Chapter 177 Divorce

Alan shrugged carelessly, "I never said I was a good person, but I didn't intend to make you and your uncle end up like this."

Winnie found it laughable.

"I heard you were spoiled since childhood. What does Lawrence R have? He has nothing, so why are you shamelessly snatching his possessions?"

"Do you understand anything about family feuds? I also have a lot of pressure. In business, you know, is all about seizing opportunities. Don't judge my brother by his difficult childhood. He's better than me in every aspect. It's not enjoyable."

Winnie nodded fiercely, "So you're just an envious and malicious. He won't be defeated easily by you."

"Is that so? Well, he's already retreated in defeat." Alan nonchalantly stood up and extended his hand. "In any case, we've had a pleasant cooperation."

Winnie's anger flared up, causing her stomach to ache as she walked away, her demeanor cold.
-
Inside Perugia City Impression Cafe, Lawrence R stared at the "documents" in front of him, his strikingly handsome face lost in thought.

He glanced at his watch.

Luke noticed and immediately made a phone call. When he returned from the call, Luke's expression was somewhat odd.

Lawrence R raised his eyes, "Speak."

"Winnie just met with Alan... She'll be here soon."

Tap. The pen lightly dropped onto the documents, and Lawrence R froze for a moment, then smiled.

Throwing the "documents" to the lawyer next to him, there was no hesitation on his face.

Darcy sat in the nearby empty seat, closely observing every shift in the man's expression. A faint smile playing at the corner of her lips.

Suddenly, the sound of someone panting could be heard at the door.

Darcy turned her head and was the first to notice Winnie had arrived.

When Winnie turned her head, her gaze landed on Lawrence R sitting in the inner booth. He was dressed in a sharp black suit, looking both handsome and pale. He had lost weight and seemed a bit unhealthy, but compared to a week ago, he had improved significantly.

A flicker of emotion appeared in Winnie's eyes.

She quickly walked over, but her peripheral vision caught a sight that shocked her—Darcy was sitting in a wheelchair near the door.

Why is she here too?

Have they been inseparable these past few days?

Seeing Winnie's anxious gaze, Darcy responded with a look, confirming that yes, she had been with Mr. L all along.

A deep smirk appeared on her lips as Winnie passed by. Darcy whispered cryptically, "Winnie, take a good look and cherish the last moments with him!"

What does she mean?

Winnie froze, her brows furrowing deeply.

However, she didn't have time to think too much as she saw the man's gaze, which had been fixed on the window, returning to her.

Quickly, Winnie walked towards him, her heart filled with anticipation, her heartbeat racing. She took a deep breath and, with a faint pinkish hue on her pale lips, looked at him, "L, what kind of document do you want me to sign?"

"A divorce agreement," Lawrence R stated succinctly.

Winnie froze, as if time itself had come to a standstill.

Her slender fingers, which had been placed on the table, momentarily lost their strength, then tightened, before finally trembling as she withdrew them under the table.

Her face turned as white as a sheet, and her backward step knocked over the chair behind her.

"Miss Anderson, please calm down. This is a divorce agreement. You can go through the contents now. Mr. L's time is valuable— I can only give you five minutes!" The lawyer on the side quickly handed over the divorce agreement.

Winnie stared at those few sheets of paper. It felt as if the sharp edges of the paper were piercing her heart, causing it to bleed, a sharp pain engulfing her.

The world in front of her turned black, so black that she couldn't see his handsome face anymore.

Winnie slowly covered her chest, sitting down on the chair. She laughed bitterly and shook her head, "No, I don't agree to the divorce."

"Why do you refuse to divorce?"

Lawrence R’s tone was icy, his deep voice void of any compassion.

Winnie carefully observed him and realized that he had changed since he returned. He was no longer like the day his mother had an accident—hysterical and full of anger.

He no longer displayed his vulnerability when he was ill.

Now, he resembled a ruthless statue, invincible.

He had reverted to the formidable Lawrence R.

In his eyes, there was no trace of emotion she could decipher.

Leaning back in his chair, the man didn't bother hiding his disgust as he sneered, "A fake marriage on paper, a sham. Nothing is real, just like you, utterly fake."

Winnie's heart skipped a beat at his demeaning words.

Winnie's face turned pale. She trembled and pleaded, "L, please don't say that. I truly love you..."

"Sign the papers." He had no intention of wasting any more words with her.

His expressionless face concealed a deep and cold resentment.

Winnie saw it all, the extreme disgust and hatred he held towards her
.
The lawyer stated, "Miss Anderson, originally the marriage agreement promised you compensation for having a child after one year, but now Mr. L refuses. You'll be left with nothing."

"I don't want your money." Winnie couldn't argue. The irony of the four billion dollars between them was something they couldn't ignore.

"Of course," Lawrence R smiled suavely, "after all, you've already received a fair share from Alan. Are you still meeting him today?"

Winnie's gaze turned pale. "I didn't—I have no idea why Alan asked to meet me privately. I absolutely haven't seen him..."

"It doesn't matter. Who you choose to be with in the future has nothing to do with me."

He uttered these harsh words lightly, and they weren’t empty threats.

To what extent must a man's heart be wounded to suddenly become so mercilessly cold?

Winnie wished she could tear her heart out and show him that she truly hadn't done anything.

Why didn't he believe her?

Her tears fell, and she couldn't wipe away the pain. Each drop fell onto the table, onto the divorce agreement.

In a daze, she reached for the documents. She didn't want to confront him like this anymore; it was too unbearable, tearing her apart.

"Do you want me to sign it that badly?" She asked with a tearful smile.

Lawrence R's unwavering eyes twitched slightly.

Winnie nodded blankly and forced a smile. "Fine, I agree to the divorce."

At that moment, something shattered in Lawrence R's heart.

He coldly watched the shards scatter, continuously piercing his heart, reminding him how venomous and detestable this woman was.

Winnie took the pen, her hand trembling, writing as if a bug crawled across the paper.
She quickly closed the pages and handed it back to the opposing lawyer, her gaze empty as she watched him take the documents.

Lawrence R stood up, his thin lips spitting out bone-chilling words. "Make arrangements to get rid of the child."

Boom – A loud thunderclap echoed, as if splitting through from head to toe. Every single one of her 206 bones seemed to ache.

In disbelief, she looked up, staring at his cold profile. "Lawrence R, no... no, you can't be so heartless. It's your child!"

"A bastard that you schemed to have; I don't want it." The man uttered those icy, heartless words.

Winnie cried and laughed at the same time.

Once, he looked at baby clothes, gently measuring them in his hand, guessing how big the child would be when born. Once, he was so domineering and doting towards this unborn child.

Where had all that love and tenderness gone? Why had they disappeared? Who was at fault?
