Chapter 908 Visiting Jake

Winnie was incredibly composed, her eyes sharp and focused as she started making calls from the car, seeking help.

Sure enough, her presence made a difference.

By ten in the morning, Olivia finally got to see Jake.

He was held in a shabby cell at the detention center, crammed with over a dozen people. Given his age and frail health, Jake couldn't possibly have had a peaceful time. When he came out, he was limping, struggling to move.

Olivia's heart shattered. She looked at Jake through tear-filled eyes, noticing the blood at the corner of his mouth, a sign that he had been cleaned up before being brought out.

The people in the cell had definitely beaten Jake, targeting areas covered by his clothes so it wouldn't be visible.

Olivia clutched Winnie's arm, making a silent vow, "Winnie, no matter what, I can't let my dad stay in that detention center, and I definitely can't let him go to prison. He'll die at their hands."

"Calm down, Olivia. We'll get him out," Winnie reassured her, feeling her pain.

"Only one family member is allowed to visit," the officer announced.

Winnie had to leave.

Olivia sat down across the table, tears streaming down her face, "Dad, Dad..."

Jake's eyes reddened when he saw Olivia. After a moment of intense emotion, his demeanor turned cold. He stared at Olivia as if trying to see through her.

When Jake's gaze fell on her stomach, Olivia felt like her heart was being scorched, the discomfort growing unbearable, "Dad..."

She reached out to him, but Jake didn't take her hand. He turned away, his lips trembling, "Olivia, tell me, are you pregnant?"

"Dad, please listen to me..."

"Is what Joshua said true? You have no self-respect, and you're pregnant with Sam's child again? How did I end up with such a disgraceful daughter? God, I can't believe it. Olivia, if you're pregnant with Sam's child, I'll plead guilty. I'll spend the rest of my life in prison. I don't care about facing the ridicule!"

Jake's harsh words were accompanied by him clutching his chest in pain.

Olivia's heart ached. She leaned forward, trying to support him, her tears blurring her vision, "Dad, please calm down. Don't torture yourself.

It's my fault. It's all my fault that you've been humiliated.

But this child isn't Sam's. He's not..."

"Then whose child is it? Why are you pregnant, Olivia? It breaks my heart! After everything you went through three years ago, why didn't you learn to live with dignity and make people in Lymington respect you again? Why?"

Jake slammed the table, deeply disappointed.

All the humiliation in his life seemed to stem from Olivia, dragging him down with her.

Olivia bit her lip until it almost bled. She couldn't say anything, couldn't defend herself. After all, she couldn't reveal whose child it was.

If she did, it would only make Jake angrier.

The DeRoss Family was a sore spot for Jake. Any association with them was unacceptable to him.

"Dad, I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry! Please promise me you'll take care of yourself here. Stay calm. Your heart can't take any more stress, you know that."

"I won't let you stay here long, Dad. I'll prove your innocence and get you out of here. Winnie's back, and she's got connections. She'll help us. Trust me, you'll be released without charges."

"Just go!" Jake slumped in the chair, clutching his chest. He couldn't bear to look at Olivia, but his trembling lips finally spoke, "You're not married. You can't have a child. No matter what, I hope you and Mia can find a good man and live a respectable life. If you're really pregnant, don't keep it."

Olivia's heart ached. She knew Jake loved her deeply. With tears in her eyes, she touched her flat stomach, her hesitation turning into resolve. She rasped, "Okay, I promise you, I'll get rid of it."

Maybe, in Jake's eyes, this child would always be another fatherless child. Even if it pained her, even if she hesitated, she was destined to part ways with this child.

"By the way, how many times did you hit Joshua on the head?" Olivia asked before leaving.

Jake recalled the scene, his mind a blur, his eyes reddening. He admitted that years of pent-up anger over Olivia's reputation had exploded when Joshua insulted her. He lost control and hit Joshua on the forehead with an ashtray...

"Five times. The first hit was on the forehead. Joshua knocked me down and kicked my heart. I hit his side head a few more times in self-defense." Jake frowned, painfully recalling.

Olivia was silent for a moment, her eyes sharp, "So you didn't hit the back of his head? Are you sure?"

"No," Jake shook his head, "We fought face-to-face. He pinned me down and kicked my heart. My arms weren't long enough to reach the back of his head. Joshua was a strong young man... He shouldn't have died from a few hits. When he fell, I saw he wasn't completely unconscious... Maybe it was fate. Sometimes a light hit can be fatal."

"It wasn't fate, Dad!" Olivia, having heard Jake's account, was even more convinced, "I suspect Joshua was fine when he was taken to the hospital, at most severely concussed. He died in the hospital... In other words, there might be another cause of death!"

"What?" Jake looked up, confused. "Why do you say that?"

"Dad, you and Finn were targeted by Joshua. This has something to do with the DeRoss Family..." Olivia stopped herself. If Jake knew Sam from the DeRoss Family was behind this, he'd worry even more!

"It's hard to explain now. Winnie and I will find a way to get you out. We won't let you be wrongfully accused. Take care of yourself. If your heart acts up, report it to the guards immediately. Be careful, okay?"

"Okay." Jake frowned, worriedly looking at Olivia, feeling she was hiding something.

The brief visit ended with the guard's urging.

Outside, Olivia explained the situation to Winnie, "The police's case has issues. My dad didn't inflict the fatal injury. Joshua's death in the hospital is suspicious. Winnie, this is all the DeRoss Family's doing!"

"The DeRoss Family?" Winnie had just returned to Lymington and wasn't familiar with the case details.
