Chapter 294 The Connection of Love
A while passed in silence inside the car.
Oscar felt that his father's emotions were like the depths of the sea, hidden yet strangely damp, causing a sense of sadness.
Even Luke, holding onto the steering wheel, had a slight change in expression, trying to minimize his presence.
After a moment, Lawrence R picked up the fallen cigarette on the seat.
Struggling to steady his low and cold voice, the man coldly asked his son in return, "Sidney, did someone prompt you to ask such a question?"
"Of course not! I wanted to ask myself!" replied Oscar.
Lawrence R looked back at his son, understanding Sidney's character - a simple yet cold-hearted little rascal. How could he have such delicate thoughts?
The man fell silent for a while and asked in a low voice, "Did you meet with her? Did she influence you to ask this?"
"No, it wasn't Mommy! I really just guessed it myself."
Oscar anxiously defended himself, not wanting Mommy to take the blame for him.
"You guessed it? On what basis? How old are you? Children shouldn't meddle in adult matters."
Lawrence R sharply questioned, delivering a light reprimand, avoiding the real issue.
However, Oscar was not like Sidney, who would pout and coldly hum when scolded by Daddy.
Oscar spoke up directly, skillfully articulating his thoughts, "Why can't I guess like this? If Daddy didn't have any feelings for Mommy in the past, the way you looked at her today wouldn't be so angry and deep. It seems like you really dislike her, but you treasure and worry about me. If I were a child born to a woman you didn't love, would you treat me like this?"
Lawrence R pressed his thin lips together, the more he pressed, the tighter they became.
Over these three years, some secrets he deliberately ignored had been mercilessly exposed by a three-and-a-half-year-old child.
He sneered, unable to maintain a composed expression on his face, yet his gaze sank completely into darkness.
Fleeting pain, distant and long ago. The misty yet sweet memories.
At this moment, the man seemed to let go of a hint of cold, and his profile showed a touch of hidden desolation and vulnerability in the dim atmosphere.
"Daddy..." Oscar keenly noticed that his father's emotions had become even darker.
"Sidney, you shouldn't ask what you shouldn't ask," Luke in front whispered, seeing Mr. Rodriguez's state.
The brief days of affection between Mr. Rodriguez and Miss Anderson three years ago resurfaced in the mind of his subordinate.
Back then, Mr. Rodriguez truly cherished Miss Anderson and intended to spend his whole life with her.
But later, Miss Anderson's uncle returned, and she was forced to make a choice that betrayed Mr. Rodriguez, and everything changed.
The walls of trust are difficult to build but easy to destroy.
When Mr. Rodriguez was under attack and his mother, Madam Rodriguez, became permanently vegetative, Miss Anderson became the prime suspect.
No man can solely focus on the love between children.
Not to mention the deep affection between Mr. Rodriguez and Mrs. Rodriguez, which was dependent on each other!
And later, with Miss Ordelia's interference, Miss Anderson's affair with Rock was exposed. That was always a thorn in Mr. Rodriguez's heart...
Just as Luke was reminiscing, the man answered his son's first question indirectly.
His tone was cold, with a subtle hint of gloominess, "Sidney, you will become a man in the future, and Daddy will give you a piece of advice. Don't get lost in the sea of emotions, whoever you deeply love will have the weapons to hurt you the most! Don't give her that chance, Daddy can be a warning from the past."
After Lawrence R finished speaking, his gaze plunged into coldness, as the saying goes, the deeper the love, the stronger the hatred, it was not an empty phrase.
During these three years, countless sleepless nights, Lawrence R deeply experienced and resented it. But he could never abandon his child like that heartless woman, Winnie.
He wanted to hate her! He'd rather stay this way than let himself off the hook. Because only by hating can he be connected to her again...
If he were to delve deeper into his own heart, Lawrence R would rather not, because it had long been closed off.
After three years, this woman came back, carefree and without remorse, and he wouldn't easily let her go.
Why should she escape punishment while he endured the darkness for three years? Thinking about it only fueled his anger.
He realized that he had been unusually talkative today, and his emotions were fluctuating. Lawrence R fell silent, returning to his indifferent demeanor.
After a while, he opened the car door and seriously said to his son, "Even if you see her today and have a guess about her...She is your mommy, but Daddy tells you, Sidney, that you can never be with her. Give up on this hope, you were raised by Daddy, and Daddy doesn't have many loved ones. He can't be without you!"
Lawrence R would not tell his son the truth about Winnie abandoning him all those years ago.
No matter how heartless she was, he didn't want to shatter the child's illusions about his mommy, so he had to assert his dominance.
Oscar lifted his head abruptly, initially displeased with his cold attitude. But when he saw beneath his proud exterior, the genuine concern he had for Sidney, Oscar was deeply moved.
Sidney grew up being loved by his bastard father... No matter how terrible his father was, it wasn't Oscar's imagination that he cared so much for his son. He even claimed to not have many loved ones, giving off a sense of loneliness beyond his surface of being a scoundrel.
Oscar sighed, consumed by conflicting emotions. And besides... it seemed he had just received the answer to his first question. Daddy truly loved mommy deeply!
That dim look in his eyes just now couldn't deceive him. And it transformed from deep love to hatred!
Ah, it seems the scoundrel father also had some grievances. He needed to discuss with Sidney how to resolve the hatred between mommy and the scoundrel father.
At the entrance of the international kindergarten, Lawrence R held the hand of a little boy... A Maserati, came speeding up from behind.
Darcy, who had been abandoned at Christine's restaurant, was chasing after them.
She arrived a few minutes early and was currently engaged in an intense phone call, discussing with the Ordelia family parents.
"Mr. L seems to have noticed that something is off with Elliott's case this morning. He actually supports Winnie withholding Jeffery. I'm so angry with him, whose side is he on?"
Darcy was very angry that Lawrence R didn't protect her this time.
"Lawrence R has always been straightforward, it's only because you've influenced him these past three years that he misunderstands Winnie. Darcy, you must remain calm for now," Mr. Ordelia coldly said.
Mrs. Ordelia sneered, "Now Winnie has come up with a plan to report Jeffery's past drunk driving incident to the police. Her purpose is to keep him locked up in the police station, thinking that this way, we won't be able to touch him."
Darcy scoffed, "Jeffery is loyal to me. We also have leverage over his family and Jacob's family, so he won't cooperate with Winnie."
"Exactly, that's why Winnie's plan is bound to fail. After observing the police station for a few days, I'll have your father intervene. With crucial evidence and Elliott's blood test results, we won't let Winnie get what she wants. But for now, you must establish a relationship with Lawrence R! Only by linking the interests of the Ordelia family with his can we ensure that we won't fall into Winnie's trap."
Family found out about Elliott's case and had to forgive you. They turned a blind eye and protected you, understand?" Darcy understood, Winnie pressing closer.
She clenched her fists tightly, hung up the phone quickly, stepped out of the car, swallowed her resentment, and put on a gentle expression as she walked towards the man.
"Mr. L!" Lawrence R stood among a group of moms, attracting countless eyes.
He was about to send his child to school. He turned his head and saw Darcy, his expression indifferent.
"Why are you here too?"
