Chapter 689 She's Investigating You
"The Blanchet family has to hold a board meeting for every little decision. If you want to team up on real estate and finance, I'll push those forward. But don't expect it to be quick," Winnie explained.
Rock's brown eyes turned icy, and he nodded without a hint of emotion. "Got it. Thanks for the effort. Honestly, I want to be glued to you, Winnie, but I'm still a bit uneasy."
"Quit talking nonsense. We're already family. I'm off to work now," Winnie said.
"Okay."
The car door shut, and the warm smile vanished from Rock's elegant face.
He stared hard at Winnie's back, thinking about the call he got from Jesse that morning.
'Mr. Harrington, Lawrence got a serious beating last night, but then Winnie showed up and saved him. She's your wife, so I kept quiet. Don't worry, I didn't spill anything about you!'
Rock's eyes darkened.
'No wonder she wasn't home when I got back from the club at one in the morning. So she saved Lawrence and even got a room with him. They're still tangled up. She's playing me again. Winnie, that damn bitch,' he thought.
Rock wiped his lips grimly and started the car. On the way, he texted Sierra: [Go to the rest area in my office. Don't wear any clothes, and wait for me.]
He needed to blow off some steam with Sierra; otherwise, he couldn't handle this rage.
But just as he was about to reach the Harrington Group building, his phone rang.
"Mr. Harrington, looks like someone's tailing you," said the voice on the other end, someone who worked for Rock.
Rock, caught off guard, asked, "Who's following me? How long has this been going on?"
"Seems like a detective sent by the Jenkins family. The guy's careful and professional. If I hadn't been watching from the start, I might not have noticed."
"Bentley?" Rock frowned, puzzled. "I have no beef with him. Why would he follow me?"
The subordinate was also puzzled but cautiously added, "Mr. Harrington, Mr. Jenkins seems to be getting close to Ms. Anderson lately."
Rock's eyes narrowed sharply.
He remembered seeing Bentley and Winnie chatting a lot at the Blanchet Group recently.
"Alright, I get it." Rock's gaze turned cold and calculating.
A cold smile crept onto his lips as he thought, 'Looks like Winnie got Bentley to investigate me. Otherwise, Bentley, who has no connection with me, has no reason to follow me. Is she suspicious of something? No way. I've always been super careful. Where did I slip up? I need to squash her suspicions about me, fast.'
Rock made another call to Sierra, saying in a dark tone, "Don't go to the office. Stay away from me for a while; Winnie's getting suspicious."
Sierra was in the middle of changing into a sexy camisole, her joy suddenly deflated. She couldn't help but angrily say, "Rock, what are you scared of? Let her be suspicious. She's not pure herself! Not divorcing her is already a huge favor. What can she do to you?"
"You don't get it," Rock snapped impatiently.
Sierra clenched her dress, her face full of grievance from his scolding, hating Winnie deeply in her heart.
She choked back her tears and softly said, "I just feel it's not worth it for you to be so cautious and pleasing to Winnie. With your current status in Trento City, why do you need to do this?"
"My current status in Trento City?" Rock sneered, his eyes dark and deep. "Just a lackey by Ronnie's side."
Sierra knew this; Rock worked for Ronnie and relied on the Peterson family to get where he was.
But she couldn't help but wonder, 'Ronnie's the richest guy in Veridiania. Rock being his right-hand man makes him one of the top dogs in Veridiania, right? Could it be that Rock isn't happy just being under Ronnie?'
This thought flashed through her mind, and Sierra shivered.
Rock was a man with deep schemes.
"Women are shallow; there are things you just don't get. Sierra, remember, don't let Winnie know about us! I still have a lot of use for her."
With that, Rock hung up without a second thought.
Sierra frowned, puzzled.
'Is he planning to use Winnie against Lawrence? But isn't Lawrence's reproductive organ ruined? Could it be for the Blanchet family, or does Winnie have some other significant background? Rock sure wants a lot.' Sierra's eyes slowly turned cold as she thought.
Winnie, as the eldest daughter of the Blanchet family, had a clear status. Rock hated Winnie, but his ambition couldn't be stopped. While torturing her, he might also want to get the Blanchet family.
Sierra knew she couldn't wait any longer!
'Now Rock treats me as just a lover, calling me when he wants and dismissing me when he doesn't. Why should I be beneath Winnie, a lover who can't be with Rock openly? Today he tells me to hide, what about tomorrow? I've been monitoring my ovulation, trying to have Rock's child as soon as possible, and I also have to let Winnie know about Rock's affairs. But Rock has already warned me. If I can't do it openly, then I'll do it secretly. If I can't directly target Winnie, I'll start with the people around her. Doesn't Winnie have a few good friends?' she thought.
Sierra quickly found a detective online, and within two hours, she had locked onto Olivia, who lived in Winnie's house.
A gleam flashed in her eyes as she decided to use Olivia to pass the message.
In the hotel suite,
Lawrence was awakened by the sound of a phone ringing. He opened his eyes and found himself lying in the bathroom.
'Where am I?' he thought.
His long hand reached for the phone in his pocket. Enduring the throbbing pain in his head, he answered the call.
On the other end, Ray's deep voice came through, "Lawrence, did that Jesse beat you up?"
Lawrence's handsome face was confused, and he suddenly realized he was in pain. Some chaotic fragments flashed blankly in his mind. He remembered drinking too much at the bar last night.
He was later beaten in an alley. At first, he resisted, but then the person said something.
It immediately made him lose all strength.
"So it was that Jesse," Lawrence muttered coldly.
"How could you get so drunk?" Ray said helplessly. "Now everyone in Trento City is talking about how you got beat up in an alley and couldn't even fight back. I guess it was Jesse who spread the news to embarrass you! Aren't there enough issues with the Rodriguez family already? If you create more scandalous news, those investors won't even consider the Rodriguez Group."
Lawrence's brows furrowed, his deep eyes icy.
Ray sharply asked, "Do you remember anything from last night?"
