Chapter 774 Scheming
She had a rare pair of expressive almond eyes, looking at him intently and with a watery gleam. Lawrence felt a stir in his heart, pleased by her favorable expression, and his thin lips curved into a smile.
Their appearance together infuriated Angelina.
She almost wanted to smash the champagne tower, but she held back, her face contorted with displeasure, and coquettishly said to Lawrence, "Uncle is fine! I just happen to want an older man, someone mature and caring. Isn't that how it always goes in TV shows?"
Lawrence coldly pursed his lips, "Too bad I'm not."
"No worries, there's plenty of time. Are you really afraid that a young girl like me can't melt your heart?"
Angelina said it outright. Since things had come to this point, she didn't bother hiding her intentions.
She then became even more enthusiastic and bold, drawing envious glances from many young wealthy men towards Lawrence.
"Lawrence, here's a toast from me." Angelina approached Lawrence with a glass of champagne, "Thank you for coming to my welcome party today. It's the happiest day of my life."
Everyone was watching them; they had undoubtedly become the center of attention.
After all, with Samuel present, Lawrence couldn't afford to embarrass them too much.
He had no choice but to take the champagne, lightly clink glasses with Angelina, and take a sip.
When he turned his head, he noticed that Winnie had left at some point.
Her glass of champagne remained untouched.
Lawrence frowned, wanting to chase after her, but Angelina and her friends blocked his way. By the time he managed to squeeze through, Winnie was nowhere to be seen.
Was she angry?
Winnie returned to the main hall of the party, looking around but not finding Rock.
Melanie walked over, "Winnie, are you looking for Rock? He just went to admire some antiques with Mr. Harper and a few congressmen."
Melanie's eyes were subtle, "From what I've observed, he seems quite extraordinary. You see, there are other business moguls here today, but none of them got a chance to get close to Mr. Harper. Only he managed to mingle with the core political figures."
Winnie furrowed her brows slightly, a bit distracted.
"Winnie, what are you thinking about?" Melanie asked, seeing her unresponsive, then smiled mischievously, "You wouldn't be jealous of Lawrence and Angelina, would you? They were so intimate by the pool just now."
"Jealous? Me?"
Winnie glared at her, vehemently denying it. However, she was indeed angry about Angelina and Lawrence's entanglement earlier, but it had nothing to do with jealousy. She was just worried that her sons might have to face another stepmother.
"I'm just afraid Angelina will become a stepmother to my sons."
Melanie thought for a moment, then teased with a wink, "Ishara can't be a stepmother, Angelina can't either, so who do you want to be their stepmother?"
Winnie explained, "Angelina's young but very cunning. You can tell she's not a good person after just a brief interaction."
"She just had a servant come to me, saying you were waiting for me. When I went, I almost got pushed into the water by the servant and embarrassed myself."
Melanie was furious upon hearing this, "You're a guest, and they dare to be so arrogant. Mr. Jenkins is Angelina's cousin. I'll go tell him about this."
"Don't go." Winnie calmly pulled her back, "I'm just Bentley's friend. Angelina and Bentley are relatives. Do you think the Jenkins family wants to have a conflict with the Harper family?"
Melanie was stunned.
"Anyway, a woman like Angelina can't be a stepmother to Sidney and Oscar." Melanie blinked again, "Then Winnie, you better keep a close eye on Lawrence, don't let Angelina steal him away."
Winnie glared at her ambiguous expression.
Why should she keep an eye on that troublemaker Lawrence?
The champagne tower by the pool was emptied by the guests.
Lawrence finally managed to shake off Angelina and her friends and quickly slipped away.
But after just a few steps, he felt an inexplicable heat spreading through his body, his breath tightening around his throat.
He had been drugged by Darcy before, and this feeling was eerily familiar.
He quickly realized that the champagne he drank had been spiked.
Damn it! It must have been Angelina. Who knew she could be so shameless at such a young age?
Lawrence squinted his eyes and strode towards the exit of the villa hotel, trying to leave the place.
But before he could get close to the door, he saw two of Angelina's bodyguards standing there.
If he went out now, he would definitely be blocked and found by Angelina.
Just as his body grew hotter and sweat began to bead on his temples, a voice suddenly came from beside him, "Lawrence?"
Lawrence, suppressing his pain, turned to see Bentley standing under the eaves with a glass of wine.
Seeing his unusual appearance, Bentley put down his glass and walked over, a bit surprised, "Why is your face so red?"
"I drank something spiked," Lawrence said coldly.
Bentley was stunned for a moment, his narrow eyes half-closed, "Could it be Angelina?"
"Who else?"
Lawrence's breathing grew heavier, his long fingers tugging at the Windsor knot on his collar, feeling extremely uncomfortable, "I bet Angelina is looking for me everywhere right now. I want to leave, but there are guards at the front."
Bentley glanced at the door. The guests hadn't left yet, and there were four or five bodyguards standing there.
It was clear that Angelina intended to wait for Lawrence at the door.
He frowned, then said after a moment, "Forget it, come with me! The hotel has a room prepared for me. I'm a relative of the Harper family, so you can hide in my bathroom for now."
Lawrence had no choice but to follow him, "Thanks."
He felt like his whole body was being gnawed by countless ants, his throat burning like fire. As soon as he rushed into the bathroom, he immediately splashed his face with cold water, but the heat and sweat continued to intensify.
Bentley looked around outside, then quickly dialed a number to Melanie.
Downstairs in the banquet hall.
Melanie received Bentley's call and grabbed Winnie, "Winnie, Mr. Jenkins said he's upstairs and wants me to bring you up. Maybe he has some news about Rock?"
Winnie was already tired of staying here, and Rock was off with some high officials.
Unable to monitor him, she nodded, "Alright."
Just as she was about to take the elevator with Melanie, Winnie caught a glimpse of Angelina coming in from outside, seemingly looking for someone.
Her eyes flashed. Could Angelina be looking for Lawrence?
"Winnie, the elevator is closing," Melanie urged.
Winnie quickly stepped inside.
Upstairs, the villa hotel was large, with over twenty rooms on each floor.
Winnie and Melanie walked to the end of the corridor, where they saw Bentley opening a door. As soon as they entered, Bentley cautiously closed the door behind them!
"What's going on?" Winnie looked at Bentley, "Why so secretive? Did you find out something about Rock?"
