Chapter 44 Investing Once

Winnie angrily opened her mouth and immediately took a few sips.

He smirked and asked, "Is it bad?"

"Yes," said Winnie deliberately but it wasn't actually bad. His culinary skills were pretty good.

The man arched his eyebrows and lowered his head. "Then, let me try it."

Instead of tasting it from the bowl, he held her face and kissed her. "Mmm."

He did that before she could even finish her sentence.

Winnie resisted but it had been a while since he had been so intimate with her and his heavy breaths made her turned weak. She grabbed a piece of his shirt and crinkled it in her grip.

The man's back was all muscle which made Winnie blushed and didn't dare touch it.

He regulated his breath a bit, released her, and placed his hands on her waist. "You can explain now."

Why this man behaved in such a manner puzzled her. After bullying her, he still had the audacity to say this. It was unclear who should be the one doing the explanation.

Winnie pushed him away and stood up, annoyed. "There's nothing for me to explain. Your personal phone was answered by a woman. From this point, it's clear that you're not as clean as you seem. I won't interfere with your personal life in this marriage agreement but if you're promiscuous, don't try to flirt with me. Do you understand?"

As soon as she finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room became tense.

The man walked toward her, a chill radiating from him. "I'm promiscuous?"

"Isn't that right?" Winnie clarified. "Eight days ago, I called you in the afternoon and a woman answered, calling you by your nickname, L."

He frowned and handed her his phone directly. "Here, check it yourself."

Winnie looked at him in surprise.

When a man has something to hide, they would never hand over their phone but he seemed indifferent.

Winnie felt a little embarrassed but she was not willing to admit defeat. She opened the call log.

She looked through it and that call record from eight days ago was gone.

Winnie smirked. "You deleted it, Mr. L. Perhaps, that woman deleted it."

"No matter who deleted it…" he pushed her against the wall and coldly mocked. "Even if I really had another woman, do you think I would stoop so low as to hide it from you?

"Who do you think you are? Besides, there was never such a thing."

Winnie felt a sudden sting in her heart and thought he was really a scumbag.

"Who do I think I am?" Winnie repeated his words.

She was hurt and coldly pushed him away and said, "Yeah, I'm just a tool."

"Don't be so sarcastic. You've always been pushing me away. If you want to be a part of my life then you need to work hard for it."

The man gripped her face and leaned in with a firm yet gentle tone as he gazed directly into her eyes. Mischievously, he uttered, "Allow me to clarify something. I'm not particularly drawn to women. If I ever have an urge, it's merely a craving and it's entirely your fault. You chose to sleep with me, so you bear the responsibility, got it?"

Winnie was stunned. It took a while for her to vaguely understand the meaning behind his words.

Her cheeks turned red as he implied that she was his first woman.

Her ears burned and she trembled as she said, "Don't talk to me about this, I don't understand. And don't pretend that I should be the one holding responsibility when clearly you're the one benefitting from it."

"If you want to benefit something from me, I'm willing to serve." He flashed an evil grin.

"After all this talk, you still don't show any sincerity and you're still not explaining that woman's call." She coldly snorted.

The man wrapped his arms around her waist, squinting with satisfaction. "Despite all our discussions, your jealousy persists. It's entertaining to witness your envy toward other women. How will you react if there are indeed other women in this house?"

Winnie kept a stiff face and denied. "I'm not jealous. You can go find other women if you want."

"Is that so?" He lowered his head and exhaled.

Winnie was irritated by his breath and pushed him away.

He took her hand and led her to the bedside, opening a drawer to reveal some medicine.

He rolled up his trousers and Winnie saw a rather large wound on his knee which caused her to furrow her brows in surprise. "Did you get injured that night?"

He responded coldly, "Wouldn't we both be injured if it weren't for me? Apply the medicine for me."

Winnie thought, 'You were the one who kicked the table in frustration, how could you be stronger than the table?'

She obediently opened the medicine and carefully changed the dressing for him and then wrapped it with gauze.

Her hands were slender and beautiful, like a sketch, and the man suddenly asked, "Did your stepsister steal your artwork?"

Winnie thought that he finally found out. She looked up and said, "Are you going to help me?"

"Do I look like I would help you? Have I calmed down?" He said coldly.

Winnie pouted. She hadn't made peace with him yet and he still hadn't explained the phone call and that woman.

Feeling dejected, she said, "Then, I'll go find Lawrence, that dead rival. Since he has all the power and he's also interested in me, I'll just sacrifice myself."

The man's aura turned cold and he asked with a sinister tone, "Lawrence is interested in you? Are you sure?"

"Yeah, he's so handsome. Although he's a bit sleazy on the inside, he's still a good boyfriend," Winnie deliberately provoked him.

"Is that so?" The man pursed his lips, his voice dark. "How did you become his girlfriend?"

"In our transactional relationship which you have no say in."

"How dare you!" He held her tightly. "Lawrence doesn't appreciate you, a pregnant woman."

"How do you know? Do you know him? If so, can you help me establish a good relationship with him?" she immediately asked.

"Hmph!"

The man stood up coldly, picked up his suit jacket, and said, "Shut up. You've caused enough trouble tonight. Just sleep here."

Winnie subconsciously asked, "Where are you going? Aren't you going home?"

"I have plenty of houses. I'll just find one randomly," he said angrily.

Winnie had considered inviting him home. She was concerned about Madam Rodriguez and she had intended to put on a show. However, despite her clear communication, he continued to behave in this manner.

Winnie lost her temper and said, "Then, go find one! It's not like it has anything to do with me!"

The man looked at her, clearly angry, but pretended not to care. He smirked. He didn't try to appease her and proceeded to just close the door as he turned away.

Outside the door, Benjamin had just finished his work and felt like he had missed out on a great opportunity.

"Mr. L, you've been hiding away from home these days, almost driving us crazy. Jeremy just said that Winnie came. Oh, I heard that you've already made up with her? She sure is really impressive. What have you been doing in the room with her?" he asked with a lewd smile.

The man glanced at him and in a cold tone said, "Go and check the call records on my phone that were deleted on October 1st."

"What?" Benjamin was completely puzzled.

"Jeremy," the man said as he walked toward the elevator.

Jeremy lazily leaned against the wall and raised his eyes in annoyance. "What's the matter now?"

In the suite, Winnie was stewing in anger and had just thrown a pillow at the door.

The doorbell rang.

She awkwardly stood up and wondered if it was him who had come back.

She opened the door and peered outside. Jeremy's eyes playfully met hers. "Ms. Winnie, it's me. Please don't toss anything."

"Oh, it's you. Don't worry, I won't." Winnie felt very embarrassed.

Jeremy presented a high-end paper bag that emitted a fragrant aroma and said, "You didn't eat much for dinner. Have some more."

Winnie was pleasantly surprised and said, "Thank you so much, Mr. Jeremy."

"You're welcome. Mr. L bought it and said that you might still be angry. It's easier to get hungry if you don't sleep," the man said with a gentle and refined expression.

Winnie instantly blushed with anger when she heard that.
