Chapter 206 Deciding to Forgive Her

Even though she loved him, she should have sought her parents' permission before donating, considering that they were the ones who gave her body.

"You didn't witness the kidney donation surgery, did you?" Winnie asked him.

Lawrence R shook his head.

Winnie sneered inwardly and tactfully suggested, "To better understand your mother's condition, I suggest you revisit the entire process from her admission for renal failure to the transplant surgery."

"Are you suspecting Darcy, then?" Lawrence R's gaze was uncertain.

Winnie answered him, "If you believe that I went to save my mother that night, then someone must have caused her renal failure!"

The man pinched his forehead. There was some truth in what she said.

His mother wouldn't have developed renal failure for no reason; there had to be a cause. If it wasn't Winnie, then it might be related to Darcy.

But he couldn't investigate it. If he did, it would imply suspicion towards Darcy. She did so much for him, and if it had nothing to do with her, she would be deeply hurt.

Lawrence R pondered for a few seconds and instructed the maid, "Go to the front yard and wake up Miss Ordelia. I have something to discuss with her and Miss Anderson face-to-face."

Winnie heard his words and looked up at him with astonishment.

Does he believe her now?

Otherwise, he wouldn't want to confront Darcy. Although he didn't mention re-investigating the surgery, this already surprised Winnie!

Her heart thumped fiercely, and her foolish hopes resurfaced.

Having just finished speaking with the hospital doctor, Darcy received a call from the trustworthy maid at the villa.

"Winnie Anderson, something's not right. Mr. L took Winnie early in the morning and went to the separate residence to visit Madam Rodriguez. And I don't know what they discussed inside, but Mr. L suddenly asked me to wake you up, saying he has something to ask you in person! He didn't know you weren't in your room. What should I tell him?"

Darcy could hardly stand and took a step back.

Barbara furrowed her brow tightly. "It must be that wretched Winnie's influence over Mr. L. Mr. L might even suspect something about the kidnapping incident!"
Darcy pursed her lips, and her face turned pale.

This was all Jeremy's doing. Once Mr. L returned, he softened his heart towards Winnie and actually agreed to take her to meet Madam Rodriguez.

Who knows, Winnie might have told the truth again, and this time, Mr. L might actually believe her!

She frowned deeply and said, "You're right about it being time to remove the stitches. I'm at the hospital right now, but I'll be back soon."

The maid hung up the phone.

However, Darcy was not calm. If she went back now, Mr. L would confront her and Winnie. Even though she had confidence in her ability to make up excuses, Winnie was not someone to be trifled with, and Mr. L was even more shrewd.

If he brought up the idea of re-investigating the kidney surgery, that would be troublesome.

She had everything under control now, but she was still afraid of making a fatal mistake.

Damn it, she needed to come up with something to divert Mr. L's attention, to cover up any suspicions about this matter...

She immediately took out her phone and angrily dialed a number. "Jeffery, I asked you to check the videos of Winnie and Rock. Why haven't you found anything yet?"

"I don't have any news about Winnie Anderson over here..."

Jeffery was hesitant as he spoke, but suddenly, Darcy's phone made a beep, indicating a new email.

Curiously, she opened it and saw the contents of the compressed file, immediately stunned.

Following that, she quickly checked the sender's name, which was anonymous.

Who could this be?

Who was so timely in helping her? Darcy squinted her eyes, pondered for a moment, and suddenly a meaningful smile appeared on her face.

Truly, it was heaven assisting her. She sat in the car, no longer panic-stricken, and a wicked smile played at the corners of her mouth. She narrowed her eyes and instructed Barbara, "Contact the media journalists and the more, the better!"

Winnie, you still haven't given up on exposing me? This time, you have no way out.

"Mr. L, Miss Ordelia went to the hospital this morning to have her stitches removed. She said she'll be back soon."

Lawrence R frowned, "Why didn't she tell me about removing the stitches? She went alone?"

"...I'm not quite sure about that," the maid replied fearfully.

Winnie checked the time. It was only a little past seven. Why would Darcy go to the hospital so early? There must be another reason.

The hospital where the stitches were removed was the same one where the surgery was performed. Did Lawrence R revisit the kidnapping incident after going out last night?

It wasn't difficult for Winnie to guess that Darcy was panicking.

"You wait outside for me. I have something to discuss with Mother," the man's deep gaze looked at her.

Winnie nodded and left the stand-alone building.

In the hospital room, the man, as elegant as jade, stood in front of his mother's bed. His brow furrowed, and he sighed, "Mother, do you believe Winnie didn't harm you?"

He held her hand, and a touch of pain appeared in his eyes. "To be honest, if I forgive her, I am betraying you. But if I don't forgive her, my heart feels empty. What do you think we should do?"

He asked the question, yet it seemed he already had an answer in his heart.

"Damn it, I still want this woman. If she didn't harm you and didn't do anything wrong...
"Is it none of my business to continue being with her?" He forced a smile, clenched his fist, and felt guilty in his heart, but still walked out, betraying his conscience.

When he came out and saw her delicate and weak figure, his lips involuntarily curved into a smile.

Did that heavy hatred in his heart finally dissipate bit by bit?

"Let's go." He approached her and unexpectedly held her hand.

Winnie hesitated, her heart pounding, and her hand couldn't help trembling in his palm.

The man sensed her stiffness all over and remained silent. He gently held her hand and slowly walked back to the front yard along the path.

Winnie wanted to pinch herself. Was she dreaming? He held her hand, could it be... he wanted to forgive her?

His gentle attitude truly made her heart flutter, filled with nervousness and unease.

The two returned to the villa's hall, and Lawrence R instructed the maid to prepare breakfast.

He also called the doctor to check her temperature, and the doctor gave her medicine, even personally placing it on her forehead to cool her down.

Though he remained silent, his gaze was no longer as cold and disgusted.

Winnie stared blankly at him without blinking, hoping that time would freeze in this moment.

The maid brought the breakfast, and when she saw Winnie standing dazed like a silly goose, a smirk appeared on the corners of his mouth. "Is today the first time I look so handsome? Don't they say I didn't have dinner last night? Hurry up and eat."

Winnie blushed, lowered her head, and obediently ate the food. She was indeed hungry.

However, the man didn't eat. He looked at her with a hint of depth, lost in his thoughts. He picked up the spoon, stirred the porridge absentmindedly, and asked her with lowered eyes, "Why didn't you tell me about the incident where you secretly rushed to Perugia City to save Mr. Lancelot? How come you only went to the police station to meet me in the morning, causing me to misunderstand? What did you do during that time?"

Winnie was taken aback. He knew?

Thinking back, it might have been that day at the hospital when Mr. Lancelot unintentionally revealed it.

She pursed her lips, suppressed a tinge of bitterness in her heart, and cautiously looked at his handsome face. "At that time, my uncle and I were like two peas in a pod, and I had to protect my uncle. If you had known that he was responsible for harming the Kingdom Estates, you wouldn't have let him off either..."

"Just for this reason?" Lawrence R clearly wasn't satisfied with the answer.

Winnie's face froze for a moment, then she shifted her gaze and said in a low voice, "I was also afraid that something might happen to you."

The man's thin lips stretched into a smile as he asked again, "What time did you revive Mr. Lancelot? Why did you wait until morning to go to the police station to meet me, causing me to misunderstand? What did you do in between?"

Winnie's spoon accidentally hit the edge of the bowl.

He frowned at her panicked state. "What's wrong?"

Rock was drugged, and she couldn't let him know about saving him from being trapped in the hotel.

She lowered her head and suppressed her voice. "I didn't go anywhere. I stayed with Mr. Lancelot the whole time. I didn't leave the hospital until morning when he was out of danger and then went to see you."

Lawrence R furrowed his brow, but he did remember that her clothes were soaked that morning.
