Chapter 144 Her uncle forced her to take revenge

The man turned his face away from the window and impatiently pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I've been too good to her!" L's voice trembled.

The voice was filled with anger and chilliness, "Alan has returned to the country, Darcy has committed suicide. I can't antagonize the Ordelia family anymore. I thought she was smart, but I never expected her to be so intolerant of Darcy."

Jeremy could sense the disappointment in his voice and frowned, saying, "With Winnie's emotional intelligence, she shouldn't argue with you over Darcy's matter. Could it be because of something else?"

L paused, shook his head. The content of their argument was solely about Darcy.

However, Winnie had been acting strangely today. She had a nightmare and even told him not to touch her. Her emotions were running high, and her gaze was inexplicable.

She shouldn't look at him like that. When they first met, she was afraid of him. As they became more familiar, she became coquettish yet had some temper, but she never behaved like a stranger.

"At the end of the argument, she asked me if I knew her Grandfather." L's brows furrowed deeply.

"Cameron Granger, whom you had a dispute with back then..." Jeremy's expression slightly changed.

L maintained a normal expression, "Just a normal business conflict. The Granger family was victimized, and I witnessed that accident back then. I never expected her uncle to still be alive."

Jeremy had also heard that L met Winnie's uncle today and he questioned, "Did her uncle say something to her? Is she asking you about the Granger family's past?"

L shook his head, "They don't know who I am now. Besides, if anyone seeks revenge, they should go after the Anderson family."

"Your grudge with Triton, you'll have to explain it to her after she gives birth and settles down, right?" Jeremy gestured towards L's mask.

L nodded, continued to drink his alcohol with a cold face.

After analyzing the situation, this woman just couldn't let go of the matter with Darcy going back to Lymington.

On the death anniversary of Winnie’s mother, heavy snow covered the entire city, the coldness was bone-chilling, with no warmth left in the air.

Winnie fell seriously ill, running a high fever for two days.

Being pregnant, she couldn't take oral medication, so she resorted to Dry Needling on her own.

But it didn't help. Olivia watched as her face turned red, her breaths became ragged, and she rushed out in distress.

Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes, "Winnie! You can't go on like this!"

What happened to Winnie? It seemed like her soul had been drained these past two days, and she refused to say anything.

It was evident that she was in great pain.

Olivia followed behind in her car, and the car in front wobbled its way up to the cemetery behind the Anderson family's estate.
Olivia parked at the foot of the mountain, thinking that it might be her mother's death anniversary, and Winnie was feeling heartbroken.

Winnie walked dazedly to the large tree in the cemetery.

Her uncle had already arrived, using a shovel to clear the snow from Cameron and Irene's graves.

He was sitting in a wheelchair, which made it difficult for him.

Winnie approached carefully and took the shovel from him, "Uncle, let me clear the snow."

"You've come," Elliott said, but declined to say anything more.

Stopping, he looked at her abdomen under her coat and then at the tombstone. His eyes filled with stubborn coldness.

"You can't sweep, Winnie, you're not even worthy of a memorial. Carrying Lawrence R's child, I think Cameron and Irene haven't found peace yet."

Winnie's body stiffened, and the snow in the world seemed pale in comparison to the desolation in her heart. Her uncle poured a basin of ice water on her, leaving her feeling utterly humiliated.

Her uncle gave her a guilty verdict.

Looking at her suddenly pale face, Elliott crawled down from his wheelchair and wiped the tombstone.

"To lay them to rest, we must seek revenge, and claim back everything that belongs to the Granger family!"

Elliott took hold of her hand.

"I've thought about it carefully. You said Lawrence R let you into the company and trusted you? Then, for now, don't separate from him. Stay by his side as my spy. I've prepared for a long time. The bigger the conglomerate, the easier it is to bring down, as long as you're willing to help me!"

Winnie's face was rigid.

She thought her uncle meant for her and Lawrence R to break up immediately that day, and then seek revenge together.

But now, her uncle saw her as a weapon, conveniently hidden by Lawrence R's side, like a lethal sword.

It felt like there was a hole stabbed in her heart, causing panic and pain.

Subconsciously, she held her head in her hands. "Uncle, I…"

"You can't refuse. Look at them on the tombstone and look at me now. Can't our suffering compare to your personal feelings?"

Elliott's eyes concealed scheming, and his face was filled with anguish.

Winnie could no longer say anything.

"I'll give you time to consider. When you're ready, arrange a meeting with Lawrence R." Elliott's eyes were cunning and profound as he tightly held her cold hand before leaving.

Winnie felt like a forsaken spirit stranded in an icy world. Standing in front of the tombstone, Cameron and Irene's smiling faces stabbed her heart with agony.

She had always wanted to avenge Cameron and Irene. If it were the Anderson family, she wouldn't hesitate.

But why was it him? Why him?

"Winnie, the snow is heavy. Have you gone mad?" Olivia walked over with an umbrella, observing her wet face.
"What did your uncle say to make you cry like this? What's wrong with you? Can't you tell me?"

Winnie's heartache came in wave after wave, yet she couldn't utter a word.

Seeing her unsteady stance, Olivia cursed softly and steadied her.

"Damn it, your body temperature hasn't come down! Come with me to the hospital!"

At the hospital, Winnie shook her head.

"I'll just go back and buy herbal medicine; I can't take anything else."

"Tell me the name of the medicine, I'll go buy it for you. You wait here." Olivia helped her to a chair.

Winnie didn't sit down.

With a heavy head and dizzy feet, her nose completely blocked, face burning red, she leaned against the window sill and walked into the hospital's garden, hoping to catch a breath—

But as she looked up, she saw a familiar figure with flowers.

The man walked towards Winnie with Darcy in a sideways embrace, across the corridor from the garden. Their eyes met, and the eyes beneath L's mask twitched slightly.

Winnie stood there, her face burning red, gradually turning pale, as if her gaze had been stabbed, and causing a painful sensation.

"Mr. L... what's wrong?" Darcy weakly raised her head from his embrace and saw Winnie.

Her face paled, and she shrunk back. "Is that Mrs. L?"

The woman's hand hanging on his neck instinctively tightened.

L, however, looked at Winnie's sickly face, abnormally flushed with reddened lips and disheveled hair, her eyes also teary.

What happened to this woman? He immediately wanted to put Darcy in a wheelchair.

As he bent down, Darcy suddenly fell to the ground, and L had to hold her tightly as she buried herself in his arms.

"I'm sorry, Mr. L. There are too many men here, and I'm afraid..." Darcy looked at the men passing by in the corridor, her gaze filled with resistance.

L furrowed his brows and could only hold her, his heavy gaze fixed on Winnie.

Just as he was about to walk past her, Winnie suddenly withdrew her cold gaze and a sarcastic smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.

All the conflicts and pain in her eyes turned into a chilling coldness at that moment. She had fallen in love with this man, but how did he ultimately see her?

In her bewildered pain, he was devotedly accompanying Darcy. Perhaps he regarded her as a plundered trophy, concealing and playing with her.

Her uncle was right; she had taken this foolish personal affair too seriously!
