Chapter 970 Lawrence Did Not Contact Her
"You never gave me hope. In the end, our connection was too shallow. This child... might have been a boy, but he became our sacrifice. If you want to blame me for being heartless, I accept it. If you can't forgive me, so be it. But losing him, you bear some responsibility too."
Jeremy's large hand gripped hers before falling limply to his side.
He stared at Olivia's pale, tear-streaked face, his eyes bloodshot, his heart aching as if he couldn't breathe. He gasped for air, his thin lips pressed together, losing their color.
What a joke.
God was playing a cruel joke on him, stealing his memories from Azure Isle and then having Olivia kill his child.
"Might have been a boy..." Jeremy sneered, looking at Olivia with pain in his eyes, gripping her chin tightly. "How could you be so heartless? Olivia, how could you abort him? Do you hate me that much? I could explain everything that happened with Lynn. I asked you countless times if the child was conceived on Azure Isle. You denied it every time, saying it was Sam's... If you chose to hide it, why tell me the truth today? I get it, you just don't want to marry me. Every time we have hope, you cut it down precisely. You enjoy playing me like a puppet, don't you?"
Olivia shook her head helplessly. "Jeremy! I know it's hard for you to accept. I told you now because I didn't want you to find out later and feel even worse. I wanted you to think carefully, after this, can you still accept me? Losing the child hurt me too. You can't understand the feeling I had coming out of the surgery."
"I can't understand, so why did you abort him! When this child came, I didn't know I had lost my memory. When he left, I didn't know either! Was it your decision alone to not have him? Olivia, you're playing with my heart. I truly hate you. Our child, gone just like that?"
Jeremy roared, his uncontrollable anger pouring out at her.
Olivia, frightened by his cold gaze and presence, stepped back. She wiped the tears from her face, her vision blurred, seeing his icy eyes. Then his tall figure turned and stormed out, not saying a word.
He was hurt.
He couldn't accept it, couldn't forgive her.
But at that time, under immense pressure, he sided with Lynn. She needed to save Jake, what else could she do?
He didn't understand, couldn't see her helplessness. The pain of losing a child made him irrational.
This marriage, it wouldn't happen. There was no hope between them.
Olivia covered her eyes, tears soaking through. At the bedroom door, Mia walked over anxiously. She had heard Jeremy storm out and didn't know what had happened.
But she was very worried. Were her parents fighting again?
They hadn't even reconciled yet.
Mia, with an IV drip, started crying softly. "Mommy, why is Daddy so angry? What are you fighting about? His eyes were red."
"Yes, he's angry at me... Maybe he won't forgive me, and I can't forgive myself either."
Olivia, with red-rimmed eyes, walked over and hugged the injured Mia. "But no matter how bad things get between your dad and me, you still have a dad. Don't worry."
"If you guys can't make up, how can I not worry? Where did Daddy go?" Mia pouted. "If Daddy won't talk to you, can you ask Ms. Anderson to find him and talk to him?"
Olivia was startled, remembering Winnie had called her earlier.
She walked back to the bedside to pick up her fallen phone, about to call Winnie back, when she saw a text message from her.
The content made Olivia's heart skip a beat: [Olivia, Mr. Smith has survived the transplant rejection. He's showing stable vital signs and breathing. He might wake up soon.]
"That's great." Olivia's heart raced, her eyes brightening.
Finally, something was going right!
Her thoughts shifted temporarily, and she immediately dialed Winnie.
For some reason, Winnie didn't answer. Maybe she was busy at the hospital?
Olivia didn't wait any longer. She looked around the unfamiliar bedroom, planning to change clothes and head to the hospital to meet Winnie, see Jake, and then talk to Winnie about Jeremy...
Ten minutes earlier.
Winnie walked out of Jake's room, removed her mask, and stretched her tired body.
She had called Olivia, but Olivia didn't answer. Maybe she was still unconscious at the DeRoss Villa, so Winnie sent a text.
Her phone had a video from the Rodriguez Family's maid, showing her two sons doing well at the Rodriguez Family's cottage.
Winnie smiled, her gaze lingering on Lawrence's WhatsApp.
She had been in Lymington for over a week, mostly dealing with Olivia and Jeremy's issues, but Lawrence hadn't called her once since he went abroad nearly ten days ago!
Winnie was frustrated and couldn't help but worry.
She had told Ray firmly that Lawrence shouldn't contact her, and she wouldn't inquire about his whereabouts. Their relationship was at a standstill.
Oscar usually kept her informed about Lawrence, but he hadn't called her in a week either.
They were collectively hiding Lawrence's whereabouts...
She wondered how Lawrence's 'business trip' was going. What were they hiding from her?
Winnie frowned, her fingers repeatedly scrolling through Lawrence's chat box, remembering that Bryan was holding Lawrence's phone.
She pouted and closed the chat.
Her phone rang simultaneously.
She glanced at it, a local Lymington number. Winnie hesitated, then stepped away to answer, "Hello, who is this?"
"Ms. Anderson, Darcy, who was detained at the holding center, has been cleared of involvement in the kidnapping after several rounds of interrogation and suspect statements. She will be released after noon once the paperwork is done."
"What?" Winnie changed her tone. This couldn't be true.
"Mr. DeRoss ordered a thorough investigation last night! The six kidnappers and Lynn, who were arrested, all knew her. It's impossible they didn't implicate her!"
The caller stammered, "We conducted a thorough interrogation. But surprisingly, not only did the six kidnappers claim not to know Darcy, but Lynn also didn't implicate her. Lynn admitted she was the mastermind. The case is moving to the next stage of prosecution..."
