Chapter 790 Divorce Him

"Lawrence, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?" Winnie answered the phone, a look of surprise flashing across her face.

Lawrence's lips pressed tightly together. "I bought you some ointment for your injury. Bryan said it's the best and works quickly. The pain on your face should go away in a day or two."

Winnie's delicate brows furrowed, but she quickly understood. It was probably the two kids who saw her swollen face and told Lawrence.

Her eyes dimmed slightly, and her tone was a bit unnatural. "I already applied some medicine myself. It doesn't hurt anymore."

"Unless it's a special medicine, it wouldn't work that fast. Your medicine isn't as good as mine. Come out, and I'll help you apply it." Lawrence's tone was insistent.

Winnie felt a headache coming on, remembering that the slap was ultimately because of him. "You're not a doctor. How do you know my medicine isn't as good as yours? Is everything you buy the best? Lawrence, please, stop bothering me. Every time I get involved with you, nothing good happens."

"I'm sorry, Winnie. Did Rock hit you because he found out about that night in the bathroom?" Lawrence's voice carried a deep, cold tone, filled with pain.

Winnie was stunned. She thought he only knew she was injured. She didn't expect him to know that Rock had hit her.

Her thoughts were in disarray, not wanting to complicate things, especially knowing his cold temperament. "Don't guess wildly. It's not because of you."

"Winnie, stop lying to me." Lawrence's voice was gentle, but his eyes were icy. "I went to the Blanchet Group to find you yesterday. Lysander said you didn't go to work. Did he hit you the night before, and that's why you're hiding?"

He grew more and more furious, his long fingers clenching. "That bastard Rock, I won't let him get away with this. I'm going to kill him right now."

"Lawrence, are you crazy?" Winnie said in fear. With his temper, he might go and fight Rock. Given his current down-and-out status, if he hit Rock, he'd go to jail.

"Don't go!" she shouted.

"Winnie, I'm not crazy. I just feel like a useless person. You got hit, and I can't tolerate Rock. I left the medicine at your door. Remember to take it."

His tall figure bent down, carefully placing the ointment by the door, then turned and slammed the car door shut.

Winnie anxiously ran to the window and saw his side profile, looking like he was really going to take action.

She quickly ran downstairs and blocked the car that had moved a few feet. "Don't go. I have come down, okay?"

Lawrence braked suddenly, luckily not pressing the gas too hard.

The high beams flashed, almost illuminating Winnie's slender figure completely.

She had come out in such a hurry that she was only wearing a nightgown without a coat. The high swelling on her right cheek was clearly visible under the light. Lawrence's eyes fixed on it, his heart aching almost to the point of breaking.

He quickly got out of the car, took off his coat, and wrapped her in it, pulling her into his arms. His gaze was murderous. "Rock dared to hit you like this. Bastard."

Winnie met his bloodshot eyes.

She lowered her head, her brows furrowing, her voice trembling with cold. "Lawrence, don't go looking for him."

He ignored her completely.

She had no choice but to plead urgently, "It's not entirely his fault. Don't you understand? Any man would be unable to tolerate his wife being in the bathroom with another man like that."

"I was drugged at the time." Lawrence's voice was cold, his eyes deep as he recalled that scene.

Suppressing his deep emotions, he gently lifted her chin, feeling guilty. "It's all my fault, Winnie. If I hadn't been drugged, you wouldn't have had to save me like that. It's my fault. You must be in a lot of pain, right?"

His calloused fingers gently touched her swollen cheek.

Winnie's skin, comforted by his touch, grew warm and flushed. Her heart trembled, almost bringing her to tears, but she reminded herself not to fall for Lawrence's tricks. She turned her head away coldly.

Lawrence slapped his own face hard.

Winnie looked at his quickly reddening left cheek and the split corner of his lip in shock. "What are you doing?"

Lawrence's gaze was cold. He took her small hand and placed it on his face. "Now I'm just like you. I'm feeling your pain. Winnie, I'll do anything to make you feel better."

Winnie was speechless, looking at his deeply affectionate eyes. She shrank back two steps.

Lawrence wouldn't allow it. He took the opportunity to grab her slender waist, pulling her completely into his arms.

Winnie, already weak, was drenched in cold sweat from the tension, unable to move as she lay against his chest.

The cold wind blew against her sweaty back, lifting her silk nightgown.

Lawrence's large hand pressed down gently on her leg, sighing deeply. "Winnie, you should divorce Rock. He doesn't deserve you! Daring to hurt you, I won't let this go."

Wrapped in his warm body, Winnie was momentarily dazed.

But she quickly came to her senses, biting her lip in frustration, pushing him away. "I don't need you to interfere with my decisions. Let go of me. If Elliott and Lena see us, I won't be able to explain. If Rock hears about this, aren't you afraid he'll hit me again?"

"He wouldn't dare!" Lawrence's voice was angry.

But hearing her words, his heart tightened, and he gently let her go.

Although he wanted to hold her like this, take her back to his place, and take care of her from now on, it wasn't the right time.

She hadn't divorced Rock yet. Getting close to her now would only bring her more trouble.

"Divorce him, Winnie. Your reputation won't be controlled by him, and he won't have an excuse to hurt you anymore." Lawrence's voice was hoarse again.

Winnie looked up at his handsome face, deliberately reminding him coldly, "Lawrence, even if I divorce Rock one day, it won't be because of you. It has nothing to do with you. Stop overthinking."

Although her face was cold, Lawrence's deep gaze seemed to pierce through her. "Winnie, whether I'm overthinking, you know best."

Lawrence's long fingers pointed at her heart, a smile tugging at his thin lips. "Tell me, if it were another man that night, would you have saved him like that?"

His untimely question made Winnie unconsciously recall the bathroom incident, her face flushing again.

She glared at him angrily, quickly finding an excuse. "I just didn't want Sidney and Oscar to lose their father at such a young age."

"Thank you for admitting that I'm their dad. I understand your feelings, Winnie." His smile grew wider, his eyebrows raised mischievously as he looked at her, his eyes almost burning her.

Winnie couldn't stay any longer. She was trying to distance herself from him, but the more they talked, the more it sounded like flirting.
