Chapter 695 Sidney Persuades Lawrence
Seeing Lawrence with that scruffy beard, looking nothing like his old handsome self, Sidney felt a deep bitterness inside.
'How did Dad end up like this in just a few days?' Sidney thought.
He bit his lip, trying not to cry, and stomped over, "Take your medicine."
"Just leave it there. I'm sorry. I've been swamped lately and haven't had time to see you and Oscar," Lawrence said.
"You don't need to explain. I know everything." Sidney shot back.
Lawrence's eyes filled with embarrassment.
Sidney, fuming, said, "Are you seriously not gonna take the medicine? Mom put it in my backpack for you."
Lawrence's despondent eyes suddenly lit up, "She prepared the medicine for me?"
Lawrence was kinda shocked. That morning on the phone, she had been so cold.
He scoffed, "Sidney, I'm glad you came to see me, but you don't need to lie."
"Mom really sent me! She said you're so down and out now. She's afraid you'll die and I won't get to see you one last time," Sidney said irritably, pulling out a business card from his backpack. "She said you're seriously injured. This is a card from a doctor. Mom probably wants you to contact this doctor for treatment. And the medicine, if you don't want to die, take it on time. Even if you die, the world will keep going, and Mom will still live with another man. But you're still my only dad. How long are you gonna stay like this?"
Sidney's eyes were red with anger.
Lawrence was speechless and deeply embarrassed by Sidney's words.
His heart trembled slightly as he took the business card from Anthony Allen.
[Urologist Orlando Wolf.]
Lawrence's handsome features instantly darkened as he thought, 'Winnie found a urologist for me. Should I say she's kind, or that she's overflowing with sympathy? Damn it, she still looks down on me. In her heart, I must be utterly weak now.'
Lawrence bitterly pressed down the business card, his thin lips curling slightly as he thought, 'No matter what, she at least still has some kindness towards me. Although she doesn't want to treat me personally, she had Sidney bring me medicine and introduce a doctor.'
"Sidney, thank her for me."
Sidney, with red eyes, said, "If you think Mom is just pitying you, then go ahead and keep being a loser. Rock's already outdone you, and he's not slowing down. He'll only keep surpassing you. This afternoon while you were sleeping, I heard from Ray that Rock has secretly beaten you up several times. I can't stand it! Actually, Mom still hasn't slept with Rock."
Sidney hadn't wanted to reveal Winnie's privacy, but seeing Lawrence so despondent, he couldn't help but say it.
Lawrence's body shook as he thought, 'She still hasn't?'
Sidney said honestly, "Last time, she almost slept with Rock, but I rushed in and called Mom out. But if you keep being a mess, Mom will eventually be with Rock and have a baby. I don't want a new brother. Mom won't love me and Oscar the same anymore. Dad, no matter how sad you are how tough things get, you have to think of me and Oscar. We are your sons. Can you bear to let people laugh at us in the future for having a dad who never got back on his feet? And Mom, she's still kind to you. If she were heartless, she would have sued you long ago. But for our sake, she withdrew her lawsuit against you. I heard her arguing with Rock about it with my own ears."
Lawrence was taken aback again, thinking she hadn't planned to sue him.
But that day at the Rodriguez Group, she had been so harsh.
His deep eyes grew heavier.
Sidney sighed, looking at him helplessly, "I don't expect you to win Mom back anymore. You've messed up too much. But don't let me and Oscar look down on you! I'll only provoke you this once. If you don't consider us, then we won't acknowledge you anymore!"
Lawrence stiffened.
Seeing the redness and frustration in Sidney's eyes, he felt like his heart was being stabbed.
'Sidney's right. I can't keep going like this, or even my sons will look down on me. I've been wallowing in despair, thinking Winnie will never accept me again. But I've overlooked my sons' feelings. How selfish of me, forgetting that two little guys are waiting for me to rise again. Even if I don't care about myself, I have to live for my sons. And I can't let Winnie look down on me anymore. I don't want her pity; I'd rather she be indifferent!' Lawrence thought before he picked up the medicine on the tray and swallowed it in one gulp.
His deep eyes showed the usual pride and determination. He lifted Sidney with one arm, saying, "Sidney, you're right. Keep scolding. I'll keep listening."
'It's crazy. Who knows how much courage it took for me to scold Lawrence just now. You know, Lawrence used to discipline me in no time.' Sidney thought, secretly sticking out his tongue, tears glistening, "Did you get all that?"
"Yeah." Lawrence smiled wearily.
"Will you fight for me?" Sidney asked.
"I won't let your Mom look down on me," Lawrence said firmly.
"You only think about Mom. These days, you haven't thought about me and Oscar at all!" Sidney said, feeling a bit jealous. "But I don't blame you. The Rodriguez family has had so many troubles. Oscar said he could help you, but he doesn't want to. He's doing more important things. If you have any sense of responsibility, take care of your own business. Maybe one day you'll find out Oscar's been cleaning up your mess."
Thinking of Oscar, who was seemingly gentle but actually a wise little guy, Lawrence smiled. But he frowned, "What does Oscar mean, cleaning up my mess?"
Sidney scratched his head and said, "I don't understand either. But Oscar's words are always profound, and he's smart. He's been very busy lately, seems to have something on his mind, but he won't tell me."
"Sidney, he's your younger brother, just returning to you. You need to care for him more. It's my fault. I'll bring you and Oscar over someday. Leah's health has been very poor lately," Lawrence said.
"What's wrong with Leah?" Sidney asked with concern, thinking of Leah, who was so good to him!
Lawrence's eyes deepened, "Because of the Rodriguez family's downfall, Leah has been worried sick."
"Where is she living now? I heard from Oscar that the Rodriguez estate has been sold," Sidney said.
"Yeah, she's not here. She's in another property of the Rodriguez Group."
"I'll talk to Mom when I get home. I want to visit Leah."
Lawrence nodded, a trace of reluctance in his eyes, but he still pulled Sidney up and looked at the dark sky outside, "It's dark. Go home. Don't let your Mom worry."
'Since she sent Sidney over, I don't want to keep him too long,' Lawrence thought.
"Lawrence, take your medicine properly, don't let Mom down. And see that doctor too!" Sidney reminded.
