Chapter 145 Elliott Meets Lawrence R
"Winnie!" At this moment, Olivia came with the medicine.
She tilted her head forward and suddenly got angry. "Mr. L! How can you hold that bitch, Darcy? You..."
"Stop it, let's go." Winnie pulled her up coldly, her hand gripping Olivia's palm tightly, and she walked away resolutely.
Her indifference and disregard puzzled Olivia and filled the man behind her with rage.
She just left like that? Every time she saw him with Darcy, she was not jealous.
L waited for her to get angry and approach him.
But she suddenly walked away, leaving him feeling disappointed and frustrated, like landing a punch on cotton.
L stopped his pursuit, feeling somewhat embarrassed and resentful, staring at her pale face, clearly showing signs of illness.
It had only been three days since their fight, how did she end up like this?! And what was that sadness in her eyes?
L felt restless and agitated.
"Mr. L, it was just an accident earlier. Did it cause Mrs. L to misunderstand something?" Darcy sighed anxiously.
"Look at the way she looks, does it seem like a misunderstanding? Just ignore her," L coldly carried her back to the hospital room, unable to be harsh with her, "Don't think too much, just rest."
The man left with an icy demeanor. The hospital room door closed, and a cold smile appeared on Darcy's lips. She...
After witnessing Winnie's distraught appearance, Darcy walked into the restroom and made a call to Mrs. Ordelia.
"Mom, it turns out Winnie's uncle came back a couple of days ago, just as you said. Triton and Imperial are enemies. Today, she looked at Mr. L with so much pain that she didn't even care about me anymore."
Mrs. Ordelia smiled mischievously and said, "Your chance has come, my daughter. With your intelligence, you will seize it tightly."
"Of course," Darcy narrowed her eyes and hung up the phone, then dialed someone she trusted. "Help me investigate someone, Winnie's uncle. Keep an eye on him starting today."
Darcy looked at the hideous wound on her wrist. She was willing to sacrifice her innocence just to return to Lymington.
This was all because of Winnie; she would stay in Lymington and take back L, seeking revenge against Winnie!
L returned to the company, unable to resist calling Benjamin to subtly inquire about Olivia and her illness. What was she suffering from?
Was Olivia holding some herbs in her hand?
However, Benjamin's efficiency this time was rather low. He said that Olivia simply refused to answer the phone.
L's cold eyebrows furrowed as he leaned back and loosened his tie. His noble and slender fingers became rigid with determination. "Luke!"
Luke quickly appeared in the office.
"You bring her over to work, giving her the position of Vice President at the Kingdom Estates. She hasn't shown up for a few days."
Luke understood the CEO's mood to some extent, but this request seemed a bit excessive.
"Mr. L, Mrs. L is obviously ill. She started taking leave two days ago and has been on leave for a week now. Today, upon seeing you and Miss Ordelia at the hospital, she may be feeling upset. How about I have the family doctor at the villa visit Miss Smith's apartment?"
The man suppressed his cold anger and remained silent.
Luke immediately began the task.
Half an hour later, the family doctor called, "Miss Smith kicked me out. Is Mrs. L unwilling to accept Mr. L's help?"
Luke failed to mute the sound that came through the phone.
Suddenly, he felt a wave of icy coldness emanating from behind the desk.
With a crisp sound, files were forcefully opened, and L's voice carried a hint of frost, "Let her be!"
It was strange. Miss Ordelia returned to Lymington after her suicide attempt, and Mrs. L, who was intelligent and wise, shouldn't have this attitude.
She deliberately pushed L away, disregarding him.
Mr. L was probably angry because of that.
L found this woman inexplicable these past few days. Was she really going to have a cold war with him because of Darcy? He couldn't be bothered to placate her!
Three days passed, and Winnie kept avoiding making a decision.
The day she saw him intimately taking care of Darcy at the hospital, her heart turned cold. If he also gave her unwavering affection, it would have given her at least a small amount of courage.
But perhaps, he never did.
Even Winnie couldn't do it. With a little strategy, Darcy couldn't ignore her.
In her anger, she felt that she should stand on her uncle's side.
But once she started, there was no turning back. Betraying him and leading her uncle step by step into the abyss was an unimaginable pain for Winnie.
She spent her days sitting in her room, lost in thought.
Olivia was extremely worried, "Winnie, Laura and I have no idea what's wrong with you. Even if Darcy returns to Lymington, Laura hasn't been as affected as you. You didn't even let L's doctor examine you that day. Are you planning to completely ruin things with Darcy for good?"
Winnie looked at her best friend in pain. How could she explain? Is it really over between her and L?
The phone suddenly rang silently.
Winnie lowered her head, her pupils dilating heavily, her fingers trembling.
Caller ID: Husband.
It was half a month ago, on that incredibly sweet day in the office when she secretly changed the contact name.
Thinking that from that day onward, they would truly become husband and wife...
Winnie took a deep breath, unsure whether she should answer or not.
Olivia quickly picked up the call for her when she saw it was L calling and handed the phone to her ear.
There was silence on the other end of the line, the man's breath deep and noble.
Then he said coldly, "Your uncle came to find me. He suspected that we had an argument, and I think you should come and explain."
Winnie's breath hitched, her heart suddenly racing.
How could her uncle go to him without her knowledge?!
Could it be?
Winnie already had a bad guess in her mind.
She hastily controlled her breathing and whispered, "Okay, I'll come right away."
She hurriedly changed clothes and left the house.
Olivia shouted from behind, "Take it slow, your belly is getting bigger!"
Arriving at the café, Winnie saw the distinguished man sitting tall by the window, while her uncle sat in a wheelchair looking frail.
Her face turned pale, her gaze fixed on her uncle. She had sent several text messages on the way, but her uncle hadn't replied to any of them.
Winnie approached nervously. Perhaps her anxious breathing gave her away.
L looked at her through his mask, her pale face steamed by the heater, displaying an abnormal shade of red. It made her appear even more fragile and fearful.
She looked much thinner, too. How could she dare lose weight while pregnant?
Was it better to pick a fight with him like this?
L stared at her face, unable to let go, a flicker of heartache in his eyes.
"Sit," he spoke coldly, taking the initiative.
Winnie didn't know how to face this situation. Looking closely at his face, his expression, her heart beat too fast.
Suppressing every nerve.
Her uncle smiled and spoke, "Winnie hasn't brought you to meet me for so many days. I wondered if you two were having a conflict. Or, does Mr. L have any thoughts about having such a relative?"
"No, Mr. Granger," L replied succinctly, his attitude distant and elegant.
Winnie's gaze remained on her uncle, unsure of what he was up to.
