Chapter 926 Protect the Child

"Why are you even asking?" Olivia forced a smile. "We agreed from the start to get rid of it."

Winnie tried to stop her. "But why now? Your dad's in such a bad spot. Maybe we can wait a bit!"

"This is Sam's condition. I'm really worried I won't get the other half of the antidote."

Olivia frowned, glancing at her barely two-months-pregnant belly. It was still flat, and she could almost pretend the tiny embryo had never been there, though the thought made her heart ache.

Jeremy, oh Jeremy, he had made his choice.

That day in Lynn's hospital room, wasn't it obvious how he protected her?

He was getting married!

She had no reason to keep this child on her own anymore.

Besides, getting the antidote for Jake was the most important thing.

Olivia bent over and sat in a chair, her nails digging into her tangled hair as she explained her reasoning. "Most importantly, my dad doesn't want me to keep it. He thinks this child is my disgrace and the DeRoss family's disgrace.

Also, I plan to ruin Lynn's wedding. I don't want to leave her any chance to hurt me.

If the child has to go, I choose to let it leave quietly, rather than have a bloody farewell at the wedding."

"How do you know something will happen at the wedding?" Winnie frowned. "Ray and I will protect you. Olivia, I know you're gathering evidence. You want to take Lynn down at the wedding and get the antidote, but you don't have to rush with the child."

Olivia shook her head with a bitter smile. "Hesitation leads to chaos, Winnie. I'm afraid if I wait any longer, I'll get too attached when my belly starts to show... What then?

Should I bring the child into the world, only to become another Mia, lonely and without a father's love?

I don't want to go through another three years. I don't want my dad to know and be heartbroken, which would worsen his condition.

I just want to go along with him now."

Winnie felt that Olivia had made up her mind; maybe her heart had turned to ashes.

Jeremy hadn't given her any hope.

What should she do with the child?

If it were Winnie herself, she would be lost too, without the strength to carry on.

"Have you made an appointment with the doctor?" she asked tentatively.

Olivia nodded absentmindedly. "When I brought my dad to the hospital earlier, I checked the OB-GYN department. There's a doctor available today."

Winnie's tense expression relaxed slightly, and she sighed in relief. At least Olivia had chosen Evergreen Hospital.

She already had a plan in mind.

"When are you going?" she asked, looking down at her.

Olivia saw her stern face and knew she wasn't happy, but she could only accept her determination.

She removed her hand from her belly and said, "As soon as my mom comes to stay with my dad, I can go."

Winnie pressed her lips together. "Get up. I'll go with you now."

"Don't you have some things to take care of?" Olivia asked, puzzled.

Winnie's eyes flashed, and she looked angry. "Are you stupid? How can I not be with you during an abortion? Those things can wait."

As she spoke, she sent a message to Ray, asking him to take care of Mia and that she would see the child in the afternoon.

"Which doctor did you make an appointment with? I need to meet them first and see how capable they are. Your health has been so weak lately, and I'm really worried!"

At the door of the operating room, Winnie asked deliberately.

Olivia thought she was just nervous for her and didn't suspect anything, so she handed the registration slip to Winnie.

"Mireille, right? I'll go meet this...Mireille. You wait here, and we'll start the anesthesia when I get back."

Winnie, afraid Olivia might act on her own, even called a nurse to watch over her.

She then hurried to the Evergreen Hospital director's office. After revealing her connection to Lawrence, the director came personally.

Winnie waited in the director's office, and soon Mireille arrived.

About ten minutes later, Winnie and Mireille came out together.

The director personally escorted them.

Winnie smiled and shook hands with Mireille. "Please make sure everything is done perfectly, and keep it completely confidential. Don't let my friend suspect anything. Director, I will remember this favor."

The director responded smoothly, "Ms. Anderson, everyone knows you are Mr. Rodriguez's ex-wife... We will take care of everything. Don't worry."

With that, Winnie added, "My friend's father, Jake, is in the ICU. His condition is very special. Please assign more security."

"Of course, Ms. Anderson. We will take good care of him."

Winnie left and returned to the OB-GYN surgery prep room.

Olivia hadn't eaten breakfast and looked very weak. Winnie watched her thin back from a distance, her curves smooth but visibly more emaciated under her clothes.

Did she even notice how bad her health was?

And now she was going to have an abortion. She really wasn't planning to take care of herself!

Thinking of this, Winnie blamed Jeremy even more.

But the feelings between two people weren't like a chess game, where an outsider could move the pieces and make everything right.

No matter how much others interfered, they couldn't resolve the love and hate between them, only make things worse.

As a friend, she could only help as much as she could.

"Olivia, we can start the anesthesia now. The nurse explained the whole procedure to me. It's very short, just ten minutes, and you don't need to go through the old recovery process." Olivia smiled lightly when she saw Winnie return, trying to appear relaxed.

Winnie knew that beneath her calm exterior, Olivia's heart was breaking.

She was cutting out a piece of herself. If this child were really taken away, it would completely erase her past with Jeremy.

So, Winnie couldn't let her do it.

She glanced at the nurse, who was arranged by Mireille, and they exchanged a look.

Winnie took Olivia's hand and smiled. "Did you find out all the details to ease your guilt? Do you really think an abortion is that easy?"

"Stop it. I've made up my mind. It's just like it never happened. Because if it's born, it won't be happy. I hope it gets a better chance next time." Her voice grew hoarse.

Winnie blinked and gripped her shoulder tightly. "Are you sure? Olivia, have you thought about why your dad was suddenly released for medical treatment this morning? Could it be Jeremy helping him behind the scenes? Maybe he still cares about you?"

Olivia was stunned. When the police called this morning, she was overjoyed and wondered who was helping her. But... could it be Jeremy?

She trembled as she asked Winnie, "Do you think it's him? Did you talk to him for me? What did he say?"
