Chapter 205 Suspecting Darcy

Inside the mother's hospital room, the man set her down without a word and walked out, shutting the door.

"What do you mean?" Winnie was puzzled. Now, there were only her and Madam Rodriguez in the room.

Lawrence R left the villa and entered a certain room upstairs through the back door.
The security guard in the surveillance room was startled and stood up respectfully, "Mr. L?"
The man stared at the woman on the monitor and spoke, "Leave."
The security guard glanced at Mrs. L, who suddenly appeared in the hospital room, not sure what Mr. L was going to do. He immediately exited.

Downstairs, Winnie didn't know where Lawrence R went, but this was a rare opportunity.
She immediately returned to the bedside and touched Madam Rodriguez's wrist, smiling sadly. "It's been so hard to finally meet you, mother. Let me check your pulse."

After checking the pulse, the woman gently released her grip and sighed.
She began treating the old lady...
Hand massage, followed by some parts, then flipping her over.

"This is exercise, Mom. I'll tell Taylor the details later. Now let me wash your face. I know you like to be clean."
She got up and walked into the bathroom.
She turned on the water and carefully washed Madam Rodriguez's face, wiped her hands, took off her socks and massaged her toes.

"Is this pressure okay? Although you can't speak, I know you can perceive." She said playfully.
After finishing everything for Madam Rodriguez, she returned to the bed and gently placed her own hand on her belly.

"The baby is so well-behaved. Usually, it's very quiet, but it has been moving a lot recently. I will give birth to it. Maybe that's the only promise I can fulfill for you... You know, he's going to get engaged at the end of the month. You don't want to see me staying here in a dirty identity, right?"

After saying that, she fell silent.
Lawrence R stared at her in the camera. She raised her hand to wipe the corner of her eye, where tears could be seen.

The man sat in the chair, took a deep breath, his expression gloomy.
Did she not want him to get engaged?

In fact, he could choose not to. To repay Darcy, marrying her was the best option, but there were other ways too.
As long as he was firm, the demands of the Ordelia family could be resolved...

Lawrence R looked at this woman intently. The reason why he watched her face her mother under surveillance was to observe her!

Even if a person can act, their subtle good and evil cannot be hidden.
Her eyes towards her mother showed no malice. On the contrary, she cared and acted naturally, checking her pulse and body.

Even Darcy, she hadn't come to take care of her since her mother's accident. Some girls might mind.

Bang! The door suddenly opened.
Winnie looked up and saw the man who had left and returned.
Worried that he would misunderstand, she immediately stood up and said, "I was just helping my mom clean up. Don't misunderstand." Her anxiety made Lawrence R feel uncomfortable.

He walked to the front of the sofa, sat down, and stared at her. Then, in a hoarse voice, he said, "I want to hear what happened on the night of the kidnapping, tell me again."

Winnie widened her eyes in disbelief. Didn't he trust her? Why would he suddenly ask this?
"Lawrence R, do you believe what I say?"

"I will judge for myself," he said in a deep voice.
Winnie then recounted every detail, "Whether you believe it or not, my intention was to save my mother and protect my uncle. Maybe I was too greedy, and in the end, I accomplished nothing.

But when my mother was in my hands, her pancreatitis attack stopped. She was fine until Darcy knocked me out and took her away. Three days later, when I went to the hospital, my mother became in a persistent vegetative state and underwent a kidney donation surgery hastily."

"What you mean is, you didn't harm your mother. It was Darcy who harmed her?" Lawrence R frowned deeply.

Winnie thought of her mother's blood is still being tested, and Darcy's kidney donation surgery is something she asked Olivia to check on just yesterday. There is no evidence yet, it won't happen so soon.

She forced a bitter smile. "I'm not insinuating anything; I believe the truth will soon come to light. But please, think carefully about it. What could be my motive for harming my mother?"

Lawrence R's expression froze. He had always been surrounded by anger and had never thought about this question before.

Yes, what could be Winnie's motive for hurting her own mother?

"Lawrence R, I was simply trying to protect my uncle. How could I intentionally cause my mother's kidney failure? What benefit would I gain from it? Only to be hated by you now, have Triton suppressed, and my uncle imprisoned while my cousin's life hangs in uncertainty? Why would I want to lose more than I gain?"

Lawrence R stared at her, seemingly unable to come up with an answer.

Winnie questioned again, "If I gained nothing, who benefited then? After all, Miss Ordelia is about to be engaged to you."

"I believe Darcy! No one would be foolish enough to harm another person first and then donate a kidney, enduring a lifetime of disability. Besides, you have no idea how good Darcy has been to me. She saved my life many years ago," Lawrence R said coldly, his hand unconsciously reaching into his pants pocket, where the half ring was. His gaze softened. "Without Darcy, I would have died years ago."

Winnie's eyes widened as she looked at the jade-green ring in his hand. She finally remembered why the one in Darcy's bag seemed familiar. Darcy's ring and his own perfectly fit together to form one complete ring.

She carefully recalled the incident concerning Lawrence R's lifesaver. It was when Darcy intentionally mentioned that he had feelings for someone else just before leaving Lymington to provoke her.

In that case, could his lifesaver be Darcy?

Lost in thought, Winnie tentatively asked, "When did you find out that Miss Ordelia was your lifesaver?"

"Recently. There's no need for you to ask about this matter," Lawrence R replied, keeping the girl buried deep inside him.

Winnie's eyebrows furrowed even more. She faintly sensed that something was not right.

If Darcy was truly his lifesaver, she would have used that as leverage to make Lawrence R marry her ages ago; she coveted him so much. Why wait until now?

What could be the reason? Did Darcy not know before, or did she only recently obtain this ring?

Speculation made Winnie's heart pound. No wonder Lawrence R had such unwavering trust in Darcy. They shared a "lifesaver incident" from several years ago.

Winnie couldn't help but shake her head and smile. "Lawrence R, Miss Ordelia isn't as innocent as you think. I suggest you double-check the matter of the ring."

"What do you mean? If it wasn't her who saved me back then, was it you?" Lawrence R asked incredulously.

Winnie was taken aback. Indeed, a few years ago, she did save a man as well.
During the incident of her functional neurological disorder, she didn't see his face that night, and she still doesn't know who it was until now.

She shook her head. "I wouldn't be so quick to claim credit for something I didn't do. However, I find it strange that Miss Ordelia went to such great lengths for you. According to her, she saved your life several years ago, yet you never responded to her all these years. But she still selflessly donated a kidney to your mother without any regrets."

"And she was so willing to donate, too. If it were me, I would at least seek my parents' consent, considering they gave me my body."

Lawrence R was taken aback. Mr. Ordelia and Mrs. Ordelia truly were unaware.

Darcy urgently donated her kidney. She didn't consult him, nor did she consult the Ordelia family. She did it without hesitation. Isn't that a bit strange?
