Chapter 894 Lying
Bryan held Lawrence's phone and apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Anderson. Mr. Rodriguez had to leave for a business trip to AquaVista early this morning. It was pretty sudden, and he didn't have time to tell you himself. So... he might be gone for a while."
"What?" Winnie was completely taken aback.
"AquaVista? When did he say he was going on a business trip?" That far away, and he just left this morning without a word!
Winnie couldn't accept it. She furrowed her brows and stood up abruptly. "I haven't heard of any recent collaborations between the Rodriguez Group and AquaVista. What is Lawrence up to?"
Her tone was confused yet sharp.
What was he up to?
This was beyond what Bryan could answer.
Winnie's call came much earlier than Lawrence had anticipated.
Bryan, still unprepared, stammered, "It's... It's something important."
"What is it?" Winnie pressed on.
Bryan was at a loss. Winnie wasn't someone who could be easily fooled.
And Lawrence had indeed left too abruptly. The matter with Ishara had to be kept strictly confidential from Winnie.
"Actually, Mr. Rodriguez didn't give me the details, but it must be something significant related to the Rodriguez Group! Mr. Rodriguez probably didn't want you to worry. He always handles work on his own..."
"Cut the crap!" Winnie snapped.
Bryan's smile froze.
"He even left his phone with you?" Winnie stared at Lawrence's number on the screen. "What does that mean?"
Bryan felt like his throat was blocked by a stone. "Mr. Rodriguez gave me his private phone so you could reach me anytime. If you need anything, Mr. Martin, Mr. DeRoss, and I will take care of you and the kids."
Winnie's heartbeat paused for a moment, feeling that something was definitely off.
How long was he going to be gone? Was this some kind of entrustment?
Her emotions were instinctively tied to Lawrence, making her anxious and uneasy.
Bryan, this sly guy, was a strict subordinate trained by Lawrence. If Lawrence didn't want him to disclose something, he wouldn't say a word!
Winnie didn't want to waste time with him.
She furrowed her brows, feeling uneasy. Lawrence had just disappeared without a word. Maybe he had said something to the kids?
She needed to go home immediately to handle this.
After hanging up, Winnie returned to the hospital room where Olivia was packing.
Winnie held her phone, her brows tightly knit. "Olivia, I'll have the nurse take you back to Dazzling Estate. I have an urgent matter to attend to at the Rodriguez Villa."
"Winnie, did something happen?"
"Yes, it's about Lawrence."
"Then go handle it. I'll head back to Dazzling Estate to see Mia."
"Take care and don't rush back to work at the Blanchet Group."
"I know. You should also stay calm... Actually, you know, you seem really worried about Lawrence. It's a natural reaction. Maybe you haven't realized how much you care about him."
Winnie was at a loss for words.
Of course, Lawrence suddenly leaving for AquaVista was a big deal. Even if they were just business allies, they were currently working together against Rock. He suddenly left, and she needed to find out why.
It was really strange.
Lawrence wasn't impulsive. As someone at the top of the pyramid, every decision he made, though seemingly easy, was actually well thought out to ensure everything was foolproof.
But recently, some of Lawrence's actions made her feel like he was hiding something.
Doing some secretive things behind her back.
Yet, on the surface, he remained calm and composed...
Winnie sighed quietly and drove straight to the Rodriguez Villa.
The Rodriguez Villa was peaceful in the early morning. Sidney and Oscar had somehow come over and were chasing butterflies with Leah in the yard. The scene was beautiful, filled with the laughter of an ordinary family.
Winnie was stunned. How did these two little guys end up here?
And Lawrence's so-called business trip to AquaVista, why was the Rodriguez family so unfazed?
"Mrs. Rodriguez!" Winnie closed the car door and walked briskly.
Sidney, who was not good at lying, heard Winnie's gentle voice and immediately glanced at Oscar.
Oscar hesitated for a moment, signaling Sidney not to be nervous.
They had been brought over by Ray early in the morning. Lawrence had rushed to AquaVista to find Ishara, which could take days or even months, as the situation in AquaVista was completely unknown!
With Lawrence out of the country, Ray was on high alert because he was worried that Rock and the Peterson family might target Winnie again.
Lawrence must have arranged security measures before leaving.
Sidney didn't understand any of this.
He knew only that Lawrence had suddenly gone on a business trip to a faraway country and sent him and Oscar to the Rodriguez Villa.
Sidney ran over to Winnie, jokingly saying, "Mommy, look how worried Daddy is about you. He went on a business trip and insisted on bringing Oscar and me here, saying you're too busy to take care of us. It's hilarious. He was so bad to us before and didn't care about us, but you took care of us just fine."
Winnie patted Sidney's head and asked, "Did Lawrence tell you where he was going?"
"On a business trip!"
Winnie gave up on Sidney and called Oscar over, speaking seriously, "Sidney doesn't understand, but Oscar, you're a good listener. I heard you went to see Lawrence last night and stayed at his company all night. Did he tell you what was going on with the Rodriguez Group that required him to leave suddenly? How long will he be gone?"
Oscar knew Winnie was hard to deal with.
He clenched his small fists, nervous but prepared. "Mommy, the Rodriguez Group recently made a comeback with aerospace technology, right? Actually, a big satellite launch company in AquaVista is interested in Daddy's new technology and is willing to invest heavily in his research. Daddy didn't want to miss this opportunity to bring the Rodriguez Group back to the top globally. So he rushed to AquaVista to discuss the collaboration."
Winnie thought for a moment, then smirked and suddenly turned to Ray. "Did you know about this?"
"Y-yes!"
She continued to smirk. "So I'm the only one who didn't know? How come I had never heard about such a big collaboration? And he was in such a hurry, leaving without telling me anything?"
Winnie was too sharp.
Ray's eyes flickered. Lawrence had left him to lie and deal with Winnie.
After thinking for a while, he sarcastically said, "Well, look at your current relationship with Lawrence. You refuse to reconcile with him. How could he share company secrets with you in advance?"
