Chapter 228 Rock was arrested.
He immediately knelt down and said, “Call a doctor, quickly, get me a doctor.”
"My darling!" Madam Harrington wailed.
Winnie stood by the side, while numerous people rushed in. She felt a coldness in her limbs, at a loss and wanting to provide first aid.
Suddenly, Madam Harrington pushed her away, filled with hatred, "Get away from me, I don't care how you've convinced Rock, you need to leave here immediately!"
"Mother, this has nothing to do with her. Someone wanted to ruin our engagement ceremony today, you can't fall for it."
"Do you still dare to protect this imposter who is pretending to be a member of our Harrington family with an illegitimate child? Do you want to infuriate me to the point of death?” Madam Rodriguez, whose health was also not good, immediately spat out blood.
“Mother” Rock exclaimed.
"Rock, stop talking. It's all my fault, I've caused trouble. Quickly take them to the hospital." Winnie was surrounded by a chilling mist, her heart like stagnant water, suffocation engulfing her.
Rock called for a doctor and hurriedly sent his parents off in an ambulance. He quickly dismissed the shareholders and threatened the media to hand over the photos that had just been taken. However, some media outlets had already spread the news online.
Winnie was driven away by the Harrington family, not allowed to enter the hospital or accompany Rock in taking care of the elders. She had no choice but to be escorted back to Rock's villa by his bodyguard.
She was in the villa, from noon until the evening, when Rock returned. Laura and Olivia breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly asked him, "How are your parents doing?"
Rock looked at Winnie. "Don't hide it from me, please don't hide it from me," Winnie pleaded.
"My mother had a heart attack, but it's not too serious. My father has a history of heart disease, and this time he had a heart attack and is now in the intensive care unit."
Winnie took several steps back, unable to describe the anguish she felt in that moment.
"It has already happened, don't blame yourself, Winnie." Rock finally walked over, furrowing his brows as he held her cold hand. "But that photo, what really happened? You and him a week ago. How could you leave such a big scandal in his hands?"
"I'm sorry, Rock!" Winnie deeply covered her face. The photo was her own undoing.
She could never have imagined that Lawrence R would even obtain a paternity test, possibly from her previous prenatal check-ups, leaving behind a sample. He was too ruthless, willing to destroy her publicly at any cost, clearly he didn’t considering her to be a person.
She bit her teeth, leaving traces of blood. Suddenly, the door of the villa was knocked. The Harrington family's butler went to open the door but was startled by a police officer with a gun and handcuffs.
Having experienced many big situations and being able to keep calm, the butler maintained his composure and immediately ran over to whisper in Rock's ear, "Mr. Harrington! There are police officers outside, saying they've come to arrest you?!"
Rock's expression paused, his gaze becoming fierce, he sneered and said, "It seems someone wants to destroy my family completely. Come, let's go and see."
Winnie's face, already having changed upon hearing this, followed closely behind Rock, walking to the front door. Rock recognized the police officers outside, smiled, and handed them two cigarettes.
He calmly said, "I wonder what mistakes the Harrington Group, and I personally, have made recently to warrant Chief Ding coming personally? No problem, I'll give Mr. Young a call."
Mr. Young was the person Rock had arranged to control Lymington. The Harrington Group's influence in Lymington was completely dominant. Chief Ding wiped off a sweat. If he had heard Rock say this before, he would have been terrified.
But now, he could only smile along and nervously say, "Mr. Harrington, please don't trouble us, but... this time, an arrest warrant has been issued. It’s from the highest level in Trento City. Your company is not in trouble, but as a member of the committee, you have been suspended.”
He hurried on, “There have been recent corruption cases within the committee, and the military in Trento City wants a thorough investigation. You must go to Trento City to cooperate with the interrogation."
Rock narrowed his eyes, remaining silent for a long time, and a coldness appeared in his gaze.
Eventually, handcuffs were brought out and placed on his hands. He didn’t resist.
"Rock, how did it come to this?" Winnie panicked, grabbing his wrist. "What exactly happened that led to your arrest? How can I help you?"
Rock comforted Winnie, "I'm fine, don't worry. Just wait for me at home and don't go anywhere"
He was quickly taken away in a police car, which departed coldly into the night. The butler of the Harrington family made dozens of hurried phone calls. Within two hours, many people came to Rock's house, but in the end, they all shook their heads and left.
Winnie wasn't naive; she could tell that they were all important officials in Lymington. Even they couldn't help him.
"Butler, do you have anyone else you can contact for help?" Winnie asked.
"Who would dare to go against Mr. Harrington? Don't you understand? We've tried contacting everyone we could. If it were useful, Young Master wouldn't have gone with them just now. In my opinion, it's all your fault, Miss Anderson. You're nothing but trouble.”
The butler didn’t hold back on his thoughts. “Mr. Harrington has been taken to Trento City, and the old master is still in the intensive care unit waiting for him. The Harrington family can't lose its pillar at a time like this. Do you understand?"
Winnie knew. She was overwhelmed with worry and her face turned pale. She knew. In fact, she also knew who she should go to for help. This wasn't the first time she knew such despair, but this time, it made her feel closer to the brink, falling into the darkness of the abyss.
There was a hole of hatred in her heart. She hated herself, for the way she had provoked such a heartless devil in the first place! He wielded the power of men with no thoughts of what it would do to them.
Clasping her fingers tightly, she hurriedly put on a coat over her dress and said to Laura Olivia, "I'm going out."
"It's already dark. Where are you going?" Olivia asked knowingly, her eyes turning red. "Don't go looking for him!"
"Rock can't be arrested in Trento City because of me. The Harrington family can't fall apart because of me."
"You stay right there! He's obviously trying to force you. Let's think of a way. I know, I'll contact Ray, Laura can contact Jeremy, let's give it a try. "
Winnie sneered, "Even with all of Lymington's power, Rock can't resist him. Just think of his methods, Olivia. I don't want you to become the target of his anger. I don't want to hurt anymore innocent people!"
She had acted rashly, thinking she could start over. But he never thought of letting her go. In the muddy pool of love and hatred, she didn't have a chance to grow wings. She couldn’t escape and he wouldn’t let her, inevitably falling back into the depths of the mud...on her own.
Olivia helplessly pulled her aside and handed her a watch, saying, “I have modified this. It Is able to be used for communication and I can tracking you as well. It’s just a precaution, just in case, Winnie, you should have it. I’m afraid he will give you a hard time!”
Winnie nodded and turned to dial Luke's number. Soon, a car appeared outside Rock's villa.
Two bodyguards stood by, one on each side, watching her as she got into the car. Winnie looked expressionless at the rearview mirror and revealed a sinister smile, showing her gleaming white teeth.
"Is he happy?"
“Mrs. L”…"
"Don't call me that! And you, are you an accomplice?"
"I..." Luke stammered. It was all she needed to know. Silence ensued during the journey. In the chilling night, Winnie was taken to an apartment.
As she entered, there were no lights inside, only the lights from countless households outside, shimmering and reflecting behind him. He sat elegantly on the sofa, resting one hand on the edge of the sofa, with a cigarette between his fingers.
He tilted his head slightly, examining her as if a predator had caught its dying prey and also like an emperor, contemptuously looking down upon the world he could control.
"Are you satisfied now, Lawrence R.?" She walked to the center of the carpet and chuckled softly. "My engagement ceremony was ruined, the old Mr. Harrington had a heart attack and is in the hospital, Rock was arrested and taken to Trento City."
Her tone took a menacing tone as she asked again, "I'm asking you, are you satisfied?!"
