Chapter 231 Sent to a Sanatorium
Lawrence R didn't understand medicine fully, but considering how she had bitten and stabbed him earlier, and how she had torn Darcy’s clothes to shreds like this, maybe she was truly disturbed.
He had indeed heard of cases where depressed mothers killed their children and then themselves.
The children within her womb, were now his only source of solace, and he desperately wanted them to be born and to be raised well by him.
These two little lives couldn't be put in danger. They were also his only connection to this damned woman.
"If she is truly depressed, how should we treat her without affecting the baby's health?" Lawrence questioned.
"I suggest isolating her. Currently, she is harming innocent people everywhere. This apartment is in the city center, and if she were to run outside, Mr. L, your reputation would be affected. People will talk about you..." Darcy continued confidently.
“Illegal confinement. Since the goal is for her to give birth to the child, Rock can no longer interfere, but he will eventually be released." Darcy pinpointed this crucial point.
Lawrence R's icy gaze indicated that keeping Winnie here was not a long-term solution.
Once Rock was released, he would definitely come looking for her. Lawrence R would not allow that man to harass her again!
There was also the intention to hide her.
The man frowned, "Whether she's sick or not, it's best to have a professional Western doctor make the diagnosis. Let Dr. Allen from the villa come over." Lawrence R said.
Darcy's eyes darkened. Mr. L is especially cautious with that despicable person!
She nodded slightly, "I'll make a phone call."
Dr. Allen from the villa was brought in by Lawrence R to examine Winnie. Darcy personally welcomed Dr. Allen at the door, giving him a meaningful glance.
In this household, Darcy was clearly the mistress now. Winnie was a thing of the past. Dr. Allen wasn’t a fool; he knew whom to listen to and when.
In the upstairs bedroom, Winnie didn't understand why Lawrence R had brought a doctor. Anxiously, she exclaimed,
"What are you doing again? I'm not sick, so don't think about touching my child!"
She gasped for breath, appearing paranoid.
Unbeknownst to her, Lawrence R was even more worried when he saw this.
Dr. Allen restrained the woman gently and reluctantly completed the diagnosis.
Frowning, Lawrence R asked him, "How is she? Is she suffering from depression?"
Dr. Allen glanced discreetly at Darcy, then lowered his head, and nodded.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Rodriguez. Miss Anderson was already hormonally imbalanced due to pregnancy, and the recent stress has caused her to have a breakdown. She needs proper care."
"What are you talking about?" Winnie raised her head in disbelief. "How can I be depressed? I'm just angered by them."
Darcy sighed. "Mr. L, it seems necessary to send Miss Anderson to a private mental health clinic for concentrated treatment, to prevent her from hurting herself and the child."
Lawrence R contemplated; his gaze fixed on Winnie.
Winnie widened her eyes and finally understood what Darcy was planning.
From the moment she became agitated upstairs earlier, Darcy had been plotting to send her to a psychiatric hospital!
She abruptly stood up, holding her stomach, and looked at Lawrence R's silent expression. Her heart sank even further as she shook her head in defense.
"I can't be depressed. I'm a doctor myself, and I know my own condition!"
"People suffering from depression don't realize it themselves. Look at your behavior, biting, hurting, and throwing tantrums. It's completely different from before." Came Darcy’s response.
"That's because you all forced me!" Winnie coldly laughed as she looked at the man.
"If you don't care about me and don't provide for the child, would I be so angry? Lawrence R, now you want to send me to a mental hospital again?"
He lowered his gaze. "It's not a psychiatric hospital. It's a private institution for healing." Lawrence continued.
"The sanatorium, Darcy suggested is a recuperation resort, and you will come out once you recover from the illness."
He must ensure that the children are born safely and not disturbed by her, Lawrence thought.
Winnie was truly going crazy; she pointed at Darcy with anger,
"Why do you keep being deceived by this woman? You believe everything she says, even when she farts! I am not sick at all, and this doctor is also in cahoots with her, intentionally making false diagnoses!” Winnie continued to defend.
“Lawrence R, I implore you to open your eyes; this woman harmed your mother and now wants to harm your child. Do you know that?” Winnie was clearly worked up as she spoke.
“Will she take good care of the child? Hah, do you remember how she schemed to cause me to miscarry a few months ago?"
Lawrence R's gaze froze instantly. As though recalling the kidnapping Darcy had orchestrated...
Darcy quickly defended herself with a bitter smile,
"Miss Anderson, there is no need to dwell on the past. At that time, I was blinded by jealousy. But now, Mr. L and I are engaged. You and the child cannot threaten me. Why would I go to such lengths?”
“To be honest, I am not as heartless as you think. You relentlessly want to prevent our success. You want to ruin both our lives, greatly hurting Mr. L's heart."
Darcy seemed to explain herself flawlessly, but she was actually reminding Lawrence R.
Sure enough, Lawrence R's suspicious gaze turned towards Winnie. Prenatal depression might truly cause harm to the children, he thought.
"No need to say any more!" the man furrowed his brows, his words were filled with frustration as he spoke.
"The family doctor was hired by me, and is not Darcy's person. Why would he falsely accuse you of being ill? Winnie, if you are sick, you must seek treatment. If you don't want to see me, that's fine.”
Lawrence R continued with a heavy heart, “Go to the sanatorium, cooperate with the treatment, and once you give birth to the child, you can come out."
"I won't go. Do you know what kind of person your Darcy truly is?" Winnie's heart was on the verge of desperation, but this man simply refused to believe her.
Winnie collapsed onto the ground, tears streaming down her face. "Lawrence R, if you don't want me, if you are engaged to Darcy, I will make way for you. I bless you! Don't be manipulated by her; let me go! I truly have no illness, I promise I won't hurt anyone anymore, please let me go..." Winnie made a last plea towards Lawrence.
"Darcy, what did I do to you in my past life? Why are you treating me like this! I won't let you succeed!"
In the midst of her sorrowful crying, the frail struggling woman was carefully lifted by two bodyguards and taken away.
The ambulance Lawrence R called was already waiting downstairs. Winnie was quickly placed into the vehicle.
The sanatorium Lawrence R arranged was located in the middle of a mountain, facing the sea to the west, serene and quiet, with excellent facilities.
Before they had arrived, all other patients had been cleared out. As Lawrence R wanted to ensure Winnie would not be disturbed and could receive proper treatment.
Winnie was personally held by him and placed in the hospital room. She struggled to open the door, her eyes red and pleading for him to let her out.
Darcy softly commented from the side, "It seems like her illness is really severe, Mr. L. The doctors here just said she is impulsive. Luckily, you brought her here in time."
The doctor from the sanatorium quickly added, "Mr. Rodriguez, every pregnant woman with prenatal depression is like this. They are unwilling to be confined. Please be understanding. She is now receiving treatment..."
"When things get better, you can go out immediately," Lawrence said, his gaze cold and intense as he watched her fragile weeping form. He slightly clenched his fists.
The doctor had just said that if her depression was not properly controlled, it could potentially affect the child through the umbilical cord and result in autism.
Since he wanted these two children, they had to be healthy, even if it meant she had to suffer a bit. He took a deep breath, turned around, and decisively left the room.
"Lawrence R!" Winnie kept pounding on the door, staring at the back of his head, unable to understand how he could be so heartless.
In that moment, Darcy turned around, clearly wearing a strange smile.
