Chapter 779 Offending The Harper Family
Angela said, "Lawrence took some medicine, how could he bear it without having sex? Winnie, it's not like you haven't seduced Lawrence before. You must have helped him in there."
"Helped him?" Winnie looked coldly at Angelina. "And Lawrence took some medicine? What did he take? Ms. Harper, your good friend seems to know a lot. Did you do something to Lawrence tonight? Your goal wasn't to sleep with him, was it?"
As soon as she said this, everyone in the room widened their eyes.
Angelina glared at Angela, wishing she could kick her out. Who told her to say that? She had the upper hand, but now she quickly felt guilty.
"Winnie, stop talking nonsense. We're talking about your affair with Lawrence, don't slander me." Angelina clenched her fists and roared.
Winnie chuckled lightly, her calm eyes glancing at Samuel, whose expression had slightly changed. "Mr. Harper, it seems Angelina might have used some means on Lawrence? Mr. Jenkins just said that Ms. Harper was looking for Lawrence anxiously. A girl in her early twenties, so determined to get Lawrence at a party? If word gets out, people might not believe it. They might think you dote on Angelina and secretly support her, right? If the drugging incident gets out, the whole Harper family might..."
Winnie didn't finish her sentence.
Samuel understood the gravity of the situation. He glared at Angelina. He had only given her tacit approval to pursue Lawrence, but he didn't tell her to use such underhanded methods.
"Mrs. Harrington, let's not jump to conclusions. There must be some misunderstanding. My daughter Angelina is very upright!" Samuel suppressed his anger and smiled at Winnie.
Angelina looked at Samuel's apologetic demeanor and felt indignant. Samuel was the future vice president, who was Winnie to him?
She shook Samuel's arm, dissatisfied. "Dad, why are you being polite to her? I haven't done anything shady, and she dares to spread rumors! Besides, she's the one shamelessly having an affair with Lawrence. I must expose her scandal."
Samuel slapped Angelina. Angelina still didn't understand that she had been caught red-handed. With so many people in the room, if word got out that she drugged Lawrence, how could she marry well in the future?
Samuel hadn't specifically chosen Lawrence; in his eyes, Angelina was his tool to climb to the highest position in Veridiania through marriage.
"Dad! Why did you hit me?" Angelina was stunned by the slap, and when she came to her senses, her eyes were red. She pointed incredulously at Winnie. "It's that bitch having an affair in there. Look, the bathroom is all wet!"
Winnie glanced at the bathroom, about to say something.
Bentley stepped out, smiling calmly. "Angelina, stop imagining things. I was just using the bathroom in there. As a man, I accidentally splashed some water, so I used the shower to rinse it off."
"Bentley, you're covering for her. Are you even my cousin?" Angelina couldn't hold back her anger.
Bentley rubbed his nose, unable to stand Angelina's malicious tactics. "Everyone, stop talking. Shut up, Angelina." Samuel saw she was about to cause more trouble and wished he could sew her mouth shut.
Tonight's incident was clearly Angelina's doing something to Lawrence. This must not get out. Therefore, Samuel had to suppress his temper, look coldly at Winnie, and forcefully apologize. "Mrs. Harrington, it's Angelina's immaturity that caused you trouble. I apologize on her behalf."
Winnie pursed her lips indifferently. "Mr. Harper, there's no need to apologize. But in the future, we won't dare to attend Ms. Harper's parties easily. We've been wronged for no reason. First, a maid from The Harper Family called me out in the hall, took me to the pool, and tried to push me in. When I wasn't harmed, the maid accused me of trying to ruin Ms. Harper's party out of jealousy for Ms. Harper and Lawrence. I thought I'd come upstairs to hide, but then Ms. Harper blatantly accused me of having an affair. I really don't know how I offended Ms. Harper."
Winnie became more expressionless as she spoke. "Mr. Harper, Ms. Harper has a noble status. She can say whatever she wants, and I dare not offend her. But have you considered that I'm a married woman? If she slanders me like this, my reputation will be completely ruined."
Samuel's eyes darkened. He didn't expect Winnie to be so unyielding. He had already verbally apologized, which was giving her respect. Yet she brought up all these issues.
But tonight, he had to shut Angelina up. Samuel squinted his eyes and reluctantly said, "I didn't expect you to suffer so much. I will make Angelina apologize to you, and I will fire that maid. Angelina, apologize!"
"Dad." Angelina's eyes were full of anger.
"Apologize!" Samuel's face was cold. He added, "Mrs. Harrington, tonight was a misunderstanding. I hope you will also hold your tongue. If Angelina is affected, I will hold you accountable."
At this point, Angelina understood Samuel's true intention. She couldn't let the drugging incident get out. She clenched her fists, glared at Winnie with eyes full of hatred, and shouted, "I'm sorry!" After shouting, she ran off.
Samuel watched Angelina's aggrieved back, then turned to Winnie with a stern face. "Mrs. Harrington, are you satisfied now?"
"I'm not dissatisfied," Winnie said lightly. "I just think Ms. Harper is too young and bold. If she is allowed to do whatever she wants, she might bring trouble to you in the future."
"Thank you for your reminder." Samuel sneered, wishing he could tear Winnie apart. Winnie dared to challenge his authority.
Bentley stepped in to mediate. "Mr. Harper, Angelina is also upset. You should go comfort her. Tonight was just a misunderstanding. Let's not misunderstand each other, right, Winnie?"
"Of course," Winnie nodded.
Samuel looked at Bentley and understood that Winnie wouldn't spread the drugging incident. Fine, other matters would be dealt with separately. He walked out.
Winnie and her group reached the hall entrance, and Rock quickly came over after receiving Samuel's notification. He had been accompanying some officials for tea, discussing the upcoming city planning, hoping to secure a piece of land in the new district.
Suddenly, he received Samuel's notification to escort Winnie out. Samuel said it was late, but Rock understood they were being kicked out! He didn't know what Winnie had done to upset Samuel, but even he was kicked out of the party. Rock suppressed his anger, seeing Bentley there, and held it in.
