Chapter 329 Protecting Darcy
"Ah!" Darcy cried out in agony as her head submerged in the water. In her violent struggle, she choked on the soapy water that seeped into her lungs.
Winnie experienced a surge of satisfaction, accompanied by a growing intensity of lethal intent. "What's it like? Do you feel pain? How can I engage in any rational conversation with someone as despicable as you? Three years ago, Oscar was born and fell into the sea. It was because of you that he developed asthma. Three years later, you heartlessly tried to kill him again! You dared to touch my two children, and one day I will skin you and drink your blood."
"The reason why you have come to me like this is because you have no evidence, right? Legally, you're powerless against me." Darcy smirked, seizing the opportunity to assert herself. "Do you really want Mr. L to discover the existence of yet another illegitimate child? I assume not, so your only option is to endure this silently."
"Is that so?" Winnie also smirked, flashing a silver needle. "Just you wait!" The tip of the silver needle was aimed at Darcy's eyes, approaching within a centimeter.
Darcy panicked and shouted, "Mr. L, help! Winnie wants to blind me!"
Lawrence directed the chef to craft a nutritious meal for Sidney. After successfully preparing the healthy dish, an additional serving was available. Consequently, Lawrence arranged for his bodyguard to deliver it to Darcy. Outside the ward, the bodyguard heard shouting and immediately turned to call Lawrence.
"What is going on?" he asked.
The man walked up to the ward's door and heard strange noises inside. His sharp eyes glanced toward the window, and his face suddenly changed. He pushed the door open and yelled, "Winnie!"
The man's stern shout momentarily silenced the room. Following that, Darcy's voice, filled with grievance, rang out. "Mr. L, please help me! I don't understand why Winnie wants to kill me!"
Lawrence's eyes grew cold and dark as he stared at the bloodstains seeping through Darcy's hospital gown. Her face was bruised and swollen, covered in vomit, and she looked utterly disheveled. Her natural appearance was even more grotesque. Lawrence furrowed his brows and quickly walked over, supporting Darcy who was on the verge of falling off the bed. He cast a chilling gaze at Winnie. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like?" In response to his angry question, Winnie's tone grew colder. The silver needle in her hand swayed in a sharp arc, terrifying Darcy. She made no effort to hide her actions. With a kick, she knocked over a basin of water, sneering at the foaming-mouthed Darcy. "Darcy claimed she rescued my son while he was being kidnapped. So, I came to show my gratitude by giving her a taste of the suffering my son endured."
Her words pointed toward Oscar. Darcy grasped the situation, while Lawrence remained oblivious. Darcy refrained from openly instigating a conflict with Winnie, and she was aware that Winnie had no intention of openly provoking one either.
Lawrence was completely puzzled by the situation. He stared at Winnie who was wreaking havoc without restraint. "Bodyguard, restrain this woman for me."
Darcy cried out amidst heart-wrenching sobs, recounting, "Mr. L, she drowned me with soapy water and even tried to blind me. Quickly, call a doctor to wash out my stomach."
Lawrence withdrew his cold gaze, picked up Darcy, and left to find a doctor. In a trance, Winnie observed his retreating figure, sensing her once impassive heart being repeatedly wrenched open. The frigid air, normally piercing, now seemed strangely muted, its coldness unable to register.
As Oscar lay in the ward, recovering from surgery, she pondered whether he was aware of what had transpired. The despicable nature of his father, truly beyond comparison, lingered in her thoughts.
Winnie coldly suppressed her emotions, and her silver needles pierced the arms of four or five bodyguards. Without Lawrence's command, the bodyguards naturally didn't dare to touch her. Within a few moves, they were rendered immobile, and Winnie stormed out of the ward.
Unexpectedly, her wrist was forcibly grabbed by the returning man's strong grip. "Have you caused enough trouble? Do you really want me to throw you into the police station?" Lawrence pressed her against the wall, his voice cold.
"What's the matter? Are you feeling sorry for your precious Darcy after a few hits?" Winnie curled her lips mockingly.
"I was standing outside the window and saw you attack her while she was defenseless."
"Do you truly grasp the gravity of her actions, Lawrence? You're in the dark about everything! Allow me to caution you: you and your partner should stick together, or she'll be in for a rude awakening. I couldn't care less about her health, but if she ever harms Sidney again, I won't hesitate to take matters into my own hands. She inflicted pain on the child, so I'll make sure she feels it too, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it!" With a quivering voice and intense fury, she delivered these words.
Lawrence's brow furrowed as he locked his gaze onto the woman's pallid face, which radiated an extraordinary intensity of fury. The sheer depth of her anger was baffling, almost incomprehensible. He retorted, "Sidney wasn't in any danger of losing his life. If you cared about the child, you should have gone to the hospital to see him instead of causing trouble for Darcy. Darcy was also a victim of this kidnapping. Are you trying to imply that she had orchestrated it and intentionally harmed Sidney? That doesn't make sense. Nobody would put themselves in danger just to harm a child. Besides, she had no intention of hurting Sidney for the past three years. Why would she suddenly do it now?"
Oscar's influence prompted her to take action, yet Winnie found herself unable to vocalize it. She held her breath, feeling a surge of anger in her heart.
Lawrence, grounded in logical reasoning, placed his trust solely in evidence."Besides, she provided her testimony to the police. You can check it. Would she dare to lie and deceive the police?"
Winnie coldly laughed. If Darcy had planned the kidnapping, there was no way that she would leave behind any evidence. His trust in Darcy was so familiar, just like three years ago.
Disappointed, Winnie looked at him. "Lawrence, you always fall for her tricks repeatedly. You don't believe she would endanger herself to harm the child. But do you remember three years ago, when I said she intentionally donated her kidney, pretending to save your mother? She is playing the same game! I'm begging you, open your eyes and observe this woman clearly because it's dangerous for the child to be around her. If you remain stubborn, I will eventually take Sidney away at any cost."
The hatred in her eyes and her slightly trembling body due to anger caused Lawrence's deep gaze to falter, a hint of darkness flashing past.
Winnie didn't care whether he suspected Darcy or not. She didn't bother explaining. She had had enough of explanations in the past three years. Now, she felt that there was no need for words with this bitch couple.
As Winnie prepared to depart, she found Lawrence gripping her wrist firmly, unwilling to let go. Instead, he pulled her closer and asked, "Did I say you could leave?"
"Do I still have anything to say to someone as blind as you, Lawrence?"
Lawrence's expression grew stern, his gaze narrowing as he focused on her red lips. His imposing figure loomed over her, and he asserted, "If you can't learn how to speak properly, I'll teach you, understand?" The forceful oppression was accompanied by an obvious threat.
Winnie angrily turned her face away.
In a low voice, he asked, "I'm puzzled by something and I hope you can clarify. Last night, the surveillance was focused northward. How did you determine that our son was kidnapped to the south?"
The truth affirmed Winnie's intuition, causing her heart to skip a beat. She found herself unable to disclose Oscar's identity.
Her silence made Lawrence suspicious. "What are you hiding? Do you have a secret?"
"What secret could there possibly be?" she calmly replied. "Then let me ask you, didn't you doubt me? Why did you finally decide to come to the south?" Winnie had to quickly change the topic.
