Chapter 196 There's Something Wrong with Darcy's Medicine.

Darcy sneered inwardly, then added, "I feel a bit cold. Ask Miss Anderson to bring me some clothes, a thermos bottle, and, oh, a pair of high heels."

As Luke listened, to Miss Ordelia’s requests it became clear that she was using Mrs. L as a maid, of some sort, unfortunately, Mr. L was so angry that he couldn’t hear what Darcy was really saying.

"Why are you wearing high heels?" Lawrence inquired after observing Darcy for a while.

"L, today is Valentine's Day," Darcy picked up some laughter,

"I was really looking forward to going on a date with you, but I didn't expect to end up in the hospital at the last minute. But I'm feeling better now. I've never been on a date with a man before..."
She looked at the extremely handsome man, her eyes filled with anticipation.

Lawrence R thought about her being ill and his indirect responsibility last night. What could he refuse her now?

He thought for a moment and said, "Well, when you feel better, I'll take you out for dinner."
Darcy's eyes brightened, and she held his big hand with both hands, "I also want to watch a movie."

"That's fine." He agreed.

"L... Are you trying to trick me, L?" Darcy tilted her almond-shaped eyes, full of laughter. She finally won once and now she was waiting for Winnie to arrive.

In the villa, Winnie was just about to cook dinner for herself.

A strange maid stood on the second floor and shouted aggressively to stop her, "Mr. L called and said Miss Ordelia is in the hospital. He asked you to send some clothes, a thermos, and high heels there quickly!"

Winnie hesitated. Why was Darcy in the hospital? Then she understood.

A cold smile appeared on the corner of her mouth as she refused, "Since you're her personal maid, you go."

"Luke said he wanted you to go. You're just a maid now. Would you dare not to go?"

The maid snorted and turned to walk into Darcy's room. She used a key to unlock the door and went in search of clothes.

Winnie watched as the door was opened and her eyes narrowed suddenly. She walked to the landline phone and tampered with it for a moment, then changed her mind and went upstairs.
"Have you found anything?" she walked in.

The maid, alert to Winnie’s presence, rushed out and blocked her outside of Darcy's room. "What are you doing coming in? Mr. L instructed us to be on guard against you and not allow you into the master's room."

Perhaps it was Darcy's instructions. The door was specially locked...

What secret did they want to hide from prying eyes? Winnie happened to be looking for an opportunity to investigate Darcy, so she waited silently.

Suddenly, the phone downstairs rang.
The maid quickly looked downstairs. Winnie crossed her arms. "As a maid, I'm not qualified to answer the master's phone. It's probably Miss Ordelia calling. Won't you answer it?"

The phone was ringing urgently, and the maid was afraid that it was really Darcy. They were all a bit afraid of her on regular days.

But it was troublesome to unlock the door. She didn't have time. She warned Winnie, "Stay here and don't move! You can't go in; I'll keep an eye on you!"

Saying that, she ran downstairs, but looked back at Winnie.

The landline phone on the first floor was in the corner, so it couldn't be seen from Darcy's room on the second floor.

The maid had just arrived and was not familiar with the layout. After she went downstairs, she was delayed by locating the phone. Winnie quickly sneaked into Darcy's room.

This used to be her and Lawrence R's master bedroom, so she was very familiar with the layout. The big bed remained unchanged, but now there were some medical devices and a nurse’s bed in the room.

As well the equipment for a bedside service of a doctor. Winnie quickly checked the medicine cabinet, which had medications for kidney removal surgery.

She opened the drawer below and discovered another identical set of medicines hidden inside.
They were all easily accessible drugs that could be bought at any pharmacy. Why did Darcy prepare so many?

Something seemed suspicious. Winnie took out a bottle of medicine from the bottom drawer and compared it to the ones on the counter.

They all looked like medication for kidney patients, but when she crushed a pill from each, the contents were completely different!

Her face froze, something crossed her mind, and she quickly wrapped up the two sets of medicines and hid them in her pocket.

As she closed the drawer, her peripheral vision caught sight of Darcy's bag hanging on the hanger, with its flap left open. It was Darcy’s personal items.

Winnie immediately walked over and moved it slightly, revealing a piece of red string tied to a damaged half ring...

Her eyebrows furrowed as she stared at that half ring, feeling a strange sense of familiarity...
Thud! Thud! Footsteps came from the stairs.

Without enough time to examine it closely, Winnie swiftly ran out as the maid approached.
The maid walked over and saw Winnie still standing at the door without moving, and she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

She immediately went inside, tossed Darcy's clothes and shoes to Winnie, locked the door, and said, "Hurry and deliver these, don't keep Miss Ordelia waiting!"

Winnie came out of the villa and specifically got into her own car, where she sat down.
She quickly took out the two packets of crushed powders.

The left one contained medicine for kidney patients, while she crushed the one on the right with her hand and carefully smelled it—it smelled a lot like a vitamin tablet.

To prove her speculation, she drove the car to a nearby pharmacy and handed the suspicious vitamin fragments to an experienced pharmacist, apologizing, "I accidentally lost the bottle and forgot what medicine this was. Could you test the ingredients and provide me with a new bottle?"

The pharmacist quickly tested the medication and laughed, saying, "Miss, this is just a regular vitamin tablet. I presume you've been taking dietary supplements?"

Winnie narrowed her eyes; indeed, it was a vitamin tablet!

Her thoughts raced as she held the medicine and returned to her car, feeling that something was very suspicious.

Why did Darcy mix vitamin tablets into the bottle of kidney medication and pretend it was kidney medicine?

As a patient who had just undergone a kidney donation surgery, it was impossible for her not to take recovery medication.

Had she not taken any of the medications on the counter? It was common knowledge that vitamin tablets were dietary supplements that even healthy individuals would consume.

In the midst of her jumbled mind, a subtle speculation suddenly emerged...

Winnie's expression changed slightly as she thought about Madam Rodriguez’s kidney transplant surgery, which led to persistent vegetative states.

Darcy incessantly claimed to have donated her kidney to Madam Rodriguez, and there was a stitched wound on her right abdomen that Lawrence R and the others had seen, making them firmly believe it.

But there seemed to be more to the story. Winnie called Olivia and squinted as she said,

"Olivia, I would like to ask for your help in finding the doctor for Darcy's kidney donation surgery and also for her current treating doctor. Could you check if there are any issues with these doctors?”

"What's wrong, Winnie? The kidney donation and Madam Rodriguez's transplant are supposed to be done simultaneously, by the same doctor. Is there something wrong with him?" Olivia questioned.

"No, it's Darcy who has the problem. I suspect she hasn't been taking her post-surgery medication."

"Huh?" Olivia was puzzled. Why wouldn't Darcy take her medication after the kidney donation surgery?

"You investigate first. I just have a feeling something is not right with the kidney donation surgery."

After hanging up the phone, Winnie pondered for a moment before driving to the hospital.
Lawrence R paced the hallway, smoking a few cigarettes in a row.

Luke brought back dinner and handed it to him before returning to the ward.

Darcy lay in bed, noticing his red eyes from the smoke. She expressed concern, "Mr. L, you shouldn't smoke so much. You haven't been sleeping lately, especially last night..."

She paused, "Your functioning neurological disorder isn't fully healed yet. I'm still worried!"

Lawrence R, hearing her words, finally looked at her, his gaze becoming somewhat enigmatic.

Suddenly, he asked, "Darcy, I have a question I want to ask you, and you must answer truthfully."

Darcy was taken aback, an inexplicable alarm flashing through her mind. With a smile, she responded, "What's the question?"
