Chapter 290 Jeffery intercepted
Darcy composed herself and grabbed his sleeve, pretending to be puzzled as she asked, "Mr. L, did you help Miss Anderson visit her uncle Elliott in prison?"
Lawrence R's body slightly froze.
The memory of that night when Winnie "coerced him into a deal" made his handsome face darken.
Seeing that he did not answer, Darcy felt extremely gloomy.
She couldn't help but feel wronged as she said, "Mr. L, why did you help her with such an unfair matter? I thought you were completely disappointed in her and had left her behind. I didn't expect you to do this behind my back..."
"It's not like that, Darcy," Lawrence R had no choice but to explain with annoyance, "That day at the hotel, she deliberately took some photos that could be misinterpreted and threatened me, saying she would go to the media. I was worried that it would once again create a negative public opinion towards you, which is why I fell into her trap."
This woman is so cunning, otherwise, how could she forcefully take back Triton under his watchful eyes, all while scheming so well.
He had underestimated her.
Lawrence R was fed up, feeling a tingling in his teeth. He reluctantly came to this hotel and didn't want to see that face, yet he was infuriated that she had the audacity to appoint Rock as the chief consultant.
Were they showing off their love in a high-profile manner? They were not even divorced yet!
He was so angry that he couldn't focus on anything all morning.
And after hearing his explanation, Darcy was very angry.
How many tricks did that vile woman Winnie play behind the scenes? She thought that this hotel matter was Winnie's secret retaliation against herself.
Little did she know that Winnie would dare to threaten Mr. L and obtain the power over the prison.
She used Mr. L's influence to suppress the prison, and Winnie turned around and slapped her in the face?
Darcy gritted her teeth fiercely, wishing she could tear that wicked woman apart.
"Darcy."
Lawrence R focused his gaze, a hint of sharpness flashing, and he couldn't help but ask, "How did you know that I gave her the authority to visit? Did you know about Elliott's case?"
Winnie mentioned several times that Elliott's case was related to Darcy.
At that time, Lawrence R had dismissed it, but now, his gaze darkened slightly.
Upon hearing his question, Darcy was suddenly startled and realized that she had been driven by jealousy all morning and was too impatient to ask him.
Darcy's expression flickered as she struggled to regain composure.
She sighed and said, "I wasn't paying attention to the case. If it weren't for my subordinate seeking my help, I wouldn't have known that Elliott killed someone in prison. Well, unfortunately, the victim happened to be a relative of my subordinate. The family is devastated, and my subordinate is furious. He's afraid that Elliott might be released on bail, so he pleaded with me several times to use my connections within the Ordelia family and instruct the prison to handle the case justly. Seeing how pitiable they were, I decided to help."
Darcy preemptively explained why the Ordelia family exerted pressure, knowing Lawrence R would find out if he investigated. It would be illegal to deny Elliott visitation anyway.
However, as the sound of high heels approached from the side...
A woman's mocking laughter resonated. "Miss Ordelia is indeed righteous! You are willing to use the Ordelia family's influence just because a mere subordinate's relative was killed in prison. You forbade my uncle from speaking up by pressuring the prison and blocking visitation. What kind of relationship do you have with your subordinate that makes you risk breaking the law for him?"
Lawrence R paused, turned around, and fixed his dark gaze on the woman who was gracefully walking towards them.
Darcy was taken aback by Winnie's sudden appearance. Her questioning caused Darcy's face to visibly change.
Similarly, Lawrence R didn't miss Winnie's words. His dark eyes narrowed as he subconsciously turned his head to scrutinize Darcy. Darcy's heart sank at this piercing gaze.
Quickly regaining her composure, she feigned a helpless expression and hid slightly behind Lawrence R, saying, "Miss Anderson, I don't know what you're talking about. I'm simply assisting my subordinate and reminding the prison to act impartially. I understand your desire to protect your uncle, but he cruelly took someone's life. Even if you want to save him, you shouldn't slander the Ordelia family in every possible way."
"Slander you?" Winnie chuckled and glanced around Darcy intentionally.
She asked, seemingly intrigued, "Miss Ordelia, what happened to your constant companion, Jeffrey? Why isn't he here today? After all, isn't the deceased, Jacob, his uncle? I can understand Jeffrey's anger and concern for the case. However, how come he suddenly went abroad this morning? Could it be that my visit to the prison last night made some guilty individuals uneasy, prompting them to flee the country?"
Darcy was caught off guard and stiffened. Her elegant face grew tense. Lawrence R, sharp as ever, noticed the logical inconsistency in Winnie's words as he focused on Darcy.
Clutching her hands tightly, Darcy nervously replied, "Did Jeffrey go abroad? I honestly have no idea. He might have had to travel due to the Ordelia Group's overseas medical business. Miss Anderson, you may be overthinking things, don't you think?"
Winnie's face remained stoic as she glanced at Lawrence R, her eyes seemingly indifferent.
"Miss Ordelia, please don't take offense. I have great doubts about my uncle's case. He is disabled, so how could he have killed a strong truck driver?"
Lawrence R furrowed his brows, never having heard of Elliott's case. It didn't seem to fit the mold. He looked deeply at Winnie.
Winnie's voice was neither high nor low.
"That's why I filed for a retrial. Jeffrey, as the victim's family, suddenly leaving the country at this time is highly suspicious. He should be actively cooperating with the police investigation, shouldn't he, Miss Ordelia?"
"But I heard the police had already concluded their investigation," Darcy coldly sneered.
"Only because your Ordelia family exerted pressure. The deceased, Jacob, also had some connection with Miss Ordelia, which is quite intriguing. To protect Miss Ordelia's innocence, Jeffrey must stay in the country. So I intercepted him at the airport on behalf of Miss Ordelia!"
Darcy's expression completely changed. Jeffrey, that useless fool, didn't manage to leave! She stared at Winnie's composed face, unable to remain calm herself.
Winnie threw out this remark, surprising Darcy. Did she think she was fast enough?
Darcy tried to confuse the situation. "Mr. L, Jeffrey has important matters to attend to. Miss Anderson forcibly detained him, which is unreasonable and goes too far."
"Mr. Rodriguez, what is your opinion as an outsider?" Winnie suddenly looked up and gazed at the silent man.
Darcy had thought the man would unconditionally support her.
However, Lawrence R's expression grew colder, and he glanced at Winnie. His approach had always been about the facts, not the people.
Three years ago, when Elliott kidnapped his mother, he had sentenced Elliott to life imprisonment. He deserved it, but if Elliott hadn't committed murder, he shouldn't have died unjustly.
"Darcy, Jeffrey must stay in the country. His decision to leave at this time raises the possibility of fleeing due to guilt. If the Ordelia family is innocent, they have nothing to fear; the police will solve the case themselves!"
"But..."
Lawrence R cut Darcy off, waving his hand to stop any further excuses. This practically confirmed Winnie's retrial.
Lawrence R's influence swept through Lymington; if he didn't intervene, Winnie would successfully reopen the case. This was troublesome.
With his statement, Jeffrey and Darcy wouldn't be able to leave anymore!
Darcy's heart sank to the bottom, and she was on the verge of losing control. She glared at Winnie, almost wishing to tear her apart. She couldn't show her anger, no matter how furious she was.
With a smile, I pretended to be calm and said, "There is no need for Miss Anderson to blame the Ordelia family for things we didn't do. Mr. L, I'm hungry, let's go eat!"
Just then, Luke walked over, looking a little troubled. "Mr. Rodriguez, the best window booth has been reserved."
At the same time, Rock's slender figure approached and glanced at Lawrence R, effortlessly taking hold of Winnie's wrist.
"Come on, booth number one is all set, we're just waiting for you."
Winnie nodded with a faint smile, and turned around.
Booth number one was the best booth. Luke's heart silently cried out.
Suddenly, a chill froze everyone in place, especially Winnie and Rock, with their hands intertwined. Lawrence R stared at them with a sinister gaze, pursing his lips with anger.
"Luke, go give the owner one billion dollars! I want that booth number one."
Winnie frowned and looked over.
