Chapter 178 Don't Want the Child
Trembling, Winnie placed her hands on both sides of her stomach, her whole body...
She quickly felt the baby kicking violently. She tightly covered her mouth while crying, softly comforting the child, "Daddy didn't mean to. Be a good boy, you didn't hear anything, you can't hear...".
His words were so heart-wrenching and painful that she couldn’t breathe at all.
Watching him walk away from the dining table, his resolute figure, Winnie couldn't help but stand up and sob, "Lawrence R, did you hear? Don't leave him, he's moving, he's scared, he's sad, he's in so much pain...".
She weakly crouched down, cold sweat dripping down her forehead like rain.
Lawrence R froze, his clenched fists becoming cold. He heard the sound of a fall and couldn't help but turn around.
"Ah! L, my right-side hurts so much, it hurts..." In the distance, Darcy suddenly screamed in pain.
"Darcy!" Lawrence R became nervous, no longer sparing a glance for Winnie, he immediately ran over.
Carefully holding Darcy, he said with concern, "Quick, I'll carry you to the hospital, endure the pain."
"I only have one kidney left, is it enough? L, will I die one day..."
"Silly, you won't." The man's voice was firm and cold.
Winnie watched him worry about Darcy like that, holding her and running out swiftly.
She also didn't miss the irony in Darcy's gaze as she passed. The triumphant look.
And she lay on the ground, unable to get up for a long time, just like lying in the Arctic, knowing he wouldn’t notice her, he would never look at her again.
Lawrence R carried Darcy into the car and drove to the nearest hospital.
The woman lay in the back seat, pale and bloodless.
A week ago, when Lawrence R left the hospital, his neurological disorder had not improved.
Darcy, worried about him, followed him abroad instead of staying behind to recuperate, which led to her deteriorating health.
A trace of guilt flashed across Lawrence R’s face as he concentrated on driving.
At this time, Darcy quietly sent a message to her mother on her phone, asking, “Have you and father arrived?”
“Which hospital did you go to?” Mrs. Ordelia asked.
Darcy gave her the address and then put her phone away, lying down weakly.
The car soon arrived at the second hospital, and Lawrence R hurriedly carried the woman to the emergency room, his face not looking good as he said, “She donated a kidney half a month ago.”
“She donated a kidney, why didn’t she stay in the hospital for rest?” the doctor exclaimed.
Lawrence R pursed his lips.
"It's alright, I just need to rest for a while... Doctor, please arrange a hospital room for me." Darcy forced a bitter smile.
"Then you go to make the payment," the doctor said, turning to look at Lawrence R's assistant.
Lawrence R took the medical records and glanced deeply at Darcy, repaying his debt to her by personally making the payment.
By the time he figured out the complex payment procedure of the hospital and returned, an hour had already passed.
Just as he reached the door of the hospital room, he saw his assistant standing outside the room with an inexplicable expression, not going in.
"What's the matter?" Lawrence R asked immediately.
Just as he spoke, upon hearing the intense crying from inside, Mrs. Ordelia exclaimed, "You foolish child! How could you casually donate a kidney? It's a kidney, the most important organ! And you kept it a secret from us! A few days ago, we suddenly heard someone talking about you donating a kidney in Trento City. Many prominent families are talking about you, Darcy. You're 27 years old, and with the way you are, no wealthy man will marry you. Your life is ruined."
Compared to Mrs. Ordelia's agitation, Mr. Ordelia remained composed. "It's done. The kidney has already been donated to Lawrence's mother. Darcy truly loves Lawrence."
"But what about our daughter? She won't be able to take care of herself in the future. With only one kidney, there will always be risks. Who will take care of you? You've liked him for so many years, but even with a conscience, he should have taken the initiative to care for you."
Darcy, understanding their concerns, said, "Lawrence is taking care of me, Mother. Please don't misunderstand him."
"Taking care is not simply about spending money. You saved him and his mother, so he should marry you."
"Don't say such things in front of Mr. L. I don't want to trouble him."
"And what about you? Aren't you troubled, my dear child?" Mrs. Ordelia began to cry again.
The mother and daughter embraced each other, tears streaming down their faces, while Mr. Ordelia sighed in the room.
Outside the door, the assistant helplessly looked at Lawrence R, the CEO of Imperial Jewelry. His face was somber, revealing no trace of emotion.
Soon after, the assistant saw a tall man with sharp features enter the room. His voice lacked any hint of emotion as he spoke, "I'm sorry. I will get engaged to Darcy and take responsibility for her care."
With a loud bang, the hospital room fell silent. Darcy lifted her teary eyes and said pitifully, "L, are you… are you serious?"
Lawrence R rubbed his forehead and nodded.
Mrs. Ordelia stopped crying and finally looked at Lawrence R with satisfaction. Walking over, she spoke with a hint of reverence, "Lawrence R, you really are a man of your word."
"Lawrence, hearing you say that puts my mind at ease," Mr. Ordelia also expressed his satisfaction. "Shall we go outside for a smoke?"
For some reason, Lawrence R was feeling a bit agitated, but he laughed it off. Love was no longer a concern in his life, it didn't matter to him who it was. He nodded his head and walked out with long strides.
The door closed slightly, and Mrs. Ordelia turned back, making eye contact with her daughter. Both revealed a hidden smile in their eyes.
Mrs. Ordelia carefully closed the door and returned to sit down. In a lowered voice, she asked, "How is your body really doing?"
Her peripheral vision glanced at the scar on Darcy's right abdomen where she had donated her kidney. It was still wrapped in bandages, not fully healed.
Darcy glanced at the door to ensure it was safe, then smiled and said, "Don't worry, Mother. Your daughter is resourceful."
Mrs. Ordelia understood and relaxed, gently caressing her daughter's face. Proudly, she said, "You're clever, my nimble-fingered child.
"Without my guidance, you wouldn't have accomplished it as seamlessly as this. This time, we completely crushed that Winnie, didn't we?"
"His heart will only belong to me from now on," Darcy said confidently, squinting her eyes.
"You don't know how much he hates Winnie. Now, he doesn't even want the child."
"Well, that's perfect. You can have his child in the future," Mrs. Ordelia smiled. "By kidnapping Elliott, you have put our minds at ease. After all, he is the trouble left by the Granger family..."
As Darcy listened, her mind raced, and she asked in confusion, "Mom, L hasn't done anything to the Granger family. He even told Winnie himself. Are you saying that Elliott is a trouble for us?"
"Yes, although he doesn't know the truth, he is still from the previous generation of the Granger family."
Darcy pondered deeply, suddenly noticing something. He heard that Winnie's grandfather used to work in the medical field in Trento City.
Could it be...? Darcy was slightly astonished and dared not think further.
Lawrence R and Mr. Ordelia returned after smoking, and Mrs. Ordelia and Darcy had already regained their composure.
Mr. Ordelia and Mrs. Ordelia didn't stay in Lymington; they were going back to Trento City that day.
However, Mr. Ordelia entrusted, "Lawrence, Darcy's health will be fragile in the future. My daughter cares a lot about you. If possible, can you take her home and take care of her nearby?"
Lawrence R couldn't refuse.
This girl by his side had indeed done too much for him, saving him twice from his neurological disorder and donating a kidney to her mother. Ethically and morally, he couldn't abandon her anymore.
"Alright."
Darcy heard his low and firm response and felt extremely delighted.
Mr. L was such a reclusive and a germophobe, yet he agreed to let her stay in the villa estate!
That was his home, once the love nest for him and Winnie, making it even more significant.
She tried hard to conceal her excitement in her heart and appeared frail and delicate on the surface. "Mr. L, will this inconvenience you? I don't want to make things difficult for you."
