Chapter 729 Lawrence's Various Attempts to Please
"Why does it still hurt? You should take some anti-inflammatory medicine." Winnie asked, looking worried.
"Nah, I'm good. I'm a man, I can handle it," Sidney said, shaking his head. Taking medicine when he felt fine seemed silly.
It was all Lawrence's fault, that big jerk. Lawrence made him pretend to be sick.
Honestly, if Lawrence had to act, even if he ended up in the hospital, Winnie wouldn't necessarily care.
"Mom, let's go downstairs. I'm kinda hungry," Sidney said.
Winnie sighed and nodded. After helping Sidney wash up, she guided him downstairs.
But when they got to the living room, Lawrence was nowhere to be seen.
Winnie couldn't help but grumble. Sidney had been in a car accident, and Lawrence wasn't even home early in the morning.
Was this how he usually took care of Sidney?
She headed to the kitchen, opened the fridge, and started looking for ingredients to make breakfast for Sidney.
Just then, Lawrence walked in wearing sportswear, looking tall and handsome. His white T-shirt was soaked with sweat, showing off his chest and abs, paired with gray sweatpants and white running shoes.
He looked young and fit, full of energy.
Especially with his handsome face, short hair damp with sweat, and a slight sheen on his nose, he had this raw, rugged appeal.
Winnie's eyes were automatically drawn to his gray sweatpants.
She glanced at the area between his legs. Everything seemed fine; he didn't look like he had any issues.
Winnie snapped back to reality, her face turning red!
What was wrong with her, thinking such nonsense? But honestly, with a guy as good-looking as Lawrence, any random photo of him could be a male model's close-up.
He even had the nerve to go for a run, probably charming women all the way.
Winnie said sarcastically, "You seem pretty free. Sidney is sick, and you still go for a run."
"I went out to buy some breakfast and ran a bit along the way," Lawrence explained quickly.
Winnie gave him a cold look.
Lawrence walked over and lowered his voice, "I only went because you were here. Usually, I go out even earlier, before Sidney wakes up. The doctor said to cure sexual dysfunction, I need to exercise regularly."
Lawrence's already deep voice, lowered further, sounded even richer, especially with a hint of post-exercise hoarseness, making it incredibly sexy.
Winnie blushed as his warm breath brushed against her.
Sidney, not understanding, asked, "Daddy, what part are you treating?"
Winnie looked embarrassed.
Lawrence's handsome face froze, and after a moment, he said coldly, "This is grown-up talk, kid."
"Because you keep saying it can't be cured. I'm just worried about you!" Sidney got angry.
Winnie was speechless and glared at Lawrence resentfully.
Lawrence paused and had to explain slowly, "It's near my waist, got it?"
"Then just say it's your waist. Why be so mysterious? I heard from Jeremy and Ray that a man's waist is very important, something to do with women? You should get treated as soon as possible." Sidney lectured, looking like he knew a lot, then sat down at the dining table.
Lawrence glanced deeply at Winnie, noticing her flushed face, looking cute and a bit shy.
Just as he was about to speak, Winnie stopped him, "Look at what your friends are teaching Sidney, nothing good."
"He just picks up on bad words," Lawrence said helplessly, squinting his eyes. "Besides, isn't Jeremy your friend too? You care about him a lot."
Winnie was successfully persuaded, her eyes shifting to the breakfast Lawrence was holding.
"I got this for you," Lawrence smiled, placing it on the dining table. "Sidney, time for breakfast."
"Not bad, there's pizza, my favorite," Sidney said, eagerly opening the bag.
"Hold on," Winnie walked over, frowning as she snatched the pizza away. "Didn't you think about Sidney having a fever when you bought breakfast? You can't give a sick kid fried and baked food, Lawrence. How can you be so careless? He needs a delicate diet when he's sick."
Lawrence was stunned and glared at Sidney.
Sidney lowered his head guiltily. He had secretly texted Lawrence this morning, asking for pizza.
Sidney didn't actually have a fever, but Winnie really misunderstood Lawrence. He had been very meticulous in taking care of Sidney, who had been weak and sickly since childhood.
But now, because he was pretending to be sick, Lawrence had to take the blame.
Sidney mumbled, looking down, "Mommy, I actually wanted to eat it."
"It was my fault. I shouldn't have given him pizza," Lawrence apologized sincerely.
Winnie continued her rant, pulling out other food, "Oh god, pizza, fries, and burgers..."
She rubbed her temples, "A kid's digestive system isn't fully developed. They can't eat these things when they're sick, understand?"
Her professional side kicked in, and she started lecturing, even giving a lot of scientific explanations.
Lawrence listened thoughtfully, without a hint of impatience, instead gently watching her spirited face, a smile in his eyes.
He wished for such days, with Winnie's nagging being just another ordinary morning.
Unfortunately, he couldn't have these days.
After about ten minutes, Winnie finished her lecture and was surprised to see Lawrence not angry at all. He used to be impatient with long talks, his time worth millions of dollars per minute.
Had he really changed his personality recently?
Winnie said, "Did you get all that? That's how you take care of a child."
"Got it," Lawrence said with a faint smile, nodding obediently, even looking a bit like a loyal dog, "Should I get a notebook to write it down?"
Winnie was annoyed and turned to the kitchen, "Forget it, I'll make some porridge for Sidney."
As soon as Winnie went in, Sidney started crying, "Daddy, I don't want porridge. I've been acting sick for so long, I just want pizza!"
"It's okay, I'll sneak it to you when your mom is cooking."
Winnie immediately turned around from the kitchen, "What are you two talking about?"
"Just saying how pretty you are, Mommy," Sidney used Oscar's trick to flatter her.
But Winnie didn't buy it, glancing at him and then throwing the pizza straight into the trash.
"Daddy," Sidney gritted his teeth, mourning the pizza, "Mommy is so mean."
"Yeah, so heartless. I'm like that pizza she threw away," Lawrence said, feeling sorry for himself.
Sidney gave him a cold look, "The pizza is innocent, you're not! Don't overthink it."
Lawrence wanted to ask what kind of sons he had raised. One ignored him, and the other helped while disdaining him. He thought it was all his fault.
Lawrence sat down at the dining table, looking cold and distant.
When Winnie turned back with the porridge, she saw the two of them staring at her.
If Oscar were here, the scene would be dramatic.
She felt her face heat up, avoiding Lawrence's focused gaze, and she carried the porridge over, "Sidney, you can eat now. After you finish, I have to go to work."
Sidney unhappily took a sip of the porridge, turning to Lawrence, "I've done my best, but I can't stick to Mommy all the time. It doesn't fit my cool persona."
Lawrence looked at Sidney disdainfully.
Sidney pouted, "Besides, Mommy has her own things to do. What are you going to do?"
Lawrence was silent. He knew that he could trick her into coming over last night, but what about tonight and the night after?
He couldn't keep using Sidney as an excuse. She would eventually see through it and be furious with him.
Lawrence had no idea what he could do.
