Chapter 922 Secretly Collecting Evidence

Mia shook her head stubbornly. "I know what I feel, and I love you so much, Daddy!"

Jeremy's heart felt like it had been doused with scalding water, leaving him both pained and numb.

His eyes gradually grew moist, a misty haze threatening to engulf Mia.

But life is full of such cruel ironies; what you desire, you can't have. The ones you cherish end up hurting you.

If there were anyone who could heal him, it would be Mia, who was standing right in front of him.

He lightly tapped her nose, expressionless. "If you ever face difficulties, you can come to me. I'll help you."

"Daddy!"

"Stop calling me that," Jeremy said sternly.

"Daddy, you are my daddy," Mia insisted, though she couldn't explain why.

"Your mom has already made a choice for you. You'll have a little brother or sister soon. You and they are Sam's children. He's your dad," Jeremy said coldly, distancing himself.

"I don't want that. I don't want that," Mia shook her head vehemently, clutching his shirt sleeve.

Jeremy pressed his lips together. "Stop talking about this! When are you going back?"

Back?

Leave here?

Mia remembered she hadn't completed her task yet. Her eyes darted around anxiously like a cute little kitten, thinking Jeremy didn't notice. But he did, raising an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"

"I... I still want to talk to Daddy."

"It's getting late. It's not appropriate for you to stay here. Go back to your family."

"Wait... wait!" Mia looked up, staring at Jeremy's damp short hair. She slowly reached out her tiny hand, realizing she couldn't reach.

Her hands were too short. How could she pull out a strand of Jeremy's hair?

"What do you want now?"

"I... my stomach hurts!" Mia began to act, clutching her little belly while sneaking glances at Jeremy.

Jeremy watched her exaggerated expressions, not wanting to expose her.

He furrowed his dark brows. "Then go to the bathroom."

"I want Daddy to carry me. It hurts too much to walk."

Mia's plan was to climb onto Jeremy, giving her a chance to pull his hair.

Jeremy picked her up, her soft little body nestled in his arms, just as adorable as before. He was momentarily lost in thought, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He warned her, "Don't be so naughty next time. Just because I indulge you doesn't mean you can overstep."

"What are you talking about? It's too complicated for me to understand. I just know I want to play with you again! Can I?"

Jeremy didn't answer.

Play again? There would be no next time. If Olivia dared to step into the DeRoss Villa, he would throw them out!

He couldn't tolerate their new identity.

A flash of coldness crossed Jeremy's eyes as he carried Mia to the bathroom.

The bathroom, still steamy from his shower, had a towel hanging on the sink.

Seeing this, Mia quickly grabbed the large towel and said, "My stomach doesn't hurt anymore. Daddy, I see your hair is still wet. Can I help you dry it and then use the hairdryer?"

"What are you really up to? Are you going to the bathroom or not?" Jeremy frowned, his voice deepening.

"No, I just want to use the hairdryer."

"That's silly. Go back."

"No, please, just this once." Mia was so close to succeeding, and she couldn't give up now. She squeezed out a tear, looking at him. "Even if you don't say it, I know you don't want to see me again. I'm not stupid...

"You don't want me anymore. Your eyes say you don't want me. So let me hug you one last time, Daddy. I want to do something for you.

At home, I help Mommy dry her hair.

I'm really good at it, and I'm not afraid of the hairdryer's noise. I'll show you!"

She twisted her body, trying to reach the hairdryer hanging on the sink.

Jeremy, afraid she might fall and even more afraid of her tears, placed her on the sink. "Stand still!"

He took down the hairdryer, turned it on, and the whooshing sound filled the room. He frowned and asked, "What's so fun about this?"

"I'm not playing. I'm helping you dry your hair. I want to take care of you." She was very serious.

He had no choice but to let her.

This would probably be the last time he indulged her.

Jeremy handed her the hairdryer. Mia, though small, expertly handled the large device, standing on tiptoe to dry his hair carefully. "See, see, I really can do it."

Jeremy carefully held her short legs, bending down to help. "Just a few seconds will do. It dries quickly."

A few seconds wouldn't be enough. Winnie said she needed to pull several times.

But how could she do it without him feeling pain and noticing?

Mia's eyes darted around anxiously, then she suddenly stared at the hairdryer's nozzle. She remembered Oscar's warning: never let the nozzle touch hair, as it could get sucked in, causing burns.

So... sorry, Jeremy!

Mia bit her lip, moving the nozzle closer. She suddenly saw Jeremy watching her in the mirror, and she was terrified. His gaze was too sharp.

Her small hand trembled, but she quickly thought of a plan. "Daddy! There's a shadow outside the door. I'm scared!"

Jeremy, finding Mia's behavior odd, turned to look outside the bathroom. It was dark, and many kids were afraid of unfamiliar places. He was about to check—

His scalp hurt! Then it hurt again, four or five times in quick succession.

"What are you doing?" Jeremy frowned, raising his hand. At that moment, a spark flashed by his temple, causing a sharp pain!

"Mia... It's on fire!" Jeremy saw in the mirror that his temple hair was singed.

And Mia had pressed the hairdryer nozzle against his scalp. "Let go! Let go now!"

Afraid she might get electrocuted, he quickly knocked the hairdryer away and unplugged it.

"Get down," Jeremy said, placing Mia on the floor and grabbing her hands. "Are you okay?"

"I... I'm fine..." Mia saw his handsome temple slightly burned and felt scared. Seeing Jeremy only concerned about her made her feel even more guilty. "I didn't mean to, Daddy. Let me put out the fire first!"

She hurriedly covered Jeremy's head with the towel.

Jeremy was almost speechless from her actions. Did she think he wasn't burned enough?

This clumsy behavior was just like Olivia!

He pried her small hands away, stood up, and splashed cold water on his face. "Don't worry about me. Check your fingers to see if they hurt."

"I'm really fine... Daddy, will you be disfigured?"

Mia's eyes filled with tears. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just wanted to..."

She clutched the strand of Jeremy's hair she had secretly pulled out, too scared to say anything.
