Chapter 928 What's Between You Is a Rare Fate
"With all these misunderstandings, you just kept making them worse and worse."
"You two ended up like this because you're too scared to give love a real shot!"
"Enough! I tried before, but what happened? He lost his memory! He lost it all! My love felt like something I stole. Those three days of passion, that's all we had. Just one Lynn? Isn't one Lynn enough? Look at what they've done to my family! I'm a coward because I know that with Jeremy's indulgence, Lynn would never allow me a place. I feared this outcome, I'm fed up with her three years of torment, sick of all this scheming!"
Her words hit hard, bringing back memories of those three dark years.
Winnie, feeling her pain, hugged her to comfort her. "I'm sorry, Olivia. I'm not saying you're a coward in love. I know, in the three years I was gone, you hid with Mia, suffering from Darcy and the others' bullying. It changed you."
"Yeah, I've become useless. I hate myself! Because I have Mia and my elderly parents, who lost their home. Even though I seem carefree, my confidence has long been shattered."
In truth, Olivia felt inferior, too afraid to pursue someone like Jeremy. When she unexpectedly got pregnant, she kept it a secret, believing Mia was Sam's child, and didn't dare to be with Jeremy.
"Olivia..." Winnie silently vowed to help her rebuild her confidence.
She would help her find the fearless Olivia she once was.
It was simple, really. All they needed was just unravel Mia's true parentage.
Calming her emotions, Winnie took Olivia home and gave her the 'medicine,' reminding her, "You still need to follow the doctor's orders and stay in bed for a few days."
Olivia shook her head, her lashes lowered. "Sam must have been watching me today. He texted me, forcing me to get the marriage certificate with him tomorrow, and the wedding is set for three days later."
"So soon?"
"They only gave me half the antidote. My dad's life is hanging by a thread. I don't want to delay any longer. Getting the certificate is fine, as long as it saves my dad's life, I don't care.
I never expected to marry a good man anyway, and my life is already ruined." She forced a smile, her eyes cold with no hope for the future.
Winnie clenched her fists, raising an eyebrow. "Don't think like that, Olivia. And I warn you, don't foolishly think about ending your life on the wedding day. Some things might become clear by then!"
"What could possibly become clear?" Olivia scoffed, thinking her life was a series of tragic mistakes. "Now I only have two goals: ruin Lynn and ensure my dad gets a successful heart transplant."
Speaking of which.
Winnie made a mental note. "Mr. Smith will be fine. I'll have the hospital start looking for a heart for the transplant."
"Thank you, Winnie." Olivia wearily opened her laptop. "I've also placed an order on the black market. I just hope my dad wakes up soon."
"Once he takes the other half of the antidote, Mr. Smith will naturally recover."
So, the wedding had to proceed as a pretense.
Winnie sighed, glancing at her watch. "Olivia, get some rest. I have to go."
"You mentioned you had something to do this morning. What was it?" Olivia asked, looking at her.
Winnie smiled but dodged the question. "By the way, Mia seems to have followed Ray back to Lymington. Lena said Mia was really worried about you in Trento City, couldn't eat or sleep.
If she comes back tonight, don't be too hard on her."
"That girl! Why didn't she say anything?" Olivia anxiously tried to get up. "Where is she now? Why hasn't she come home?"
Winnie gently pushed her back down, fibbing, "Don't worry, Ray's taking her around. Your dad was just released this morning, and I thought it might not be good for Mia to see him right now, plus you're swamped."
Olivia didn't suspect anything, her mind preoccupied with the upcoming wedding. Her face turned pale as she bit her lip. "If she comes back now, how can I hide it from her? Mia will definitely make a scene, and she despises Sam!
Sam might have some scheme to publicly acknowledge her at the wedding, which would traumatize Mia. She hates Sam, she said she'd rather die than acknowledge him as her father!"
Winnie thought for a moment, then smiled faintly. "It might not come to that. Maybe Mia will find a better place. Her coming back now might not be a bad thing."
"What do you mean?" Olivia was confused.
Winnie just smiled, saying, "I mean, the wedding might not go as planned, so Sam won't have the chance to acknowledge his daughter. Don't you have a plan?"
Olivia thought for a moment, her face gray. True.
There would be a battle.
Leaving Olivia's house, Winnie drove to the Martin Villa.
Mia was sitting cross-legged in Ray's living room, playing with building blocks. Ray, a big, burly man, surprisingly had the patience to squat down and teach the child step by step.
"Mr. Martin." Winnie stood at the door, arms crossed, teasing Ray. "Getting old, are you starting to like kids?"
"Winnie, we're not that close, stop mocking me!"
Ray, not missing her sarcasm, stood up with a stern face. "Why are you so late? She's driving me crazy!"
"Mr. Martin, do you really dislike me that much?" Mia looked up with a pout, on the verge of tears.
"Mia, I didn't mean that," Ray explained gruffly.
Winnie walked over, amused. "Mia, Mr. Martin is just being contrary. Look, he got you these blocks to play with, didn't he? Don't be mad."
"These blocks are from the children's room upstairs, not something he bought. He's not that kind-hearted!" Mia revealed.
Ray's face darkened.
Winnie, however, glanced upstairs thoughtfully.
She remembered Laura had lived here. Though she had never been to the Martin Villa, she knew Ray and Laura's bedroom was on the second floor.
"Children's room?" Winnie felt a pang in her heart. Looking at Ray, she asked, "Did you buy these blocks? Did you know Laura was..."
"I didn't buy them. Actually, I found them in the children's room. Maybe... they were Laura's. She went through a phase where she insisted on setting up a children's room." Ray explained.
Seeing his clueless expression, Winnie wanted to slap him.
He didn't know? Didn't know Laura had been pregnant! What a terrible man.
