Chapter 138 Getting the Notebook

Winnie slightly lowered her eyes, waiting for him to appear.

"Why did you collaborate with them? Was it intentional? You embarrassed me, making it difficult for me to raise my head in the Davis family. Winnie, you're so heartless!" Daniel screamed.

"I only want one thing. My uncle is my only family. Who is being heartless by not giving it to me?" Winnie suddenly stood up, as she gave her reply.

Leonard looked at the scene with interest.
"Daniel." He spoke.

Eudora's face turned slightly cold as she held onto the project proposal and asked Winnie, "Winnie, are you really sincere about cooperating?"

"Of course," Winnie turned her head, her face chillingly stern. "Miss Davis, this Triton collaboration is beneficial and harmless to your company. You can take it back and study it carefully. We can discuss further in a couple of days."

"No way!" Daniel quickly tried to snatch the project proposal. "Triton will never collaborate with their company, never!"

"Daniel, you are no longer the CEO of Triton. You cannot make decisions on behalf of Manager Anderson. Manager Anderson, I will work with you." Leonard narrowed his eyes mockingly, picked up the project proposal, and left.

As they left, Daniel's eyes turned bloodshot with a ferocious anger as he despairingly glared at Winnie.

"Why are you pushing me to the brink? Do you know that I have lost my position as Triton's CEO? My father is already disappointed in me. Today, at the Davis Group's shareholders' meeting, Leonard stole the show. If you collaborate with these siblings again, I will be ridiculed within the Davis family..."

Winnie coldly regarded him with an expression of anxiety and anguish.

Once upon a time, when he and Ava had pushed her to the brink, she had felt just as helpless and desperate.

Winnie paid no attention to his outpouring and turned to walk out of the office. Daniel, in anger, reached out and grabbed her.

Just then, at the entrance of the company lobby, a figure walked in. Daniel looked up and his face froze completely.

The person who had arrived was Miss Turner. She saw Daniel entangling himself with Winnie's arm and immediately had a cold expression. "Daniel, what are you doing?"

Miss Turner was well-informed about Daniel's involvement with both the Anderson family sisters. She had been wary from the beginning, although she did like Daniel. Daniel sought a union with her in order to secure the extensive support of the Turner family.

Miss Turner walked with arrogance and displeasure towards them.

From several feet away, Winnie looked at Daniel's face turning cold and said, "I contacted Miss Turner. In my bag, I have the recording of your attempted persuasion from last night. If I were to play it for Miss Turner right now, Daniel... can you guess the outcome?” Winnie continued to threaten.

“Your engagement with Miss Turner will be canceled, and you will lose your inheritance rights in the Davis family. You could hand over the contact book to me, and then I can consider not mentioning the collaboration with Leonard and Eudora!"

Daniel clenched his fist, staring at her face, feeling that the Winnie in front of him was both familiar and incredibly unfamiliar at the same time.

Her eyes were like clear springs, exuding a coldness, so stunning and ruthless that there was no trace of him left.

He was fantasizing about inheriting the Davis family and snatching her back. But It seemed that in the end, he had overestimated himself. She had grown up and long since left his world.

He was the one who pushed her away! He was foolish, unable to judge people accurately. He was shallow, bewitched by Ava's delicate appearance. It was because of his greed that he couldn't wholeheartedly love someone.

Daniel's eyes became bloodshot, seemingly teary. In this moment, all his remorse was once again driven by self-interest.

Winnie pressured him to make a choice, and he reluctantly said, "Fine, you can have the contact book, just don't give her the recording, and let's end the cooperation with Eudora too!"

Winnie pretended to reach into her bag and subtly withdrew her hand.

She looked at Daniel, feeling a bit ridiculous. She didn't have the recording, but she knew in her heart that Daniel couldn't afford to lose anymore.

She glanced at him calmly and said, "Okay."

At this moment, Miss Turner walked over in annoyance. Just as she was about to scold Winnie, Daniel walked past and held Miss Turner's hand, his expression heavy as he pacified her in a soft voice, and she was persuaded to leave.

Winnie stood in the lobby of the company and sent him a text message, "I must get it today."

Half an hour later, a dispirited Daniel replied to the message with a simple, "Come with me to my place."

Winnie, on guard, asked Triton's general manager to accompany them and they got into Daniel's car together.

As the car drove towards his bachelor apartment, Winnie had no intention of speaking.

Daniel glanced at her delicate features several times through the rear-view mirror, his eyes showing a hint of surprise, as if he had sensed her calculations. Yesterday, after seeing Winnie return home, he deliberately opened the contact book and examined it carefully.

He had never looked at it before, but last night, he suddenly discovered an interesting name that appeared repeatedly.
Thinking of this, Daniel coldly curved his lips and turned to look at Winnie, saying mysteriously, "Giving you the contact book might be a good idea. Maybe you'll uncover some secrets."

Winnie frowned, not understanding the meaning behind his words. As they arrived Daniel got out of the car. Winnie still on guard waited at the door.

As the sunset faded, the sky darkened slightly. Before long, Daniel took out the old and yellowed contact book.

Winnie saw that worn-out little book and a mist of warmth filled her eyes, as if she had caught a glimpse of Cameron's figure. That was Cameron's keepsake!

She quickly took it, turned around, and walked away. However, Daniel tightly grasped her wrist. Winnie furrowed her brows and turned back, asking, "Is there something else?"

His eyes emitted a thought-provoking cold light, accompanied by a hint of strangeness as he looked at her. "Winnie, I asked you yesterday if you knew the identity of that masked man beside you. You didn't answer, which means you still don't know, right?"

"Do you know who that man is? There's a good chance, right?" Daniel said to peek Winnie’s interest.

Winnie was taken aback and couldn't help but ask him again today, unconvinced that L was fake. Seeing her wavering gaze, Daniel stepped forward, intending to voice his speculation.

Interrupting him with a lack of trust, Winnie said, "I won't listen to your wild guesses. You don't know him well; how could you know who he is? I'm not curious because he is very real in my life."

"Very real? Hmph." Daniel smirked meaningfully and glanced at the address book, reminding her, "There's a name inside that you should look at when you go back."

If that masked man really is Lawrence R... Hmph. Daniel smirked coldly, that would be interesting indeed.

Winnie furrowed her brows, puzzled by his cold smile. She looked down, gripping the address book tightly, then turned to get into the car.

Just as she was about to leave Daniel's apartment, her phone suddenly rang.

Winnie glanced and saw it was L. She hurriedly answered, a slight smile playing on her lips. "What's up, L?"

"Aren't you at the company?" The man's voice was cold and ominous, accompanied by a hint of anger. "You actually hid from me to meet Daniel. How many times do I have to tell you!"

"... " Winnie guessed he must have called the company and asked about her with Milly. Out of anger, he then checked her whereabouts.

She furrowed her brows, feeling somewhat speechless. "I didn't hide from you to meet him. I took legitimate leave and had a legitimate reason to see him. Listen to me—"
