Chapter 195 There is something wrong with the blood.
With that, she wiped away a tear and quickly left. Taylor safely escorted her to a shady area, took off her nurse uniform, and Winnie silently returned to the main villa. She sneaked into the servant's room in the backyard, where there were no surveillance cameras.
Winnie took out the tube of blood and placed it under the lamp. She used a silver needle to prick it to test for poison. The needle did not change color. She frowned, noticing that the blood was unusually dark and thick.
Madam Rodriguez’s physical examination showed signs of amnesia, pancreatitis, and various ailments, but she had a light diet and no high blood lipids.
The blood shouldn't be this thick, and it was unusual for an elderly woman's blood to be so dark. Winnie furrowed her brow and was almost certain that Madam Rodriguez's kidney failure was caused by Darcy.
Starting with the blood was the quickest way to induce rapid kidney failure in a person. That was why she had sent Darcy away to collect blood samples today.
The blood was definitely problematic, but the silver needle couldn't reveal it. Darcy was skilled and would be able to avoid the doctors that Lawrence R arranged for Madam Rodriguez's check-up.
While Winnie was knowledgeable in Dry Needling, she wasn't skilled in medical testing. She needed to send the blood to a high-end medical testing center for further investigation. She frowned, realizing that she couldn't take action herself.
Olivia? No, Benjamin and Jeremy were both clever. If Lawrence R found out that she had taken Madam Rodriguez's blood, they would surely misunderstand her again! So, who could she turn to for help?
In the office...
Lawrence R finished his meeting. Luke entered and said, "Mr. L..." Lawrence R glanced at him and gestured for the secretary to leave. His gaze was deep. "Did you find out? What happened?"
Luke nodded. "I checked. On the night of the bidding, Mrs. L booked a flight to Perugia City. Around two in the morning, she stopped Mr. Lancelot from having a stroke, and then Mr. Lancelot had surgery..."
Lawrence R rubbed his temples. He had really misunderstood her. But...
"I remember she didn't come to the police station until the next morning. Her clothes seemed to be soaked. Where did she go in between?"
"I couldn't find that. Maybe Mrs. L stayed at the hospital with Mr. Lancelot," Luke speculated.
Lawrence R furrowed his brow, feeling a mix of complicated emotions, and asked again, "What about the surveillance footage from the hospital that night?"
Luke frowned. "The hospital's surveillance was down that night. None of the buildings had it. It was repaired the next afternoon. It's strange, isn't it? It seems too coincidental... I have a feeling someone tampered with it."
But Who? Was the Question which surrounded them.
That night, Alan and the old Mr. Rodriguez blocked the corridor, with so many reporters.
Anyone could be the culprit. Lawrence R pondered internally, his gaze darkening.
Suddenly, at that moment, the office door was knocked on, and Jeffrey rushed in. "Mr. L, I'm sorry for interrupting, but Miss Ordelia has been admitted to the hospital. Her condition is critical. You should go see her!"
"What?" Lawrence R stood up. "Wasn't she recuperating well at the villa?"
"Well, it's related to Winnie..." was the response that came. Lawrence R froze, his expression changing.
At the hospital.
Lawrence R strode into the emergency room. Darcy lay on the bed, pale and unconscious.
"Darcy?" the man asked the maid standing by the bed. "What's wrong with her?"
The maid, Barbara, had been transferred from Trento City by Darcy. She walked over, teary-eyed and angry.
"Mr. L, it's all because of that Miss Anderson! When she returned today, she saw Miss Ordelia receiving an IV drip and started insulting her. She even mocked her in your name. Seeing Miss Ordelia in a wheelchair, she even wanted to slap her!"
Lawrence R's face turned cold. Was she describing Winnie? Although he was now unfamiliar with that woman, Winnie's demeanor and cultivation didn't seem like those of someone who would do something like this...
Seeing his doubt, the maid immediately took out Darcy's phone and opened it, angrily saying,
"You have no idea what Winnie sent Miss Ordelia using your phone last night. Take a look!
Miss Anderson's thoughts are truly malicious. Miss Ordelia cried all night when she saw this photo and couldn't bear to be angry with you. She already had one kidney missing, and she was in pain all over last night!"
Lawrence R saw the photo and his expression darkened even further. Lawrence R’s face froze as he stared at the suggestive photo of him and Winnie on the bed.
A hint of unease flashed in his eyes as he checked his Facebook account, only to find that he himself had posted it. Winnie... His eyes darkened with resentment. How dare this shameless woman take a picture of them in bed!
The hospital room fell into a deathly silence. Sensing the timing was right, Darcy slowly opened her eyes, her lips trembling in pain. Tears fell weakly as she whispered, "L..."
"I'm here!" Lawrence R held her outstretched hand, furrowing his brow as he asked, "How are you doing? Are you okay?"
"I'm in a little pain..." she said, downplaying her agony with her words, but the anguish was evident on her face and in her heart.
A tinge of guilt flickered in Lawrence R's eyes, but he remained silent. Darcy then turned her head and reprimanded the maid, "I told you not to tell Mr. L about the photos..."
"But you've been wronged so much, why didn't you speak up? Winnie provoked you with those photos, and you fell ill. You only have one kidney, and yet she keeps bullying you. How can you go on like this?"
Lawrence R listened, guilt deepening in his eyes, and when Darcy looked at him, he turned slightly hoarse. "Darcy, I haven't divorced her yet."
Darcy couldn't hold back her anger and clenched her teeth. To her, Lawrence R's words implied that he still had lingering feelings for Winnie. But she suppressed her emotions because her goal today was to deal with Winnie!
She cried in pain, "L, I don't blame you. I'm just too heartbroken. It's fine if you haven't divorced her, but I thought you had feelings for me. You promised to get engaged with me. Can't you stop getting entangled with her?"
Her pleading pose rendered Lawrence R speechless. Darcy sobbed, "Even if you hid it from me, Winnie knew that I just donated my kidney and couldn't handle any stimuli. Yet, she deliberately sent me your photos. I can't take it anymore. Sometimes, I think it's really unfair. I waited for you for so many years, and when she appeared out of nowhere, I stepped back and tolerated her. Now that I finally have you, she humiliates me at every turn..."
She cried, becoming more agitated, gasping for breath with cold sweat on her forehead. "L, L..."
"Darcy! Calm down." Lawrence R was afraid she might have an accident and immediately called for the doctor. He comforted her, "I know you're suffering. If you have any requests, please tell me, okay?"
"I don't ask for much. I just want her to come and apologize to me." Darcy spoke with grievance.
Lawrence R clenched his fists, unable to believe Winnie was such a scheming woman. Last night was merely a transaction, and yet she was humiliated but turned around and boasted to Darcy? He turned to his assistant and said, "Luke, bring her here to explain everything!"
