Chapter 332 Sending Winnie to Jail

Olivia's face turned even paler, filled with worry as she spoke, "Winnie, if Jeffery can't be found, not only will we fail to save your uncle, but you might end up being implicated too. The case you're filing against the Ordelia Group is a fight to the death. If they win, they will counterattack with defamation charges, swiftly sending you to jail. It's despicable. You saved Jeffery, yet he played you so ruthlessly."

"Winnie, have you received any ransom messages from Jeffery?" Rock suddenly asked.

Winnie shook her head. "Not yet. He's playing mind games with me, trying to control my every move. Moreover, even if he extorted billions of dollars from me and I paid, he wouldn't show up to testify. Instead, he'd likely threaten the Ordelia family on the day of the trial and then disappear with the money."

"What a bastard," Rock murmured.

As Winnie pondered all night, she reflected, 'When dealing with a cunning person, one has to take hold of their lifeline. Jeffery's lifeline: His parents have already been sent abroad, and I won't be able to find him within two days, no matter how far I search. However, just like the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's fire. I wonder what other weaknesses does he have?'

Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind as she mumbled in a daze. Remembering a crucial point that she had overlooked, Winnie got up and called out to Olivia, "Olivia, can you help me? The day Jeffery was resuscitated, he was dreaming and calling out 'daughter'. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time as I thought that there was no way he could have a daughter at such a young age without being married.

"But now I think it's highly possible that he has a secret daughter with someone. If this secret daughter is in Lymington, living in anonymity, Jeffery definitely wouldn't disturb her in a time of crisis and would stay far away. But if I can find this secret daughter, then I can force him to appear!" Winnie finally felt that there was a glimmer of light in the darkness.

Olivia couldn't help but replied with concern, "The problem is, the trial is tomorrow. Are you sure it is worth verifying information that is most likely just a delusion, Winnie? Are you focusing on the right thing?"

Winnie closed her eyes tightly and said, "Let's take a gamble! Otherwise, I'll just have to stay at home and go to court empty-handed. Jeffery was extremely nervous at that moment when he blurted out about his daughter, and I'd rather believe that there is something to it."

Upon hearing that Winnie might be going to court without evidence, Olivia's eyes turned red. She let out a sigh and immediately opened her computer to start hacking. However, Jeffrey had left no trace. "Winnie, I'm sorry but I could only find records of his three ex-girlfriends and none of them were pregnant. As for one-night stands and such, we need a more skilled detective to look into it."

"Do you know anyone in Lymington who is a detective?" Winnie asked.

Olivia hesitated for a moment and replied with a trembling voice, "Detectives rely on connections, and the largest network of connections in Lymington is controlled by Jeremy. His family has ties to the criminal underworld. How about you try reaching out to him?"

Without hesitation, Winnie called Luke, inquiring about Jeremy's contact information. She quickly arranged a meeting with Jeremy, and to her surprise, he agreed to see her. However, he didn't give her a definite answer. Winnie knew he was in a difficult position because of Lawrence's involvement, considering Lawrence was on Darcy's side.

When Winnie returned home, Mr. Wilson was organizing the evidence for tomorrow's court hearing, and he asked her one last time for any proof. She felt herself sweating profusely as she was still not able to successfully gather any evidence for the court hearing.

At night, in the Pearl Club, Lawrence entered a private room where Jeremy was casually seated alone. "What's the matter? You called me here for something?" Lawrence asked with a hint of playfulness in his eyes.

"Mr. L, tomorrow the Ordelia family will attend Winnie's appeal for Elliott's case. Both you and Darcy will be there, won't you?"

"Get to the point," Lawrence retorted, leaning against the doorframe without taking a seat.

Jeremy clicked his tongue and looked at Lawrence's stern profile. "Winnie came to see me today, asking me to provide her with the best detective. She wants to find Jeffrey's illegitimate daughter. However, Jeffrey passed away a few days ago, didn't he? The only person related to Elliott in this case is Jeffrey. I have no idea what she intends to do, probably trying to overturn the case by using Jeffrey's illegitimate daughter. She seemed anxious and worn out."

"Why are you telling me this?" Lawrence's emotions were unreadable.

Unfazed, Jeremy smiled cynically and said, "I didn't agree to help her. Aren't you protecting Darcy? How could I dare to assist Winnie without your consent?"

Lawrence stayed silent for a moment, his furrowed eyebrows obscured by the smoke from his cigarette, making it challenging for others to discern his thoughts. However, Jeremy could sense his displeasure. The more Jeremy laughed, the more pronounced the curve of Lawrence's lips became. Jeremy then playfully kicked the man's sturdy leg, saying, "Tsk, maybe I'm too heartless. Shouldn't I help her? She looks so teary-eyed, as if she is running out of options."

"Get lost!" Lawrence tossed his cigarette butt and stood up. "Send someone to her. The court hearing will start at ten tomorrow."

Jeremy smirked. "Helping other women while you have your fiancée back at home? Classy move, huh?"

"Back off. Speaking of which, if Elliott is innocent in this case, the death penalty should not be imposed on her. It's her ability to find evidence that matters."

Three years ago, driven by anger at Elliott for the harm inflicted upon his mother, he condemned Elliott to a life sentence in prison. In truth, after Elliot had spent three years behind bars, the resentment had subsided. Miraculously, even though his mother lingered in a vegetative state for three years, she remained alive. Despite his grievances, Lawrence still clung to the principles of justice.

Jeremy knew Mr. L's sense of justice very well. His intention in bringing up matters regarding Elliot's trial was simply to test whether Mr. L still had any sympathy or ulterior motives for Winnie. Jeremy narrowed his eyes and leisurely dialed a phone number.

In the middle of the night, Winnie lay awake, unable to fall asleep, when she received a call.

Jeremy's relaxed voice came through. "Sister-in-law… no, Winnie, please come to Donghe Road. I believe I have found Jeffrey's illegitimate daughter's location."

"What?" Winnie's head was struck by this news. "But Jeremy, didn't you reject helping me?"

"Well, somebody else wants to help you," Jeremy briefly replied before he hung up.

Winnie pondered back and forth at his words. Perhaps it was Olivia who went to plead with Jeremy. She sighed and quickly got up to leave.

While she was rushing to Donghe Road, she received a text message from an anonymous number with an extortion demand: "If you want me to testify in favor of your uncle tomorrow, transfer 1 billion to this account first."

Jeffery made a move on her, choosing the time when her defense was weakest to extort her. Despite this, Winnie's lips curled into a cold smile, confident in Jeremy's detective connections.

The following day, at 9 am, en route to Lymington Court, the Ordelia Group's convoy of opulent vehicles made an imposing sight. Darcy, the cherished daughter, occupied the car of Mr. and Mrs. Ordelia. Gazing at the two cars trailing behind, she noted the presence of lawyers from a distinguished law firm in Trento City. They exuded an air of confidence, clearly approaching the impending case with a composed and serious demeanor, indicating that they did not underestimate the significance of this seemingly modest legal matter.

Darcy smirked maliciously, "Father, mother, are you both ready? Today, I will make sure Winnie ends up in jail without a doubt."

Mr. Ordelia lifted the corner of his mouth, his proud expression hard to conceal. "Jeffery's ashes are buried hidden in the villa. There is no chance for Winnie to overturn this case. Once she loses the case, I will show her the consequences of defying the Ordelia Group! There are ways to add more charges to her."

Just the thought of that day in the hospital when she shed a few tears while complaining to Mr. L, but he vaguely stated that Winnie was only anxious about that bastard, and she shouldn't pursue it anymore, made her grind her teeth in anger. Darcy was determined to make Mr. L witness Winnie's defeat in court.
