Chapter 672 A Chance Encounter with Bentley
Winnie noticed Bentley's eyes glued to Melanie's face.
He had a faint smile, a bit of tension in his brows, and was staring at the tie Melanie held.
Winnie quickly figured out Bentley had overheard their earlier conversation.
'Melanie wanted to give a tie to a guy, but who was it?'
Bentley's breathing got heavier, making Melanie nervous. She quickly moved closer to Winnie and greeted, "Hello, Mr. Jenkins!"
"Ms. Stewart, are you still working with Ms. Anderson at the Blanchet family?"
"Yes, Mr. Jenkins. Winnie is my cousin, and we're very close."
"Are you buying ties for clients or just helping her out?"
Bentley asked casually.
Winnie smirked, thinking, 'Bentley's trying to find out who Melanie's interested in.'
Melanie was caught off guard. The Jenkins Group was a big client for the Blanchet family, so she had to be honest, "Mr. Jenkins, the tie is for personal reasons. I can't say more."
Bentley's face darkened.
'This tie isn't for me. Melanie always saw me as a distant stranger.'
Bentley felt frustrated. 'I raised our daughter alone for four years, and Melanie still acts clueless.'
He turned to Winnie.
"Mr. Jenkins, anything else?" Winnie raised an eyebrow, hinting he should leave.
Bentley glared at her, then said, "Ms. Anderson, I have something to tell you. "
Thinking it was business, Winnie walked over. "Go ahead, Mr. Jenkins."
Bentley leaned in and whispered, "I heard Lawrence got into trouble at the police station and was rushed to the hospital last night."
Winnie was shocked. 'How could something happen to Lawrence at the police station?'
She tried to stay calm. "No way. Lawrence is tough. Even a dozen people couldn't beat him."
Bentley shrugged. "I don't know the details. They say he's badly hurt. My assistant checked with the police, but I don't know about the hospital."
Winnie stayed silent, frowning, trying not to think about Lawrence.
She snapped, "Mr. Jenkins, why are you meddling in other people's business? This is nonsense."
"How is it nonsense? It's about Lawrence! Have you completely abandoned him? I thought you might still care. Since you don't want to involve in, I won't count on you. Maybe I'll start with Lawrence and get Ishara to talk."
Bentley glanced at Melanie in the distance.
Winnie thought about Bentley's words. 'If I don't help, he'll find a way to make me.'
She lowered her gaze. "Mr. Jenkins, if you go to Ishara, don't expect your daughter to spend time with Melanie anymore."
"Threatening me?"
"Aren't you using Ishara to threaten me?" Winnie shot back.
"Stop arguing," Bentley said with a squint and a smile. "With the Peterson family now the top in Veridiania and Ronnie's twisted nature, he's not going to be a visionary. He'll want to shake things up in Trento City. Our families should stay friends, don't you think?"
"As long as Mr. Jenkins doesn't have any shady plans, I'm willing to be your friend."
"If we're friends, come with me somewhere later."
"Where?"
Bentley didn't answer but glanced at Melanie and gestured. "Ms. Anderson, bring your sales manager."
Winnie scoffed. "Mr. Jenkins, mixing business with personal matters is low."
"If I'm not a bit low, how can I win my wife?"
'His wife? Melanie still has no clue, right?'
Winnie was speechless but followed Bentley out of Stellar Mall.
She thought Bentley was taking her to a business dinner, but it turned out to be a grand charity auction. The parking lot was full of luxury cars, and security guards were everywhere. All the major families of Trento City were there.
Winnie's face darkened as she remembered something.
"Mr. Jenkins, how bored are you to bring me here?"
Bentley was excited. "Come on. The Rodriguez family estate is being auctioned tonight!"
Winnie was upset. "Do you think I can afford it?"
"I know you can't afford it now, but I might be able to. However, I won't buy it. I brought you here as a friend to have fun here."
Winnie wanted to blow a cold breath in his face.
'Bentley, always chasing fun. I wanted to break away from the Rodriguez family, but he keeps dragging me back.'
"Winnie, don't you want to see the Rodriguez family estate being auctioned?" Melanie asked.
Winnie pressed her lips together.
'Yes, I didn't want to see the Rodriguez family fall, for some unknown reason.'
Despite her hatred for Lawrence, she couldn't help but think of Grandma Rodriguez's kindness.
"Winnie, let's go then!" Melanie pulled her along.
Bentley's deep gaze caught Melanie in the dim light. He could only use his interactions with Winnie to get close to Melanie.
He suddenly said, "Winnie, tonight might get exciting. Ronnie and his people are already here. Do you know what they plan to do to the Rodriguez family estate?"
'Lysander said Ronnie might get the wealthy families to drive down the price.'
Winnie hesitated, feeling a bit masochistic. She decided to sit down and watch the fate of the Rodriguez family estate.
Bentley instructed his assistant, "Take Ms. Anderson and Ms. Stewart to the second-floor box."
Melanie and Winnie quietly arrived at a box on the second floor. There was a microphone in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for buyers to bid during the auction.
There were many items up for auction, with the Rodriguez family estate being the highlight and final item.
The box felt stuffy, so Winnie got up to go to the restroom.
When she came out, replying to company matters on her phone in the hallway, she accidentally bumped into Bob and Hellen.
