Chapter 744 He's Dead

"The explosion happened in a split second. Who could've seen that coming? I heard from the villa's staff that they saw a guy and a girl walk into the greenhouse. There's a terrace inside where guests can smoke or get some fresh air, and it even has an elevator. If they were stuck in the elevator when it blew up, just imagine—the noise was so loud it shook me," Bentley said. "Mr. King turned pale. A perfectly good party turned into a disaster. The firefighters and doctors are still on their way, but the people inside probably didn't make it. I called because I was worried you might've gone into the greenhouse. Good thing you left after the party."

Winnie listened, stunned, and for some reason, she instinctively thought of Lawrence.

She had left, wondering if Lawrence had left the King Family's place too.

She remembered Lawrence saying he came to the party just to see her.

Could he have gone into that greenhouse? He does have a habit of smoking.

The thought flashed through her mind, and Winnie's face turned pale.

"I gotta go, people here are freaking out. Since you left, that's good." Bentley hung up.

Winnie silently clenched her phone.

Rock looked over, worried, and asked, "Winnie, why do you look so upset?"

"Mr. Jenkins just called. There was a sudden explosion in the greenhouse at The King Family villa. He thought I was inside," Winnie replied, looking concerned.

Rock's eyes flashed with something, and he said worriedly, "Was anyone in the greenhouse?"

"A man and a woman, probably guests from tonight," Winnie answered absentmindedly. "I don't know who was trapped inside, but the fire rescue hasn't arrived yet. No one dares to go to the explosion site. I heard there's an elevator, probably trapping them completely."

Rock caught the detail about a man and a woman, and his face changed instantly.

He squinted subtly but kept his expression calm as he sighed, "How could such an accident happen?"

Winnie blurted out, "Rock, can you stop the car?"

"What's wrong?" Rock frowned and gave Winnie a meaningful glance.

Winnie made up an excuse, "I just realized I left my handbag at The King Manor. Besides, Mr. Jenkins is still there. He called to check on me, and as a friend, I want to go back and be with him."

"Alright." Rock gave her a deep look, his thin lips curling sarcastically.

Rock knew she was making an excuse to go back, wanting to see if it was Lawrence.

In Rock's eyes, Lawrence was probably dead now.

Lawrence would never be an obstacle between them again.

Rock turned the car around.

Five minutes later, the car stopped at the gate of The King Manor. At that moment, Winnie suddenly received a text message from Bentley.

She wondered why Bentley didn't call.

But the content of the text made her eyes widen: [Winnie, I have bad news for you.]

Winnie's heart trembled violently, almost afraid that her guess was true, not daring to read further.

She held her breath and looked down: [I checked the security footage. It was Lawrence who walked into the greenhouse elevator from the second floor. After the explosion, the elevator fell to the first floor, and all the glass shattered.]

Winnie fell silent, astonished by the fact that Lawrence walked into the greenhouse during the explosion. The speculation of Lawrence's death coursed through her mind, making her disbelieve the message.

Two hours ago, he had cornered her in the study, kissing her passionately.

Her lips still carried Lawrence's cool yet burning breath, and her ears echoed with his deep, sexy voice—sometimes laughing, sometimes serious. And the way he looked at her with such deep affection.

Winnie felt like her heart was being squeezed by several hands, suffocating her, her vision going blank.

Her hand holding the phone trembled uncontrollably.

She hated Lawrence, hated him so much.

Yet, hearing about his actual death, she found herself utterly bewildered and frantic, with even her breathing tinged with pain.

The phone kept vibrating.

Bentley: [Winnie, are you okay?]

She typed with trembling hands: [Are you sure it's him?]

Bentley: [The security footage doesn't lie. He went in first, then Mr. Harper's daughter followed. After that, the greenhouse exploded violently! Not just people, the entire second floor was blown to pieces. There's no way he survived.]

Winnie stared hard at those words, her pupils dilating in disbelief.

At this moment, Rock parked the car. He had also received the news that Samuel's daughter was killed in the explosion.

His eyes widened instantly; the death of Samuel's daughter was beyond Rock's anticipation.

However, he did not directly partake in this affair; at most, he provided a suggestion. Even if Adam and his team investigate, they won't be able to trace it back to him.

Although it was a pity that Samuel's daughter died.

But as long as Lawrence was dead, it didn't matter to him.

Rock glanced at the pale-faced Winnie beside him, his lips curling coldly.

Rock believed that she must have heard from Bentley about Lawrence's death.

Winnie had promised Rock that she no longer loved Lawrence, but seeing her sad expression now, it was clear she wasn't as carefree as she claimed.

She disembarked and rushed inside on her own, without seeking Rock's permission.

Rock's eyes flashed with jealousy and hatred.

Winnie ran towards The King Manor. At this moment, firefighters and ambulances were also rushing to the scene.

In the dark night, the two-story greenhouse next to the main building was still ablaze, with debris from the explosion scattered everywhere, the whole scene terrifying.

All the guests were gathered in the front yard of the main building, the bright lights from the hall illuminating the area.

Bentley saw Winnie returning and asked, "Why did you come back?"

"Did they find his body?" Winnie asked painfully, her whole being in a daze.

"The firefighters just arrived. They need to completely extinguish the fire before they can search for bodies." Bentley saw her trembling voice and pressed her cold shoulder, sighing with mixed emotions, "Winnie, you need to stay strong."

"Why should I stay strong?" Winnie suddenly laughed blankly, her expression uncontrollably pale, "He's just an ex-husband, why should I care if he's dead? I should be happy. He hurt me so much for Darcy and Ishara, made me so sad, I wished he would die sooner, he deserved it." As she spoke, her voice grew weaker.

Finally, a hint of red filled her once calm eyes, her expressionless face now showing a trace of pain. She choked up, trying hard to suppress her emotions.

She didn't know what was wrong with her.

At that moment, she felt as though a vast emptiness had settled within her heart. It was as if she couldn't breathe, and even her legs trembled uncontrollably.

She wished everything in front of her was just a dream.

"Winnie, stop it," Bentley said gently. "Look at you. You're heartbroken."

"I'm not…" she sobbed. "I just…"
