Chapter 730 The NexaCore Group's Banquet
In the morning, Lawrence drove to the company.
On the way, he got an unexpected stop from Bentley, who had just come back from abroad.
Lawrence stepped out of the car, his long legs stretching, and told Bentley, "Your Melanie's doing well in the hospital. Winnie's been taking good care of her."
"I know that. Mr. Rodriguez, I'm here to ask about the task I gave you. How's it going?" Bentley squinted and offered him a cigarette.
Lawrence glanced at it but didn't take it. He remembered the night Ishara escaped, and his face turned cold. "Sorry, I messed up. But I'll find another way to get her to talk."
Bentley lit the cigarette himself and suddenly asked, "Has Ishara found a new backer recently? Not Mars. He's too slick to let her use him. She's been laying low for the past couple of days, like someone's got her back. Also, I went to the police station this morning. They closed Melanie's case quickly, saying a dog did it. You buy that? Someone's helping Ishara, and they're stepping on my toes."
Lawrence listened, his eyes narrowing.
For a moment, the name Oscar popped into his mind, but he dismissed it. Oscar cared about the kid Ishara was carrying and couldn't sway the police.
So, who was helping Ishara?
Thinking about the trouble Ishara was still causing, Lawrence felt a wave of irritation. "I don't have time to deal with her right now. If you're so concerned, look into it yourself. Ishara's our common enemy. I'm worried she'll mess with Winnie, and you're worried she'll go after Melanie again, right?"
Bentley paused, not expecting the down-and-out Lawrence to still challenge him.
Bentley glared at Lawrence and nodded, "Fine, I was going to give you an invite to the NexaCore Group chairman's housewarming at Camellia Mount. Someone like you wouldn't get an invite otherwise! But now, it seems unnecessary." He turned hostile just like that.
Lawrence pressed his lips together, wanting to change his words, but Bentley didn't give him the chance. He got into his car angrily and left.
Bryan blinked at Lawrence, gently reminding him, "Mr. Rodriguez, you need to remember you and Mr. Jenkins aren't on equal footing anymore. It wouldn't hurt to try and stay on his good side. He can be… temperamental."
"He's deliberately making things hard for me! Forget it, do I really need his invite to get in?" Lawrence said disdainfully, his face dark.
Bryan was speechless. Didn't he get that without that invite, he wouldn't even be allowed into Camellia Mount?
However, upon arriving at the company, Lawrence was immediately confronted with a harsh dose of reality.
Anday hurried over to ask him, "Lawrence, I heard the Jenkins Family has a good relationship with a certain senator and got several invites to the NexaCore Group chairman's party! Weren't you in contact with Mr. Jenkins recently? He's the only one you can rely on now. So, did he give you an invite?"
Lawrence's face darkened with a little anger.
What did she mean, his only hope? Was she blind? Bentley used to be nothing compared to him.
However, Lawrence indeed didn't get an invite.
Lawrence said, "Anday, I'll figure something out."
"There's no other way. You can't just sneak in! The NexaCore Group chairman is a big deal, and security will be airtight. Our family is already on shaky ground. We can't afford another scandal," Anday said, looking worried.
Just then, Bob walked in, mocking, "I never thought the day would come when the Rodriguez Family would be begging for an invitation! People used to be clawing their way onto our guest lists. Times change. Still, we can't just gate-crash. I'll reach out to the family who bought the Rodriguez estate. I heard Adam sent invitations to every prominent family in Camellia Mount. If we can get a foot in the door there, we'll be on the list."
"That's a good idea," Anday said. "But Bob, hasn't that mysterious buyer always refused to meet you?"
"Let's try again," Bob said, looking at Lawrence. "Lawrence, I've already had someone submit the Rodriguez Group's info to the NexaCore Group. I heard the Peterson Group did the same. This time, Adam is hosting the party, and all competitors want to meet him. If you can catch his eye, the Rodriguez Family will have a chance. But your reputation has been tarnished by the Peterson Group. I'm worried that Adam, being new here, might believe their lies and look down on us."
"Dad, stop worrying. I'll talk to Adam in person when the time comes. I count on a chairman of such a large financial group not being easily deceived."
Bob glanced at him, "I wonder if your blind arrogance is good or bad, given our current state."
"Yeah, given our current state, what do we have to lose? Ronnie has everything now. They're the ones who are afraid of falling from the top," Lawrence said with a casual, cold smile.
The arrogance and steadiness in his expression left Bob and Anday stunned.
After everyone left, Anday couldn't believe it and asked Bob, "Bob, what's gotten into Lawrence? He seems to have regained his confidence. He was so down before. Could it be that he's in contact with Winnie again?"
Bob frowned, showing his disbelief.
Bob realized that if Lawrence could only regain a shred of confidence by thinking of Winnie, then he had no right to interfere.
Bob felt that Winnie was like a poison, capable of both killing him and bringing him back to life.
Anyway, he had now seen through Ishara, who was the most hypocritical person, jumping ship as soon as Lawrence got into trouble, moving out of the Rodriguez Family and severing all ties.
It was a waste of his previous kindness, thinking of keeping the child in her belly.
In comparison, Winnie wasn't as bad as Ishara!
In a private villa, Ishara knelt with her clothes undone, her face flushed.
Rock pinched her chin, looking down at her, "Don't get distracted. Do you think it was easy for me to go to the police station and erase the case for you? This morning, Bentley was still at the police station asking about how Melanie fell."
"Thank you, Mr. Harrington," Ishara said softly, lifting her eyes filled with a hint of tears. From certain angles, her dewy face really resembled Winnie's.
