Chapter 26 He Descended from the sky

Fortunately, the upcoming charity auction caught the attention of the wealthy, temporarily putting aside the scandal surrounding Ava.

The wealthy began to discuss the auction items. Sophia heaved a sigh of relief and found Ava on the stairs. Ava had washed her face, changed into an evening gown, and regained some composure.

However, she was still sullen due to Mrs. Davis. She resented Sophia, saying, "Mom, Winnie saw through all your plans and turned the dirt on me! She's truly hateful! I do not want you to get involved anymore. I am sure she is feeling triumphant after trampling over me earlier. I can't wait to see how much money she has at the auction. I'll make her a laughing stock and salvage my dignity tonight."

"Ava!" Sophia exclaimed in concern. She felt that she had already failed, let alone her daughter.

Ava elegantly rushed into the auction house, and Daniel returned.

Ava keenly noticed Winnie walking in and immediately threw herself into Daniel's arms while crying bitterly.

"Daniel, is Mrs. Davis still angry? She would rather believe Winnie's accusations than trust her son? You know, you are everything to me. Winnie is jealous of our love and wants to destroy me!"

Daniel, who was initially wavering, softened again at her tears.

Following Ava's gaze, he also saw Winnie, who had just come in. He furrowed his brows, walked over, and grabbed Winnie by the arm,

"You have gone too far, Winnie! Why did you accuse Ava? I know what kind of a person you are. Even if Mrs. Sophia wants to do something to you, you cannot maliciously ruin Ava's reputation!"

Winnie stood there as Daniel continued scolding her. "Even if they want to exterminate you, you cannot harm Ava in the slightest!"

She looked up at Daniel, her expression completely changed. In that instant, something deep within her heart froze.

She sneered. "Daniel, one can only say that the hospital's reconstructive technology has pleased you greatly."

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Ava stared at Winnie with hostility as she tried to quickly change the subject.

"Winnie, are you here to bid on oil paintings today? I heard you're in a tight financial situation now and even have a boyfriend who's a hoodlum. Do you need my help?"

Daniel's gaze on Winnie became dim. A low whisper immediately came from the side.

"What, Winnie is in a relationship with a hoodlum?"

Ava, pretending to defend Winnie, said, "Everyone, please don't say that. Winnie might have temporarily made a wrong decision."

"Oh my God, associating with a hoodlum, willingly falling into depravity. Winnie has completely ruined the Anderson family's reputation." People started to murmur after hearing that.

"Everyone, please stop. Lily, didn't you say you saw Winnie was extravagantly shopping at a mall that day? Maybe her boyfriend is rich! Winnie, now that you have a new boyfriend, why don't you bring him to meet us?" Ava provocatively suggested.

"What's there to see in a hoodlum? With her shabby appearance, she probably doesn't even have enough money for the starting bid, Ava." Lily openly mocked, the two of them echoing each other.

The debutantes were all mocking Winnie.

At this moment, the lights dimmed, and the entire venue was filled with luxury items to be auctioned.

The auction began. The first item up for bid was a Victorian-era oil painting.

The starting bid was one million. Daniel raised his paddle and bid first. "Two million dollars!"

The debutantes in the audience exclaimed in envy, "Daniel is so extravagant, doubling the bid to make Ava smile!"

Ava was secretly delighted as Winnie did not raise her card. As Ava had predicted, she stood up and kindly said to the host, "Wait, I also want to bid. Winnie, what's your offer?"

She had spoken into the microphone. Hence, everyone in the room could hear her.

All eyes turned to Winnie, waiting for her to make an offer.

Winnie remained expressionless, her gaze downward. Olivia had only 800,000 in cash, which was not enough even for the starting bid.

Daniel immediately shouted, "Two million!" This couple clearly intended to humiliate her.

"Winnie, isn't your loser boyfriend coming? Don't tell me you don't even have ten thousand on you?" Lily mockingly remarked, followed by laughter from a few debutantes.

"If you don't have money, don't embarrass yourself by taking up a seat."

The host frowned and scolded Winnie, "Ms. Winnie, if you don't make an offer or can't afford to, the security will escort you out. Don't hinder the proceedings."

Ava sneered.

Just then, from the darkness, a cold and chilling voice shouted, "Five million!"

Everyone, including Winnie, was taken aback. She recognized that charming voice and turned her head to look.

In full view of everyone, an incredibly tall man leisurely walked toward Winnie. His elegant footsteps and towering presence exuded maturity, stability, and an aura of unfathomable menace.

The room swallowed its breath as he strode in, the air humming with suppressed energy. His mask, a cryptic masterpiece of swirling shadows, held every pair of eyes hostage. Debutantes clutched their pearls, voices caught in their throats before dissolving into breathless whispers.

The crowd held their breath. Winnie's eyes twitched in disbelief as she stared blankly at him.

The dimly lit room swallowed his figure whole yet his presence thrummed through the air. The man remained unfazed, walking up with grace to her spot. In the darkness, he elegantly bent down towards her. His hand, a whisper against her skin, gently grabbing her wrist.

A shiver ran down her spine, the unexpected move from the man sending a tremor through her.

He furrowed his deep, dark eyebrows and observed her delicate face. This skin, this small forehead, they were all so fragile and delicate, but her eyes sparkled with determination and intelligence. He confirmed that she was unharmed.

Only then did the enigmatic man sit down mysteriously. In a faint voice, he asked her, "Am I late?"

Winnie's heart skipped a beat. She didn't know why, but every time he appeared, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry.

Winnie blinked her eyes, pressing her cherry lips together. "You're not late, Mr. L."

"L." He gently reminded her.

"L." Winnie bit her lip, calling out his name with a hint of gratitude in her soft voice.

The man settled down beside her, crossing his legs. Winnie stole glances at him, wondering why he was there when he was supposed to be on a business trip. His arrival felt like a divine intervention, a twist of fate in her favor.

Winnie figured he must have heard about tonight from the driver.

The man raised an eyebrow and held up the bidding sign. "Is no one going to bid against me? Six million!"

The crowd roared in excitement while the debutantes were shocked and amazed.

"Is that the hoodlum Winnie is hanging out with? He's so tall and handsome!"

The hoodlum's dapper appearance also took Lily aback. His refined demeanor clashed with the rumors she'd heard. However, recalling the club incident, she urged Mr. Daniel. "Didn't you see the mask? He must be incredibly ugly, a scar-faced man, a member of the underworld! Mr. Daniel, you must outbid him!"
