Chapter 510 He's Keeping the Child

"Lawrence," the doctor repeated, "Her HCG level is well above 5 which indicates pregnancy. But it's still early. We'll need to run further tests to confirm. Can you recall when she might have conceived?"

Three years ago, during the births of Oscar and Sidney, he was not only missing but he was also the one made responsible.

A tinge of red appeared in the corners of Lawrence's eyes, indicating his regret.4

"Mr. Lawrence!" Jeremy rushed to the hospital. Seeing Lawrence return to the corridor, his icy demeanor gave way to a tormented expression as if he was on the brink of madness.

Jeremy approached with concern. "I heard Winnie fainted. By the look on your face, it's not some terminal illness, is it?"

Lawrence shot him a cold glance. "Got a smoke?" Jeremy pulled out a pack of cigarettes. Lawrence's slender fingers flicked one out, turned to stand by the window and lit it.

Shrouded in smoke, his brows furrowed then relaxed. He said in a cool tone, "Winnie's pregnant."

"What?!" Jeremy was not expecting to hear that news from him.

"My child."

Jeremy blinked, detecting a clear trace of pride. He almost chuckled in response but found himself thoroughly puzzled. "Considering the conflict between you and Winnie, how did you manage to find an opportunity? Surely she wouldn't yield to your athletic and attractive physique, would she? When did you two become intimate?"

Lawrence pursed his lips. "The night she was hijacked and was nearly killed by the drug, I begged her."

"Damn." Jeremy could only swear under his breath.

On such a perilous night, they found themselves in that cellar. No wonder Winnie had been behaving strangely after her rescue.

Jeremy had sensed something at that time. He smirked. "Not too shabby, old-timer. But…" His expression hardened, his brow furrowed. "Winnie might not be keen on having the little one, huh? I made it clear to her that you were finished with Ishara. Yet, there you go, getting engaged. It must've hit her hard. She thought you'd be there for Oscar's sake. How about you? Ever thought about wanting this child?"

"Of course, I love her. The timing is off but this baby is a lifeline for us."

Jeremy's eyes widened and was lost for words.

Lawrence crushed the cigarette butt and turned around, his gaze cold. "Keep your mouth shut. She doesn't need to know for now."

"You're putting on a tough act again. Once she starts experiencing the pregnancy, she'll catch on. If she discovers you've deceived her, it's over for you."

Lawrence couldn't help but feel anxious because she was so intelligent. For the time being, he could only keep it a secret and play it by ear. He hoped that by the time the pregnancy became too evident, she wouldn't have the heart to end it. Even if she ended up hating him enough to want him dead, he'd accept it.

Jeremy was on the verge of grasping the astonishing news as he comfortingly patted his friend's shoulder. "Lawrence, now that you've chosen to discreetly proceed with having this baby, it's time to address the situation with Ishara and offer Winnie a glimpse of a brighter future. Additionally, regarding the shooting incident involving Winnie's dad, my instincts are telling me there's more to it than meets the eye. The truth I could discern from the scene appears to only scratch the surface."

As they walked, Jeremy led the way toward Winnie's hospital room.

Lawrence quickened his pace at the anticipation of seeing Winnie awake after learning about her pregnancy. However, his body tensed up as he reached the door.

Inside the room, Winnie was struggling to breathe after she had regained consciousness. Her back was propped up on the bed, face ashen.

Rock kept watch by her bedside, bending down to gently wipe the cold sweat from her forehead. His voice conveyed anguish. "Winnie, your dad's condition caught us all off guard. I understand the impact this has had on you. You've been resilient since arriving in Trento City. Your uncle instructed me to look after you, and now you're here, unwell. Don't fret, your dad will wake up as it's just a matter of time."

Rock's words pierced Winnie's defenses and she sobbed quietly with her head bowed. With a soft heart, Rock wrapped his arms around her frail body. "Rest up. You can't let this defeat you. No matter what happens, I'm here for you during this tough time."

With a hoarse voice, Winnie nestled into his shoulder and whispered, "I'm already broken."

Her father lay unconscious, the Blanchets preventing her from seeing him, and everything appeared to be completely under Eleanor and Patrick's control. Additionally, there was the engagement between Ishara and Lawrence. All of this news left her devoid of any strength.

"Winnie." Rock wiped her tears away.

Outside, Lawrence's eyes reddened with fury. His face was grim with his fists clenched, signaling he was ready to burst in. But Jeremy grabbed him.
