Chapter 867 The Unusual Behavior of Father and Son
Oscar originally thought that since Ishara was carrying the child, Lawrence might not want it.
This was also why he had been afraid to tell the adults, fearing they wouldn't like the child.
Oscar had a simple heart; he just wanted to protect his sister.
Now he realized he couldn't do it alone and had to seek help from Lawrence.
Lawrence, despite his heavy heart, couldn't hide a trace of excitement as he told Oscar the truth, "Oscar, whether I reject this child or not, as long as I think of her as your mom's child, I will choose to let her be born safely."
"If you say she's your sister, then she's your sister. She will be a beautiful baby just like your mom. Maybe her being in Ishara's belly is a stain, but no one wanted this to happen. Life is innocent, and I don't want to kill her!"
That was Winnie's child, carrying Winnie's DNA.
Lawrence couldn't bear it. It didn't matter whose belly she was in; once born, he would raise her as his daughter.
As for whether Winnie could accept it...
Lawrence lowered his eyes, "The important thing is to have the child. If your mom can't accept it, then we'll keep it from her for now. This child has nothing to do with Ishara! I'm afraid your mom will regret it if she finds out the truth later. We can't do something that will make her regret it, don't you think?"
"I think so too!" Oscar got the answer he had hoped for, and his anxious heart finally settled.
Lawrence was reliable; he wasn't afraid of falling out with Winnie and abandoning this innocent child.
Oscar clenched his fist, "Thank you, Daddy."
Lawrence gave him a sharp look, "Since you chose to tell me everything tonight, Oscar, you must have tracked Ishara's whereabouts, right?"
"I know where she is!"
"Then what are we waiting for? There's no time to lose! Oscar, we must find Ishara immediately and control her, damn it!"
Lawrence picked up Oscar and hurried downstairs with a tense expression.
Downstairs, Winnie was just coming back with Sidney after setting off fireworks.
She looked up and saw Lawrence and Oscar's gloomy faces. When Lawrence saw her, his handsome features turned pale.
What was going on?
Winnie felt his gaze on her, filled with unspoken words, heavy and seemingly pained.
Her smile disappeared, "Lawrence, what's wrong with you two?"
Lawrence's heart pounded, and his crimson eyes glanced at Winnie's flat belly.
His long fingers tightened.
He couldn't stay calm.
Oscar, in his arms, saw his lips move uncontrollably and immediately pressed his small hand on Lawrence's broad shoulder, forcing a smile and turning to Winnie, "Bad Daddy's company has some issues, and he's not happy."
"What happened to the Rodriguez Group?" Winnie took a step forward, her frown slightly easing.
So it was just a company issue!
But why did he look at her with such a pained expression?
It made her feel like something irreversible had happened.
"Huh?" Winnie saw Lawrence's tense profile and questioned again.
"Nothing! The new product launch encountered some problems. I... I'm taking Oscar to handle it. By the way, we might not come back tonight. You and Sidney don't need to worry," Lawrence said coldly, hurriedly taking Oscar downstairs.
"But why take Oscar to the company in the middle of the night for a product issue? He's so young and doesn't understand." Winnie was puzzled. What were this father and son secretly exchanging glances about?
"Mommy! Well, handling this issue requires hacking into some systems, and Bad Daddy thinks I might be able to help. Plus, I want to see the Rodriguez Group!" Oscar quickly lied to Winnie.
Sidney ran over excitedly, "Then I want to see the Rodriguez Group too!"
"You're not going!" Oscar glanced at Lawrence, pursing his lips, his eyes deep.
"But I want to. Daddy, I want to go too."
"Sidney! Stay home!" Lawrence couldn't help but raise his voice at Sidney.
He looked at Winnie, at his two sons, his mind filled with the thought of the little daughter taken away.
The complex emotions of sorrow and bitterness overwhelmed him.
His throat moved, and under Winnie's surprised gaze, he gently explained again, "I wasn't harsh on him, Winnie. You take Sidney to bed early. I'll take care of Oscar tonight; we're going out."
He picked up Oscar with one arm and turned to leave.
"Lawrence..." Winnie couldn't stop Lawrence, her mind full of doubts. Did it really have to be handled tonight?
She always felt like they were hiding something from her.
Lawrence's expression didn't look like he was just handling company matters.
The car sped away from the small building, its speed alarming.
Even Sidney felt something was off, "Why is Lawrence driving so fast? Mommy, should we follow them?"
Winnie looked at the time; it was almost midnight.
She glanced at Sidney, who was rubbing his eyes, and finally shook her head. "Following them will only delay him. Whatever it is, he seems very anxious. Forget it, I'll ask your grandpa about the Rodriguez Group tomorrow to see if there's really something going on."
"Okay, that sounds good." Oscar immediately spoke up for Lawrence, "I just didn't want you to think Lawrence was going out to play in the middle of the night."
Winnie was speechless, "I wouldn't think he's taking Oscar out to play."
"Right! Mommy, let's go to bed!"
Winnie held Sidney's hand and went upstairs under the servant's guidance, but she kept glancing back outside.
She had a nagging feeling of unease, a sense of impending doom.
The car sped down the road, and Lawrence made a call to Jeremy and Ray, asking them to gather people!
Oscar opened his laptop, staring intently at the tracking red dot, "Ishara has been in a small apartment in the north of the city since yesterday. She hasn't moved. I guess Rock locked her up after something happened."
"He's afraid Ishara will go to the Blanchet Group, and you and Mommy will find her and take revenge, so he captured her! Rock must still want to control the child in Ishara's belly!"
Lawrence's coldness spread. Since Ishara and Rock conspired, Rock had planned this long ago.
A child of his would be Rock's trump card.
He couldn't let Lawrence hold his lifeline, nor could he let the fetus be in danger!
"Daddy, slow down!" Oscar felt Lawrence was on the verge of losing it, the car flying down the road. He was afraid of a traffic accident, "The red dot hasn't moved; Ishara should still be in that apartment."
"Oscar, you told me too late. I'm afraid of any accidents!" Lawrence feared any changes.
Once Rock knew he was aware of the child's existence, he could put a knife to Ishara's belly at any time to threaten him.
Oscar lowered his head, realizing it was his fault for trying to handle this alone earlier.
"Daddy, it'll be okay. We'll capture Ishara and in two months, have her undergo a C-section to get my sister back."
It was very troublesome.
Lawrence pounded the steering wheel in anguish.
The car quickly arrived at the apartment where Ishara was.
