Chapter 733 Refusing to Save Him
The bodyguard stepped closer.
Olivia flipped over in a flash, grabbed the IV tube, and wrapped it around the bodyguard's neck!
"Olivia, what the hell are you doing?" the bodyguard gasped.
"Shut up, I'm not doing anything crazy. I just need to see Mr. King," Olivia snapped. "Don't even think about resisting. If you hurt me, you're in deep trouble. I'm the antidote, remember? And I can't exactly escape from here, can I?"
While the bodyguard was still processing what just happened, she bolted out and locked the door behind her.
Olivia was desperate to get out of there. Suddenly, she heard voices coming from a room down the hallway.
She crept over and noticed the study door was slightly ajar.
A secretary-looking guy was talking to Adam, "Mr. King, since you showed up in Trento City, we've been inundated with inquiries about the NexaCore Group. They're all eager to partner up, probably because they figured out you're the financial powerhouse behind the president. Among them, the Peterson Group is the strongest, followed by the Jenkins Group, and the new kid on the block, Harrington Group. Also, the Rodriguez Group, Lawrence has pledged loyalty and wants to work with us."
"Lawrence?" Adam's face twisted with anger, "He has the nerve to come to us after what he did to Alvin!"
After a moment, Adam barked, "Lawrence is banned from the upcoming Camellia Mount banquet. And send back the Rodriguez Group's materials. They're not worthy of our consideration. I hear he's not only a playboy, but he also kidnapped someone's fiancée and ruined his own family. He deserves everything he gets."
Adam's tone was dripping with disdain, like Lawrence was nothing to him.
Outside, Olivia was eavesdropping, especially on the part about NexaCore Group.
She couldn't help but rethink her opinion of Adam; he really did have that untouchable vibe.
As for NexaCore Group, Olivia remembered Bryan mentioning it once.
Back when they were looking for Jeremy, she overheard that the Rodriguez Family, being in a tight spot, planned to seek a partnership with a big corporation.
Olivia never thought this Adam was the chairman of NexaCore Group. Impressive, indeed!
'So, Adam is Jeremy's uncle? And the company Lawrence wants to partner with is Jeremy's family business? Wow, Jeremy's maternal family is powerful. Has Jeremy become a big shot behind the scenes?' Olivia's face went pale, jealousy bubbling up inside her.
But Olivia also caught something about a banquet, where they banned Lawrence and planned to toss out the Rodriguez Group's documents, leaving Lawrence no chance to bounce back.
Sure, Lawrence might deserve it for what he did to Winnie, but Olivia also heard about a competing company, the Harrington Group, which was Rock's company.
Plus, she remembered the Peterson Group was also a competitor. It seemed like Adam was leaning towards the Peterson Group.
Rock and Mars were in cahoots. They caught her at the club that day and threw her into the sea!
Olivia trembled with anger.
She made up her mind to stop both the Peterson Group and the Harrington Group from partnering with NexaCore Group!
If Rock gets stronger, no one will be able to stop him. He could do whatever he wants to Winnie, even take down the Blanchet Family and get his revenge.
An idea suddenly clicked in Olivia's mind. Maybe she should help Lawrence rise up, using him to keep Rock in check. Lawrence might be the only one who could stand up to someone as twisted as Rock. If Lawrence turned things around, he could save Winnie from Rock's clutches.
With that thought, Olivia impulsively burst into the room. "Mr. King, is it? You're the chairman of NexaCore? You've got Lawrence all wrong. Don't believe everything you hear around Trento City. The Rodriguez Group's downfall isn't as simple as it seems. There's more to the story. Those rumors about Lawrence were spread by the Peterson family. He was framed! He didn't hurt Jeremy! I know both Lawrence and Jeremy – I was actually closer to Jeremy before all this. I have no reason to lie to protect Lawrence!"
Olivia pressed on, "Don't misunderstand Lawrence anymore. He once had the most advanced chip technology. If the Rodriguez Group partners with NexaCore Group, it would be a win-win. Lawrence's skills won't disappoint you. Please, don't be so quick to kick him out. I know the Peterson Family and the Harrington Group better than you do—they're not good people! Just give Lawrence a chance, okay?"
Adam was taken aback by Olivia's sudden outburst.
Once he processed it, he was furious, his thick eyebrows knitting together. "So, you're in cahoots with Lawrence. How much is he paying you to plead his case? Do you think I, a respected businessman, can't distinguish fact from fiction?"
Olivia was at a loss, trying weakly to explain again.
"Enough!" Adam snapped, glaring at her. "Don't push your luck. Just because I'm willing to treat you doesn't mean you can influence my decisions. I didn't lock you up out of respect. I didn't expect you to try escaping again. Someone! Grab her. She's almost recovered; lock her back in the dungeon."
Olivia's face paled.
Just then, the butler hurried over, wiping cold sweat from his brow. "Mr. King, Mr. DeRoss's poisoning symptoms flared up again as soon as it got dark. He has a fever, and his condition is terrifying. His episodes are becoming more frequent and severe, and he just smashed everything. Maybe this Olivia..." The butler glanced at Olivia with a complicated look.
Adam's anger was replaced with anxiety. He had to awkwardly look at Olivia. "Butler, don't lock her in the dungeon yet."
Olivia was stunned.
At the same time, she couldn't help but frown; she hadn't expected Jeremy's poison to flare up again in less than twelve hours.
But this time, Olivia resolved not to help him. She thought Jeremy should suffer from the poison.
"Olivia," Adam's tone softened as he walked towards her. "You said you had a good relationship with Jeremy before, right? His condition is worsening. You wouldn't just stand by and watch him suffer, would you?"
Olivia was shocked by how quickly he changed his demeanor, just moments after trying to drag her to the dungeon.
"Don't think you can use me again," she said coldly, crossing her arms. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'm not falling for that again. Besides, he probably won't die. Just fry his brain a little."
