Chapter 173 Catching Him Kissing Darcy
"Is this Winnie? This is the police station. The amputated area of the prisoner, Elliott, has become infected. He refuses treatment and is causing trouble, resisting imprisonment. He insists on seeing you. If he violates the law again, we will take mandatory confinement measures. Please come to the police station immediately!"
"What?... Alright, I'll come right away!" Winnie bit her pale lips.
Her uncle was sentenced to prison overnight. How could he accept this result? She carefully placed Lawrence R on the pillow, tightly clenched her hands in turmoil. He was sleeping now, as if he hadn't slept in a long time. It would probably take him a few hours to wake up, and by then, she should be back.
The situation there was urgent, and Winnie had no choice but to ultimately get up. Outside the ward, Darcy's icy gaze immediately dismissed the eight bodyguards and hid herself. Winnie swiftly walked out, glanced at her watch, feeling puzzled. It was only six o'clock, did the police station start work this early?
There wasn't time to think too much about it, so she quickly left. At the corner of the corridor, Luke had stayed up all night, making coffee. In the blurry corner of his eye, he suddenly seemed to see Mrs. L coming out of Mr. L's ward. He blinked, feeling like he had made a mistake, finished making coffee, and quickly went over.
Upon opening the ward door, he instead saw Darcy's figure inside. Luke silently retreated. Everyone saw last night that it was Darcy who treated Mr. L. But he clearly saw Mrs. L just now, lingering at the door of the ward? Luke pondered.
In the police station's visiting room, Winnie saw her frail uncle, and her eyes turned red. They were separated by a table and chairs, unable to get closer. Winnie asked bitterly, "Uncle, your leg is in such a terrible state of decay. Why don't you accept the medical treatment arranged by the police station?"
"What's the use of treatment? Lawrence R wants to destroy me! They sentenced me to life imprisonment before the case was even tried. I won't accept it! His mother ended up in a persist vegetative state, that is none of my concern, nor yours. Winnie, the police interrogated you. What happened that night?"
Winnie tightened her grip on her hands and coldly replied, "It was Darcy's trap. That woman who called and instigated you to kidnap mom."
Elliott fell silent, remorsefully holding his head. "It was my impulsiveness. I have been repeatedly used by others, which also led to you being investigated. But I've done my best to clear you. The kidnapping case has nothing to do with you. You were trying to save someone."
Winnie smiled bitterly. Yes, everyone, Alan, Darcy, all came together. One after another, they used her uncle, leading to the tangled situation they couldn't unravel today.
"Don't worry about me, Uncle. I believe the police will investigate it thoroughly."
"You can't be in any trouble," Elliott was afraid. "I'm counting on you to appeal for me."
"Elliott, I can argue that I will only be sentenced to a maximum of ten years for this kidnapping. There's no difference between a lifetime imprisonment and the death penalty. I don't want to spend the rest of my life tormented in a prison cell.
Winnie... please go and plead with Lawrence R for forgiveness! Implore him on my behalf, and most importantly, Lena doesn't even know where Lawrence R has kept her. I'm worried about her... you must help me rescue her!"
Winnie was alarmed by the sudden turn of events, and it had been four days since the incident occurred. She had only just escaped from the mountain village yesterday and hadn't had a chance to inquire about Lena's whereabouts. Besides, communicating with Lawrence R was now a problem.
Winnie swallowed these difficult challenges in silence and softly said, "Uncle, please give me some time. You and Lena are the most important people to me, and I will never give up on you. I will find a way to appeal your case, but it can't be done immediately because of Lawrence R..."
"I understand. He's a devil! Find out about your cousin as soon as possible. She's my only daughter."
Elliott suddenly looked ten years older, slouched his shoulders in despair. Winnie tried to persuade him, "Uncle, please seek treatment so that you can reunite with Lena. Don't cause more trouble or violate the regulations. That will only worsen your sentence."
Elliott shook his head, "I won't seek treatment. I just wanted to give up and see you once. But I won't do that anymore."
Winnie furrowed her brow. But the police officer who called her in the morning clearly said that her uncle had caused trouble and resisted being imprisoned. That's why she hurried over. Was there a miscommunication? Winnie wondered but didn't mention it to her uncle. She spoke for a while longer, and the police doctor would start treating him.
Winnie reminded her uncle once again to take care of himself while in prison and not to violate any regulations. She checked the time; it was nine o'clock. She was deeply worried about Lawrence R's condition. Dry Needling was still attached to his head, and it wasn't advisable to keep it for too long. She calculated that he would soon wake up.
She quickly left the police station. On her way back in the car, the weather was not good, with sunlight hiding behind dark clouds, unable to penetrate through. There weren't many people on the street. Suddenly, she saw a breakfast shop that had just opened, and freshly baked ginger sugar cookies were displayed in the glass case.
"I miss the ginger sugar cookies you used to bake. When I was little..." The weak and low voice of a man echoed in her mind. Winnie's heart felt sour, and her eyes glistened with a flicker of light. She asked the taxi to stop and immediately rushed over, crossing the street. She bought a bag of cookies and hurried back to the car. It was so cold in winter, and the snow by the roadside hadn't completely melted. She worried about the ginger sugar cookies he loved, so she tightly held them close to her chest.
Her pregnant belly felt warm, and the baby inside woke up. "These are for Daddy. He loves them," Winnie whispered with a soft smile. Anxious eyes blinked, hoping that he would notice the ginger sugar cookies and feel a trace of warmth from his mother, hoping he wouldn't hate and reject her like last night.
Taking a deep breath, she walked through the hospital entrance and returned to the end of the third floor, where the Intensive Care Unit was located. When Winnie was about to reach the door, her phone rang.
Absent-mindedly, she took it out and realized Olivia had called her numerous times, which she hadn't answered. She immediately called back, "Olivia?"
Olivia sounded anxious on the other end, "Winnie, where did you go after you ran upstairs last night? I've been looking for you all night!"
"I was in Lawrence R's ward, saving him. I'm fine, Olivia,"
"You were treating him? Can't Darcy, do it?" Olivia sounded puzzled, then quickly added, "Is it done now? Your baby is in danger, hurry back and take your medication!"
Winnie, with ginger-flavored cookies in her hand, reached out to touch the door of the ward. Thinking about the man still lying sick inside, her heart softened, and she curved her lips gently. "I'll come back in a while. He's more important—"
Creak, the door slowly pushed open. Inside was a narrow door, and as Winnie pushed it open, her line of sight aligned perfectly with the small window, allowing her to see the scene inside the ward immediately.
Suddenly, her hand froze on the door, her gaze quickly turned pale, unable to believe what she was seeing.
It seemed like the sun had finally pierced through the clouds, shining into the ward. A gentle breeze brushed through the white curtains. Lawrence R was lying on the edge of the bed, with his pale and handsome face tilted back, and Darcy, sitting in a wheelchair, was held tightly against his chest, their heads entwined in a kiss...
