeremy carried Mia out of the vehicle.

Neurologists and pediatric specialists were waiting at the emergency room entrance. Seeing the tall figure of Jeremy, the deputy director immediately stepped forward. "Is the patient the child in your arms, Mr. DeRoss?"

"Yeah, please take her to the emergency room and diagnose her right away!"

Jeremy's voice was low and urgent.

The deputy director was taken aback. He used to work under Lawrence and knew Jeremy well.

He had never heard of him having a daughter this age!

After a moment of surprise, the deputy director didn't dare ask more questions and pointed to a gurney, "Mr. DeRoss, please place the child on the gurney."

Jeremy laid Mia down and, as he was about to leave, glanced back at Olivia.

Olivia, frail, stepped out of the car, and he waited for her.

Winnie instinctively supported Olivia, knowing she was still weak. The recent turmoil and hysteria, especially tonight's danger, must have taken a heavy toll on her.

The group headed to the emergency room.

The deputy director directed the neurologists to examine Mia.

After two agonizing hours, the brain CT results came back. The specialist brought them to the room where Jeremy stood by the window, immediately turning to face them, "How is she?"

The specialist's brow relaxed slightly, "Mr. DeRoss, the brain scan shows a small blood clot at the back of her head, but it's not large enough to be life-threatening. The concussion is mild. We recommend conservative treatment once she wakes up. Children have a natural ability to heal, and the blood clot will gradually dissipate."

Olivia's pale face finally showed a hint of relief.

Jeremy's long lashes fluttered as he looked down, holding an unlit cigarette in his hand. He rarely smoked, but now he needed it to ease his overwhelming tension.

He nodded slightly, but his brows remained furrowed. Looking at Olivia holding Mia's small hand, he asked, "Then why hasn't she woken up after two hours? Did you check thoroughly?"

"Mr. DeRoss!" The specialist broke into a cold sweat. Since the brain scan was clear, the reason for her unconsciousness must lie elsewhere.

They were at a loss, presenting the examination report, "Mr. DeRoss, the child has some facial and chest injuries, likely from impact and punches. We also did a blood test, and there are no major issues. As for her digestive tract, we need to wait until she wakes up to screen for foreign objects.

We suspect that the combination of the beating, the shock, and the concussion caused her temporary unconsciousness.

Please be patient. Comas vary in severity. Let's wait 24 hours to see if she wakes up."

"And if she doesn't?! What are you people even doing?"

Jeremy was furious, dissatisfied with their answer.

Mia lay there, lifeless, her once adorable face now pale and bloodless.

He longed for her to open her eyes and see him, to call him "Dad."

After being kept in the dark for three years, he yearned to hear that long-awaited "Dad."

"She will wake up," Olivia said hoarsely. Seeing his icy demeanor and agitated state, she feared he might lash out at the doctors. She looked down at Mia and said, "Let's wait a bit longer. Since Mia's brain is fine, there's no immediate danger, right, doctor?"

"Yes, the prolonged unconsciousness is due to the child's young age and the trauma of the kidnapping," the doctor confirmed.

Winnie stepped forward, touching Mia's hand. She turned to Jeremy. "Alright, Jeremy, stop giving the doctors a hard time. Let them treat her external injuries."

Jeremy's brows tightened, his eyes dark and heavy. He couldn't bear to see Mia in this state.

He took long strides out of the room, "I'm going out for a smoke and to get you all something to eat."

Dawn was breaking.
