Chapter 237 Fighting for the Child's Life.
In the southern airport, Lawrence R opened his computer immediately after getting off the plane and connected to the surveillance cameras at the sanatorium. However, the connection remained unsuccessful.
"Luke, there's a delay in the surveillance.” He turned coldly, his brows furrowing slightly, immediately calling the sanatorium.
The director personally answered and stammered, saying that the signal in the mountains was not very good and was being repaired.
Luke was urgently reporting the endless problems at the factory level, but standing tall and imposing in the airport, he didn't absorb any of it. People surged around him, and he emanated a chilling aura with his eyebrows twitching.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number, starting with an international code. Did it look like a spam call? But it only rang once!
For some reason, Lawrence R found it strange. He subconsciously dialed back, but couldn't get through. What on earth was going on?
What was so off about tonight? His right eye suddenly twitched, as if something was about to happen.
"Mr. Rodriguez? Mr. Rodriguez?" Luke called him several times.
The man slowly turned his head, glancing at the thin sweat that inexplicably appeared in his palm. "The surveillance from the sanatorium cannot be connected. Damn, how could those idiots mess things up? Don't worry about this side; I'm going back."
Luke was taken aback. Mr. Rodriguez seemed off tonight, his mind restless the whole time. He hadn't even rested on the plane.
He didn't dare to say much and immediately turned to instruct the airport manager, "Arrange for Mr. Rodriguez's private plane to return."
"Choose the shortest flight route, reduce it to two hours. Find out what's happening at the sanatorium?!"
Lawrence R clenched his brow tightly and hurried back to the cabin...
On her way back to the mansion Darcy received a call from one of the thugs she had left behind to end Winnie, "What did you say? Useless! Her water broke, and you let her escape?!" unable to believe it.
She was furious! She left the scene to clean herself up and then busied herself with arranging some 'evidence.' By then, she would turn the tables on tonight's situation, even falsifying herself as the 'victim.'
As long as the child was cut to death, the inn was burned to ashes, and all the secrets died with Winnie in the fire tonight.
Then she would orchestrate it so that Winnie and Olivia were the ones who kidnapped her...
"How did you let her escape? What about the others?" Darcy's eyes flashed with sinister intent.
Swiftly turning the car around, she headed back.
When she returned to the inn and saw the blood stains and several thugs with missing flesh or severed wrists, her brow throbbed intensely.
"Miss Ordelia, you weren't present just now. A dying woman is terrifying. She fought us with all her might to protect her child..."
Only one thug remained unscathed. He wiped the blood from his eyes and pointed to the road behind the inn's back door.
"She took the surgical knife and the car keys. She's severely injured, and with the amniotic fluid rupture, there's a risk of major bleeding at any moment. She won't get far!"
Darcy slapped the thug, seething with anger. "Gather people and find her immediately. If you find her, kill her on the spot. Hurry!"
Anxiously glancing around the room, she ruthlessly commanded, "Burn this place down quickly." Darcy got in her car. That damn woman was resisting to the end. She swiftly drove away.
Winnie, with heavy eyes, drove the car at full speed. She didn't know how she managed to make it through in that room, but as a mother, she gave it her all to prevent the knife from cutting open her abdomen and to stop Darcy from killing her baby.
It was so painful, the sharp pain in her belly, and a large amount of blood continuously flowed out, soaking the seat.
She felt her baby becoming still, and if she waited a few more minutes, it would suffocate inside her. What should she do? There was no one on the dark roadside.
Behind her, the people arranged by Darcy, like wolves and tigers, were definitely chasing her.
Helpless, she gritted her teeth and abandoned the car, enduring the excruciating pain, and let the car roll down the hill.
She ran in the opposite direction, crossing the guardrail of the mountain road and hiding in the trees along the slope.
The moon shifted westward, casting a bleak and cold light, and the salty sea breeze blew fiercely.
This was by the seaside, proving that she was still within the range of the sanatorium in the mountains.
She originally intended to endure a little longer, to keep her baby and herself a bit safer. But suddenly, a gush of blood poured out from her legs, and she screamed in agony as she fell onto a stone mill.
The baby was going to be premature. She felt her cervix spreading apart violently. If she didn't give birth now, it would really suffocate in her womb.
She could even feel its tiny, pitiful head desperately pushing downward. It wanted to live, poor little thing.
Winnie tearfully ripped a piece of cloth and stuffed it into her mouth. She lay down in the bone-chilling wind, trying to spread her legs apart and holding the surgical knife in her hand, with her other hand gripping the stone. And then she exerted force.
"Ah..." she sorrowfully cried out, the sound of piercing pain cutting through the night sky, but there was no response, as if it had been swallowed up by the endless ocean below.
A long time ago, when she was favored by him, she never imagined that one day she would be hiding in the wilderness, secretly giving birth prematurely to protect this child, enduring all the pain and torment alone.
A long time ago, she also never imagined that she would be driven by a mistress to such a desperate situation. What exactly caused them to end up like this?
Lawrence R, every moment of pain reminds me to hate you.
Truly, I hate you...
Her mind gradually became unconscious, entangled in intense pain. She was drenched in cold sweat, biting the cloth and coughing up mouthfuls of blood, filled with despair.
She desperately tried to exert force, but she had no strength left. She was already heavily injured at the inn, and now she was on the verge of a difficult birth!
What should she do? Why couldn't she give birth? Winnie tired to keep a clear head but, she was in so much pain that she was about to faint.
Her belly had grown rapidly in the past two months, like that of a mother expecting twins, but the doctor had told her it was excessive amniotic fluid.
Could it be that the baby was not positioned correctly? Winnie anxiously clenched her teeth. Her brain was deprived of oxygen, her consciousness growing weaker. Her vision darkened, and she desperately told herself not to pass out.
The baby would suffocate...
In a daze, it seemed like something rushed out, accompanied by a large amount of amniotic fluid.
Winnie looked down half-dazed, wanting to touch and see if the baby had come out, but suddenly, her abdominal pain intensified.
She touched her belly and it still protruded. Despair engulfed her. Hadn't she given birth yet?
She pressed her hand against her belly, ruthlessly pushing downward, feeling the knife scraping against her.
The pain in her bones, numbed by repeated childbirths...
Finally, a feeble cry pierced through the night, so faint that it was almost inaudible.
"Child... my baby..." Winnie wept tears of joy!
Summoning her last bit of strength, she cut the umbilical cord with a knife. As she struggled, her pale slender hands reached slowly for the child beneath her, when suddenly a few dazzling lights flashed behind her head.
"She's over here!" shouted one of the thugs.
In a daze, Winnie tightly embraced her baby, holding it close to her chest. She wanted to get up, but couldn't find the strength.
Three or four henchmen approached, with the leader picking up the surgical knife from the ground, sinisterly toying with it. The flashlight's beam quickly illuminated her arms, and he shouted to the back,
"Can you believe this bitch actually gave birth to a child? Inform Miss Ordelia and Mr. Rodriguez."
Mr. Rodriguez? Winnie was speechless...
Her body as pale as death, she clung to the newborn baby as if she were mad. The intense pain of giving birth just now paled in comparison to her heart being torn apart at this moment.
Does he know she has given birth? The child is already here, and still, he doesn't want it! Will he use Darcy to get rid of them?
Why? Why is this happening?
"Lawrence R... I put all my effort into giving birth to it for you, the child I fought to bring into this world for you, and you still don't want it, Lawrence R, you heartless beast."
She was on the verge of madness, as if watching her heart crack inch by inch. She crawled backwards, staggering, trying to avoid the thugs attempting to snatch her child.
Avoiding that sinister knife...
