Chapter 901 He Will Not Submit
Louis sneered, his eyes turning icy. "You're just in your twenties! Do you think this is just the Smith Family stirring up trouble? They've exposed that Lynn was abandoned, and now there's a mob of reporters outside the hospital. Do you know who's behind this? It's Blake and the old enemies of the DeRoss Family! They want to shake up the business scene in Lymington. If I make one wrong move, I could end up in jail. And the DeRoss Family? They'll be torn apart by those lurking in the shadows."
Jeremy's expression hardened, his sharp features dark and cold in the dim light. Maybe he had underestimated the situation. He never expected Lynn's suicide attempt to be used by those who hated the DeRoss Family. Now, these people were waiting for the DeRoss Family to slip up so they could use Lynn against them. The Smith Family members were no saints; who knew if they would betray them?
Louis saw that Jeremy finally understood. He took a deep breath and tapped his cane. "I taught you that if you don't handle the small stuff, it'll ruin the big things! You need to settle down before you can build a career! How have things been with Lynn these past few years? If you didn't like her, you shouldn't have taken responsibility for her. If you had just given her some money back then, none of this would be happening now. I don't care who you like or which woman you have on the side. Marry her first, then deal with her later."
Louis was ruthless, showing no mercy towards Lynn. Jeremy pressed his lips together, his eyes hard. Marry Lynn and then deal with the Smith Family? No, he couldn't stand Lynn. He turned and opened the office door. Louis shouted, "Jeremy!"
"What, you want me to marry her? Shouldn't I check if she's dead first?" Jeremy looked back at Louis with a mocking smile.
Louis was taken aback. "Lynn isn't dead."
"So you knew it was all an act?" Jeremy sneered again.
Louis swallowed his anger as Jeremy's tall figure disappeared. He frowned, wondering what trouble Jeremy would cause if he forced him to marry. He knew his son well.
Lynn was wheeled out of the operating room, with the Smith Family members crying as they approached. The DeRoss Family members, however, remained still. Katerina frowned at Lynn's arm, wrapped in thick bandages with bright red blood seeping through. She had rushed to the hospital upon hearing about Lynn's suicide, expecting severe injuries. But it turned out to be just a cut on her arm. Seeing the reporters outside, Katerina's suspicion grew.
Just then, Jeremy stormed out of the office. Katerina immediately approached him. "How did it go with your father?"
"Not well, as you can guess," Jeremy replied coldly.
Katerina grabbed his arm. "Your father is stubborn. The DeRoss Family's reputation means everything to him. You should go and see Ms. Smith. She just came out of surgery; don't give people more to talk about."
Jeremy glanced at the crying Smith Family members and smirked. "I want to see which doctor dared to let her act in the operating room for so long. I've been away from Lymington for six months, and these doctors have gone mad, taking anyone's money!"
He shook off Katerina's hand and walked towards the doctor's office, not bothering to look at Lynn. Katerina could tell Jeremy was in a foul mood, and she feared several doctors would be in trouble.
Lynn was acting? Katerina frowned at the crying Smith Family members as they pushed Lynn into the ICU. The wound on Lynn's wrist didn't seem that severe. The Smith Family's claims earlier didn't match what she saw. Katerina sided with Jeremy, deciding not to visit the ICU. She knew Jeremy well; he was loyal and responsible. He wouldn't have broken off the engagement if Lynn hadn't crossed a line.
Katerina had heard that Lynn secretly returned to Lymington from Trento City two months ago, while Jeremy's fate was uncertain, and she was dating. Disgusted, Katerina turned away.
A maid supported her. "Mrs. DeRoss, are you leaving?"
"Find Jeremy. He's in a bad mood and probably argued with his father. Make sure he doesn't cause trouble with the doctors."
The maid nodded, wanting to ask if they should check on Lynn, but didn't dare. Katerina had her own temper, and even Louis didn't easily cross her.
Lynn's face was pale as she woke from anesthesia in the hospital room. "Mom, Dad, are you sure Jeremy is back? Why hasn't he come to see me?"
Noah replied, "He's back! He announced the end of your engagement as soon as he arrived, not caring about you in surgery. He wants to wash his hands of you. Luckily, you're smart. We blamed your suicide on him, claiming you were abandoned after a miscarriage. Louis looked furious. Jeremy is relentless, and I threatened to make a bigger scene. There are reporters outside. Even if Louis knows it's our scheme, he can't fix it. The DeRoss Family has too many enemies watching tonight's events!"
Lynn smirked coldly. She had gambled on this suicide attempt to force Jeremy to marry her. She feared Jeremy would marry Olivia, who was pregnant. So she struck first. But Jeremy was terrifying and ruthless. Would he compromise and marry her?
She asked worriedly, "What about Louis? Didn't you pressure him?"
