Chapter 957 Selling Misery

Darcy's eyes were clear, filled with tears of frustration as she looked at Ray. "Ray, you gotta believe me. I didn't do any of this. Winnie and the others might not trust me, but I don't want you to get the wrong idea."

"If that's how it is, I'll go to the police station. Let them investigate and clear my name."

"Ms. Anderson, there's no need to be so dramatic!"

Winnie sneered at Darcy's confident declaration and glanced at the police. "Criminals never admit their guilt before they're caught. Officers, make sure you interrogate her thoroughly!"

To Winnie, Darcy's story was full of holes. In such a major kidnapping case, with multiple kidnappers involved, it was impossible that no one would implicate Darcy, especially since she was supposedly orchestrating everything behind Lynn's back.

Moreover, when faced with such a dire situation, wouldn't Lynn try to shift all the blame onto Darcy to save herself?

Lynn would likely confess, and both of these malicious women would be sentenced together!

Winnie was certain that Darcy's reappearance had ulterior motives, likely targeting her old enemies.

She hadn't missed the cold, murderous glint in Darcy's eyes when she looked at her.

Darcy had used Lynn as a pawn to re-enter Lymington, hoping to rise again slowly.

But she hadn't anticipated that Lynn would be kicked aside by the unpredictable Jeremy. With Mia's true parentage revealed, Lynn was now in a precarious position and could no longer shield her.

The kidnapping of Mia was undoubtedly Darcy's idea. She hated both Winnie and Olivia, wishing for their family's ruin. What was she plotting through Lynn's kidnapping?

Darcy was no good person.

And tonight, she had suddenly turned from a kidnapper to a "rescuer," likely because she saw Lynn's downfall.

Darcy's malicious heart was chilling.

"Take her away! Start over and interrogate her properly!" Winnie ordered coldly, her eyes filled with hatred.

"I agree! Inform your superiors that no one is to protect Darcy," Jeremy commanded sternly as he carried Mia to the ambulance.

The police, wary of Jeremy's status as the DeRoss Family heir, nodded immediately. "Mr. DeRoss, rest assured."

As Jeremy withdrew his gaze, he glanced at Ray, whose face was slightly pale.

Ignoring any potential conflict with Ray, he reminded him in a deep voice, "Ray, stay out of this. The police will investigate thoroughly. The innocent won't be wronged, and the guilty won't escape."

Two officers cuffed Darcy's wrists, showing the handcuffs.

Darcy's bright, weak eyes, glistening with the night's moisture, looked at Ray. As she descended the steps, her frail body swayed backward, and Ray, feeling guilty, stepped forward to support her.

Darcy clung to Ray's large hand, her eyes filled with a bitter smile. "Ray, I'm scared... I didn't expect to be caught by Ms. Anderson and the others after sneaking back."

"Forget it, don't get involved. I don't want to make things difficult for you. But... if something happens to me at the police station, please take care of my body."

Darcy's tearful eyes were pitiful.

Ray hadn't forgotten that his life was saved by Darcy from the icy lake over a decade ago.

He owed her his life.

Ray gripped her shoulders, his brows furrowed, eyes resolute. "Darcy, don't talk like that. If you're innocent, it'll come out."

"But I'm scared. I don't have any power or influence now, and Ms. Anderson and the others..." Darcy's voice trailed off, sounding timid.

Winnie felt nauseated watching her.

Ray glanced at Winnie, then at Jeremy. If Jeremy applied pressure, the police might not handle the case fairly.

After a few seconds of thought, he said in a deep voice, "Don't worry, the case will be handled fairly. No one will interfere with the interrogation. I'll go to the police station with you."

"Mr. Martin!" Winnie tried to stop him. "You have no relationship with Ms. Ordelia. Why go to the police station with her? Don't forget, your wife is Laura, and she's already upset with you!"

Ray's body stiffened.

Darcy pushed him away sorrowfully. "Laura is missing? Ray... you shouldn't get involved."

She was taken away by the police, along with two kidnappers.

Ray rubbed his temples, standing rigidly and coldly with his long legs. He watched Darcy get into the police car, his brows deeply furrowed.

Winnie, seeing his hesitation, didn't miss the chance to provoke him. "If something happens to Laura, it's all your fault. Your unclear relationship with Darcy hurt Laura repeatedly! Now Darcy has reappeared after a year. What good intentions could she have? Can't you see that, Mr. Martin?"

"But if she kidnapped Mia, why was she so calm just now? Yes, she hurt you before, but people can change, Winnie. Besides, she's lost everything."

"People who lose everything will try to get it back!" Winnie retorted coldly. "Wait for the police investigation and Lynn's confession. You need to see Darcy clearly."

With that, Winnie rushed to the ambulance.

Because of Darcy's mess, she hadn't had a chance to check on Mia.

"How's Mia? Is she hurt?" Winnie asked as she climbed into the ambulance, not hearing any sound from Mia, no crying or Olivia's laughter.

She saw Olivia, pale and tearful, crouched by the stretcher. "The medics said she's unconscious and has a concussion, Winnie..."

Winnie's face changed, and Jeremy's expression grew even colder. "Don't worry. We'll wait for a thorough examination at the hospital. If there's a problem, I'll kill Darcy myself!"

In the police car.

Darcy looked through the rear window, seeing Ray's tall figure standing in the darkness.

Ray's deep, complex gaze followed her direction.

Darcy lowered her eyes to the handcuffs on her wrists, her pale pink lips calm, a strange smile forming. She squinted, a determined excitement flashing in her eyes.

She knew Ray still cared about her.

Back then, she had been imprisoned by Lawrence in a Lymington hospital, had a kidney removed, and was in a desperate situation. She had used Ray's soft heart, never admitting to poisoning Melissa in front of him. Who knows if Ray believed her?

In any case, she had played the weak victim, fasting and self-harming for nearly a month, until Ray agreed to help, secretly arranging for Lawrence's bodyguards to be diverted.

She had escaped that very night!
