Chapter 713 Oscar

"What?" Lawrence's face went ice-cold.

The power was out for, like, three or four minutes tops. How did Ishara, a pregnant woman, bolt that fast?

Plus, she shouldn't even know the exits in this hospital; she just got dragged here, unless someone was showing her the way.

His eyes narrowed. Who the hell was helping her?

Was the power outage just now also part of someone's plan?

"Get her!" he barked at the bodyguards.

He stormed into the emergency exit. After going down two floors, he suddenly spotted Ishara's fleeing figure.

"Stop!" Lawrence yelled, his voice like ice.

Ishara's face went pale with fear, and she was trying to run out of the hospital.

Lawrence was about to charge after her when a small figure suddenly blocked his path in the misty night.

Under the streetlight, Lawrence looked down, his eyes widening in shock. He asked in a hoarse voice, "Oscar, is that you?"

The face was a dead ringer for Sidney's, but Oscar's expression was totally different.

His small face was calm, and his big, wise eyes were cold as he stared at Lawrence.

He wasn't dressed like Sidney and was carrying a computer bag, which Lawrence recognized.

Lawrence felt a lump in his throat and was totally confused. "Oscar, what are you doing here?"

More importantly, why was Oscar blocking him?

This made no sense to Lawrence.

Oscar didn't say a word. He turned back and frowned, seeing that Ishara had already run outside the hospital and was hailing a taxi.

When Lawrence tried another time, Oscar blocked his path again.

This time, Lawrence was almost sure.

Oscar was actually helping Ishara escape? Lawrence was bewildered, his heart sinking. He tried to keep his tone as gentle as possible. "Oscar, what are you doing?"

"As you can see," Oscar said, not giving anything away.

Lawrence stared hard at his small face and squatted down. "What I see is you messing with my plan to get Ishara an abortion."

"You can see it that way." Oscar pretended to be indifferent but was actually sighing heavily inside.

"Why?" Lawrence watched as Ishara successfully got into a taxi and fled away.

His tone got icier. "Do you know you're helping her? I don't even know if that kid is mine, but it doesn't matter. Ishara's keeping the kid for some shady reason. I can't let her have that over me. Oscar, why are you doing this? Tell me why."

"Why did you turn off all the lights in the building and guide Ishara to escape?" Lawrence questioned.

"Because that really is your kid, the kid you had with Winnie." Oscar seethed silently, unable to voice his thoughts at this moment. His small fists clenched tightly.

Lawrence looked at his pained and cold expression, like he was holding something back.

He slowly stepped forward, placing a large hand on his small shoulder. "Oscar, you're way smarter than Sidney and always have your own ideas about things. I know I've never been there for you, not even after you came back to the country. Later, for my distrust in your mom, I delayed rescuing you, leading to your disappearance. All of this is my fault. I'm sorry. I don't expect you to forgive me. You can be cold to me, you can refuse to acknowledge the Rodriguez Family, but you gotta give me a reason for this."

"Are you still under Ishara's control? Do you see her as family?" Lawrence said, filled with remorse, eyes bloodshot, deeply worried about Oscar's situation.

"I'm not," Oscar's heart was a storm of emotions.

Lawrence's words hit him hard.

He finally realized how wrong he had been.

His small heart ached, and his eyes flashed with a mix of hurt and stubbornness.

In the end, he regained some calmness, looking at Lawrence, contemplating the situation, and suddenly asked, "Can I trust you now?"

"What do you mean?" Lawrence was serious. Why was it so difficult to talk to Oscar?

Oscar gave a self-deprecating smile and swallowed the secret back down. "You're in a pretty sketchy situation right now."

"Clearly, you're not entirely trustworthy to me." Oscar continued.

"Do you want to tell me something but can't?" Lawrence's eyes were sharp.

"Yeah." Oscar's cute eyes hid something, forcing him to be cautious and helpless. "Regardless, if you intend to make her lose the baby, I will persist in opposing you. My actions are not for Ishara's sake."

"Better safer than sorry," Oscar added.

'What does that mean?' Lawrence was completely confused.

"What does this child have to do with you?" Lawrence asked, puzzled.

"Actually, it has something to do with me." Oscar impulsively said, "You don't want it, but it's a life. Once it's born, you'll see."

If he said it now, Lawrence would definitely drag Ishara for a paternity test, and Winnie would find out.

Besides, what if Lawrence would start another family in the future.

Maybe this baby can only be quietly raised by him. Oscar sighed in his heart, pressed his lips together, and gently pushed Lawrence away, turning to leave.

"Wait! Let me come with you, Oscar." Lawrence put aside many questions in his mind and immediately caught up, somewhat cautiously, fearing Oscar's rejection.

Oscar didn't say anything. Maybe to keep an eye on him to prevent him from going back to find Ishara, he didn't refuse the ride.

When the car stopped, Oscar got out without a word, carrying his small backpack.

"Oscar." Lawrence couldn't bear to see him go, his lips moved as he said hoarsely, "In the future, I wish to buy some stuff and toys for you. Would you be able to accept them?"

"You can send them, and I can refuse them." Oscar was still indifferent.

Lawrence's deep eyes dimmed.

Carrying his small backpack, Oscar walked into the villa without looking back.

Lawrence watched his back for a long time, feeling helpless.

Mending his relationship with Oscar would take time, as he was deeply indebted to him.

Lawrence returned to the car, his thoughts returning to the hospital and the strange things Oscar had said.

It all felt very odd.

Just then, Ray called, "I heard Ishara ran away?"

"Yeah." Lawrence replied.

"You had two bodyguards with you, how did she escape?" Ray asked.

Lawrence was brooding, "Do you have time? Let's grab a drink."

"Huh?" Ray was confused but agreed, "Alright, Bryan just got back today as well."

At the bar, Lawrence walked to the counter, and Ray frowned deeply, "What exactly happened?"

"It was Oscar who popped up, hacked into the hospital's power system, and let Ishara escape." Lawrence explained.

"Oscar?" Ray's eyes widened in disbelief, "I wasn't in Trento City before, so I don't know, but I heard from Jeremy that Oscar was brainwashed by Ishara. Could it be..."

"He said he wasn't." Lawrence added.

Oscar said he wasn't doing it for Ishara.

He was very calm at the time and said some strange words.
