Chapter 198 Determining the Engagement Date.

"I said that the divorce matter was intentionally leaked by her to those bosses. You'll know if you investigate!" Winnie felt disappointed in him.

He didn't investigate and unconditionally believed Darcy based on her words alone. Darcy tightened her grip on his hand, thinking of something. She coldly smirked at Winnie and said,

"L, I was wrong. That day, I had a conversation with Ray and accidentally told him about the divorce agreement between you and me. Perhaps he..." Lawrence R understood and took out his phone, calling Ray on speaker.

In front of Winnie, Ray answered the call and Lawrence R asked coldly, "Did Darcy tell you about me signing the divorce agreement that day? Did you tell anyone afterwards?" Ray hesitated for a moment and then said,

"I had a few drinks and might have accidentally mentioned it. You can't blame Darcy for this. My voice was loud at the time, and a few people passing by might have heard..."

Lawrence R hung up, coldly looking at Winnie. "Are you satisfied now? Darcy never revealed our divorce. It was Ray, don’t falsely accuse her!" Winnie seriously doubted his intelligence in this moment.

He could be so ruthless in the business world, but why did he act like a fool in these matters? It was obvious that Ray was Darcy's pursuer, so he would definitely help her.

Darcy was cunning too, revealing it to Ray to create a connection. That night, everyone at the scene knew about their divorce. No one spread the news, so it wouldn't be known so quickly by others!

Darcy continued to play the victim, saying with a hint of grievance,

"L, Miss Anderson has been targeting me all this time. Perhaps she still hasn't given up. I also wanted to tell you that my birthday is at the end of February. Today, my parents called again, hoping that we could engage soon. They worry that I won't live long..."

"Darcy, that won't happen," Lawrence R frowned, trying to reassure her.

With tears in her eyes, Darcy pleaded, "L, I really hope that we can get engaged on my birthday. Can you promise me that? I've given everything to you. I hope it's not in vain. Can't you pity me?"

She used mercy as a means of manipulation to make Lawrence R think about everything she had done for him, both four years ago and now, four years later.

Lawrence R's eyebrows furrowed, unable to see through his dark pupils. His cold and stern eyes almost instinctively glanced at Winnie. Surprisingly, he cared about Winnie's reaction. He wanted to see her walk over and hug him, to stop him.

He wanted to see even a bit of fear and concern in her eyes. But Winnie was struck by Darcy's words and forgot to react. Her heart grew cold, and she stared blankly at Lawrence R, seeing that he didn't refuse.

The next moment, she fell into the abyss. Finally, she understood why Darcy had called her here today. Lawrence R waited for a long time, but Winnie didn't try to stop him. She remained cold and indifferent, seeming not to care. The man lowered his head, forcing a bitter smile.

"Alright, it can be on your birthday..." Lawrence finally conceded.
"That day, let's consider it as a birthday gift."

Darcy couldn't believe it. She held the man's large hand and exclaimed ecstatically, "L, did you really agree?"

Lawrence R glanced at Winnie disdainfully and smiled. "I also agreed to spend Valentine's Day watching a movie with you. Let's go."

"L, you're so good to me!" Darcy knew he was deliberately provoking Winnie. She snuggled up to Lawrence R and smiled at the stunned Winnie. "Miss Anderson, please bring me my high heels."

Winnie didn't move.

Lawrence R's anger grew, and he coldly said, "Are you not going to bring them to her?"
He used the same tone when giving orders to the servants at the mansion which made Winnie’s place obvious, slightly stunning Winnie for a brief moment.

Her heart was pierced by his words a moment ago, "getting engaged on your birthday as a birthday gift," she ached inside.

It seemed that he really wanted a divorce. Winnie, do you still want to save him? She reflected inwardly. He may not be reachable anymore. As Rock had said, his heart may no longer have you in it.

Winnie felt a moment of despair wash over her, desperately concealing the tears in her eyes, unwilling to let them show.

She numbly took out the pair of high heels, held her painful belly, and threw them in front of Darcy's bed before silently turning to walk away.

"Stop!" came the command from behind her.

Lawrence R stared at her hunched shoulders and indifferent profile, feeling both frustrated and uneasy. "Did I tell you to leave?" he challenged her.

Darcy smirked, purposely saying, "L, why don't we take Miss Anderson with us to the movie? Miss Anderson knows medicine, and in case I feel unwell, she can take care of me, right, Miss Anderson?"

Luke, standing at the door, frowned at such humiliation and felt sorry for Winnie. He had wanted to say a few words for her.

But Mr. L, for some reason, said, "Then let her serve you!"
Luke massaged his temple; Mr. L, you obviously don't mean that! Why intentionally provoke Mrs. L? Looking at the woman, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.

"L, you truly love me," Darcy leaned against the man.

Lawrence R helped Darcy walk out of the ward and personally drove them to the movie theater. Luke could only comply with the order and bring Winnie along.

Inside the cinema, with a wave of the man's hand, Luke arranged for a private screening.
Darcy had fantasized about this scene countless times, and it finally came true.

Winnie probably had never watched a movie with L! As they were about to enter, Luke hesitated and said,

"The resting area outside doesn't have heating. Mr. L, Miss Anderson is pregnant. It might be better if she joins us inside to watch the film..."

"No need," Winnie, who had been indifferent all along, finally spoke.

L sneered, "Darcy, let's go in. Let the others wait and not disturb us."

Winnie clenched her fists tightly. She was scratching her nails until they bled. Looking at his back as he embraced Darcy entering the venue, she felt completely different inside.

They couldn't even watch a movie together during the most affectionate moments. She had expected it, thinking there would be plenty of opportunities in the future, and indeed, there were opportunities, but the person by his side had already changed.

At the end of the month, they were getting engaged. There seemed to be an invisible force pushing her back into the corner. Luke noticed her struggling to stand and quickly tried to support her.

He faintly saw Mrs. L's eyes turning completely red. Luke felt distressed at the sight of Winnie,

"Mrs. L, Mr. L agreed to the engagement. I believe there's some resentment behind it, but as time passes, it may fade away..."

Will time really heal everything? Will her enduring humiliation make him change his mind?
Winnie was uncertain. She forced a smile, "I'm fine, I need some fresh air outside."

After leaving the cinema and calming her mind for a moment, she remembered that she had a purpose for coming out tonight, not just to serve Darcy.

She quickly sent a text message from her phone. Unable to bear with the peculiar findings in Madam Rodriguez's blood which she examined, she thought of someone who could help her—
