Chapter 726 Lawrence Picked Her Up

"The doc said we can leave, but Sidney was just crying for you, so we hung around," Lawrence said, standing up and handing over Sidney's little body. "Can you hold him for a bit? I'll grab the car."

Winnie took Sidney into her arms right away. He'd put on some weight recently, thanks to her care. She pressed her cheek to his forehead and felt his temperature was normal. His fever must've broken.

She finally felt relieved.

"Sidney," Winnie kissed his cheek.

Sidney, feeling all cozy, snuggled into Winnie's shoulder, pretending to be asleep.

But once they got in the car, Sidney really did fall asleep.

The clean Range Rover rolled out of the hospital, with the city's neon lights flickering through the windows. The autumn wind was chilly, but inside the car, it was warm and toasty.

Lawrence glanced in the rearview mirror. He watched Winnie gently holding Sidney as he slept. Worried her long hair might brush Sidney's face, she carefully tucked it behind her ear, showing off her slender neck. She had this soft, gentle vibe.

Lawrence's gaze deepened as he found the scene beautiful and peaceful.

He wished he could freeze this moment forever.

If he could, he'd spend the rest of his life with her, even if it meant going to hell after.

But his current health didn't allow for that.

After half an hour, the Range Rover pulled up to Lawrence's two-story villa.

Winnie was puzzled, "Didn't Sidney say he was staying with Leah? Why didn't you take him there?"

Lawrence answered honestly, "He stayed there for a few days, but my grandma's place is pretty far. I've been taking care of Sidney these past few days, so we stayed at a nearby villa."

He parked the car and, with his long legs, walked over to open the door and take Sidney. "Let me carry him. He's getting heavier, and your arms might hurt if you hold him too long."

Winnie stayed quiet, standing in the night wind, frowning. "Since Sidney's asleep, you should take him inside to change his clothes. I'll head out."

She had already moved into Rock's villa and decided to live with him. Being alone with Lawrence didn't seem right.

Lawrence narrowed his eyes, feeling helpless. "But the doc said Sidney's fever might come back. And what if his car accident wounds get infected? I don't know how to bandage them. What should I do then?"

Winnie stopped, glaring at him.

After a while, she had no choice but to agree. After all, she was a doctor, and seeing Sidney would ease her mind.

Reluctantly, she followed Lawrence into the house.

Upstairs, Lawrence placed Sidney on the master bedroom's big bed. Winnie fetched water to wash Sidney's face and hands.

Lawrence watched her gently. "Winnie, you should sleep in the room next door. I'll watch over him."

"What good is that? Didn't you say you don't even know how to bandage wounds?" Winnie shot Lawrence a cold look. "Leave the thermometer and fever meds here. You go sleep in the next room. I'll watch over him."

Lawrence didn't dare argue, fearing she might leave.

He nodded and turned to go.

Winnie glanced around Lawrence's spacious bedroom. It was decorated in his usual minimalist and cold style, with no trace of a woman's touch. But that wasn't the point. The point was, even if she was dead tired, she couldn't sleep here.

Frustrated, she noticed there wasn't even a sofa in the room. Was Lawrence doing this on purpose?

She had no choice but to squat by the bed. During this time, she sent a text to Rock: [Rock, I won't be coming back tonight. I have to work late at the company, so I'll sleep here.]

After sending the text, she felt a pang of guilt.

She felt like a woman sneaking out for the night behind her husband's back.

Yet, when she gazed upon Sidney's slumbering little face, her maternal sense of duty kicked in again. She simply couldn't bear the thought of Sidney being hurt in her absence.

As she sat there, a wave of drowsiness hit her, and she leaned against the bed, drifting into sleep.

After a while, just as she was about to fall asleep, the master bedroom door creaked open.

Lawrence's steady footsteps entered.

Winnie's eyelashes fluttered, and she woke up immediately but kept her eyes closed to avoid awkwardness.

After all, it was just the two of them. What could she say to Lawrence?

And why did he come in?

Annoyed, Winnie was lost in thought when Lawrence's imposing figure, exuding a sense of pressure, stopped in front of her.

Then, a pair of large hands lifted her horizontally.

He carried her over Sidney and placed her on the other side of the bed.

Startled, Winnie opened her eyes, about to scold him, but saw Lawrence kneeling beside her. His warm body radiated a masculine scent, making her feel a bit numb and slow to react.

By the time she realized it, Lawrence's hand was already unbuttoning her shirt.

Winnie's mind went blank. She stared for two seconds before grabbing his hand, furious. "Lawrence, what are you doing?"

"You're not asleep?" Lawrence's long eyelashes fluttered, his slender fingers pausing on her shirt button.

His eyes were deep and low, his voice slightly hoarse. "I thought you were asleep. You're wearing so much, and the room has a thermostat. I was worried you'd get too hot, so I was helping you..."

"Helping? Who asked for your help?" Winnie faltered, looking at his handsome face above her. Her face turned uncontrollably red as she slapped his hand away. "You seem used to undressing women. You don't even ask for permission before touching others."

Lawrence's deep eyes looked at her, and in the dim light, they seemed like a mesmerizing vortex, too deep to fathom.

After a moment of silence, he propped his arm beside her, gazing at her angry face, and chuckled. "Winnie, your reaction makes me think you're jealous. I've never undressed anyone else. From start to finish, I've only undressed you."

"Stop it!" Winnie, annoyed, pushed him. "Let me get up."

"It's late. You should sleep on this bed. The way you were just now; you'll get a stiff neck." Lawrence's dark eyes lingered on her fair face and neck, his Adam's apple moving involuntarily.

Winnie noticed it and felt extremely awkward.

Wasn't he supposed to be impotent? Why did he look as if he has desire?

"I refuse to sleep," she said irritably. "And I definitely won't sleep in your bed."

"How many times have you already shared my bed?" Lawrence blurted out, his voice slightly hoarse. He raised an eyebrow, trying to control himself, but in this rare moment of solitude, facing her, a strong sense of intimacy and desire still showed in his eyes.

Winnie felt her cheeks heat up from his intense gaze.
