Chapter 920 Soft-hearted

Ray didn't budge. He crossed his long legs, his cold eyes locked on the dejected figure in front of him. "You hate Olivia, fine. But do me and Winnie a favor. Right now, compared to Lawrence and me, you're more powerful in Lymington than we are.

Besides, the truth about Jake is that Sam set Olivia up, and Lynn's probably involved, too. You're always fair. Are you really gonna side with Lynn? You don't even like her! Jake is in a bad spot; his heart condition is serious. Olivia's parents shouldn't suffer for this, right?"

Ray was pulling out all the stops to get him to save Jake.

Jeremy's thick eyebrows furrowed in frustration. He rubbed his temples hard, his cold eyes turning to his bodyguard.

He had actually instructed the bodyguard to investigate that morning.

But now, he had no interest in anything related to the Smith Family.

The bodyguard glanced at Jeremy, then at Ray, and finally spoke up. "Mr. Jeremy DeRoss, I investigated. Three days ago, Jake had a conflict with Joshua at The Thomas Group and ended up killing him. The Thomas Family has accused him of murder, and he's been detained. Olivia came back because of this. I also found out that the Thomas Family is related to Mr. Sam DeRoss..."

Jeremy's eyes narrowed.

Ray added, reminding him, "Olivia went after Lynn today for a reason. Lynn isn't a good person. Are you really gonna play the villain here? Do you think Olivia won't hate you for this?"

"Hate me enough to marry Sam? She'd marry the man who hurt her father just for the sake of her unborn child and some wealth!" Jeremy's voice was still filled with bitterness.

He was trapped in his anger.

All his hatred stemmed from his belief that Olivia's child wasn't his.

That was Olivia's unforgivable sin in his eyes.

What else was there to say?

No man could stand being deceived. Olivia had dug her own grave by hiding the truth from him.

Ray stood up, disheartened, his expression dark. "Think it over. Save him or not, it's up to you! Also, I brought Mia here. She's outside, eager to see you. She calls you Dad..."

"Take her away." Jeremy's face darkened, his eyes cold and complex. The word 'Dad' was a cruel joke to him now.

Because Mia was Sam's child, too!

He didn't hate Mia, he just didn't want to face her.

"Are you serious?" Ray glared at him. "Do you hate Mia too now? She's just a kid. She came all the way from Trento City to see you. Her trust and affection are genuine. Are you really gonna hurt her because of the adults' issues..."

Ray couldn't bear it.

Jeremy's heart ached slightly, a sharp pain flashing through him.

He loved Mia, not just liked, but a deep, instinctual love. From the first time he met her, he wanted to treat her as his own daughter.

Her big, watery eyes always looked at him, calling him 'Daddy.' Her soft body felt like a little cotton ball in his arms. Jeremy had never imagined what his daughter would be like until Mia appeared.

Yes, he hated Olivia, but he couldn't bear to blame Mia.

Veins bulged on Jeremy's forehead. After a suffocating silence, he leaned back against the sofa, letting down his guard, and spoke hoarsely, "If she hasn't left, bring her in."

Ray noticed the shift in Jeremy's demeanor, his smile fading as he worried Mia might get hurt. But he still turned and walked out, heading to the Lamborghini, and knocked on Mia's window.

Inside the living room, Jeremy stood up, his tall frame moving to the window. He lifted the curtain with his cold fingers, watching Ray bend down to talk to someone in the car.

The endless night swallowed the Lamborghini and the light in Jeremy's eyes.

His gaze deepened, and he closed his eyes, signaling with his hand.

"Mr. DeRoss, you..."

Jeremy gritted his teeth. "Go to the police chief tomorrow morning. Use my name, offer whatever he wants, and get Jake out."

The bodyguard was stunned! Just moments ago, Jeremy had no intention of helping.

"Why the sudden change of heart?" the bodyguard asked softly.

If only he knew the reason. Despite Olivia trampling on his pride countless times, why did he still extend a helping hand? He didn't know the answer... Maybe it was just that he could not tolerate Sam's wrongdoing.

He had seen a glimpse of Mia's face. So young, and she was about to lose her grandfather?

Jeremy despised himself. The softest part of his heart was still given to Olivia and her child.

Jeremy turned, his dark eyes glancing at the pile of bottles by the sofa. He yanked off his tie and headed to the bathroom. "Clean up this mess."

The servants immediately got to work.

The bodyguard stood behind, watching Jeremy's tall, straight back.

He was going to shower, probably to see Mia. He wanted the place cleaned up.

Jeremy's tenderness was all for Mia.

But unfortunately, Mia was Sam's child. The bodyguard felt a surge of anger for Jeremy!

Jeremy was so contradictory. The bodyguard sighed inwardly, softly saying, "Get Jake out." Jeremy would go to great lengths for this. Was it just to do a good deed? Impossible.

In the end, he couldn't bear to see Jake die.

When would Olivia understand Jeremy's heart?

The bodyguard left, feeling frustrated.

"Yay! Jeremy really agreed to see me?" Mia jumped out of the car, her little mouth still sticky with a lollipop, drool dripping. Benjamin was wiping her mouth.

Ray extended his hand. "I'll take you in."

"Mr. Martin, wait. Do I look pretty? Is my hair messy? Can you guys even do hair? I want to fix it..."

Ray's face darkened as he glanced at Mia. "We can't do hair!"

Mia looked at Benjamin, who was clearly gentler.

"Don't look at me, I can't either."

"You two are really useless." Mia reached out, touching her hair. Lena had done it for her, but the journey had probably messed it up.

She was worried, pouting at Ray. "I'm afraid Jeremy will dislike me... He's already mad at Mommy..."

Ray's heart softened.

He realized Mia was small but very sensitive. She knew Jeremy was angry...

Maybe growing up without a father made her so perceptive.

He sighed inwardly, squeezing her little hand. "Don't worry. If Jeremy dares to be mean to you, we'll be outside waiting. I'll go in and beat him up!"
